President Trump responded to the Senate Republican´s inability to pass a skinny version of Obamacare´s repeal the only way he knows how: Twitter. (Tweet) Senate Republicans weren´t able to muster enough votes to pass their skinny repeal of Obamacare. Senators voted 49-51 shortly before 2:00 a.m. Friday morning. Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) cast a surprise "no" vote. He was joined by GOP Sens. Lisa Murkowski (Alaska), Susan Collins (Maine). The bill, titled the Health Care Freedom Act, would have repealed the individual insurance mandate. It would also have repealed the employer mandate for eight years.
Comments: Sadly, I totally expected McCain to put himself in the spotlight with this vote. His lack of empathy for America now (after 8 painful years of 0bama), shows that "if you have one foot in hell, might as well keep the two together". A little known fact is his silence in Washington over the drug cartels of Mexico taking large swathes of land in Arizona to become a no man´s land for Arizona law enforcement to stop. (Think open border.)
I´ve despised McCain since he was one of the Keating Five. Sadly, nothing he´s done since has changed my mind. I long ago concluded that only the almighty would get him out of the Senate, since the voters of Arizona wouldn´t.
Don´t expect the old ornery buzzard, McCain, to support President Trump. The vindictive senile senator will forever hate Trump for the comment the President made about him not being much of a war hero for getting captured. The Songbird McCain carries a grudge and doesn´t care about doing the right thing for the country and the people. I wrote the jackwagon old cuss off a long time ago.
I agree with all the posters here. The man has no shame. He is a traitor now and he was then. He managed to fake his "hero" persona all these years milking it to get the senate seat. He is a disgrace. He will never resign. He wants a hero´s funeral. Even from inside the coffin he will be spitting on the flag they will put him under. Oh, I am so mad right now. Arizona shame on you.
You know - just for grins, I´d like someone to do a comparison of John McCain´s recent trip to the hospital. Let´s do a side by side of the care and costs HE received and incurred, as to what one of us shlubbs on obamacare would have gotten. I would really like to know.
McCain will be dead within the next year and a half, and his final, enduring legacy will be that he voted to keep the yoke of Obamacare around America´s neck. And I´ve no doubt that he did it just to spite Trump. I hope he´s proud of himself.
He should not be voting on anything. The cancer and attendant clot that he had in his frontal lobe, the pressure it would have created on his brain, and the surgery to remove it and its margins, constituted a significant assault on his brain’s frontal lobe.
The frontal lobes are considered our emotional control center and home to our personality. There is no other part of the brain where lesions can cause such a wide variety of symptoms (Kolb & Wishaw, 1990). The frontal lobes are involved in motor function, problem solving, spontaneity, memory, language, initiation, judgement, impulse control, and social and sexual behavior.
Maybe the snarky Dems were right about him in 2004, he´s "lost his bearings."
We´ve watch the Democrats in total lock-step shove Obamacare down the Christmas Eve chimney, send their members to electoral death in election after election without breaking formation, and oppose everything Trump/Republican so completely it´s not even brought up any more.
And yet McCain seems to pin his vote on some demand that a resolution be "bipartisan," or as he famously puts it, reaching to our friends across the aisle.
He deserves his lumps and his worthless legacy, but truly it´s the GOP who have imploded.
As the video clips on social media often start, "You had one job..."
So, right after his "can´t we all get along for the good of the country" speech, McCain votes his grudge, and sticks it to the Donald who insulted him. Sweet revenge, for him. Obamacare for the rest of us. Senate health care plan for him. Obamacare for the rest of us.
The "to hell with the loud mouths on radio and television" portion of his speech necessarily and transparently includes those who listen, agree, and keep those loud mouths on the air. He´s talking about the rise of conservative talk radio and Fox News. He´s saying to hell with red state deplorables.
He pines for a return to the days when the Uniparty ran things (with the Republicans playing the submissive role) without the public knowing much about it, having no significant voice to complain too loudly, and certainly not having the ability to rise up, win offices, and actually impact the character and direction of the country. That´s for the ruling class, which let´s McCain come to their parties as their "good friend" and "esteemed colleague."
To borrow from a patriot of stronger stuff, crouch down and lick the hands which feed you, Sir John. May your chains rest lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were once our countryman.
This comes as no surprise. Three Republicans killed repeal. Very likely there were others, but their votes weren´t needed. The Republican Senate was very busy counting votes and covering their rears.
Now we are being told the Republicans are supposed to work with the Democrats. The Democrats under Obama refused to work with anyone, and marched lock step with Obama. They still are marching lock step today even though Obama is out of office.
If the Republicans work with the Democrats, they will have an even larger more expensive version of Obamacare. It will be a monstrosity.
Senator McCain did not believe one word of his return speech, which was written in waiting! John McCain got his revenge against President Trump and now he can move to his personal life as a complete failure as a legislator! Pity his wife Cindy, she bared the brunt of this ego manic!
Please John McCain exit stage right along with Flake and Sassa, Collins and Markowski. None have ever created a lasting job, they takers they are!
Trump has built, he has hired, he has met kings and queens and the laborer on the job.
And when his project was built jobs were replaced and maintained by other jobs. What say you of the noble government? I´ll have another on the way to the airport on your tax dollars!
I take back all the sympathy I expressed for McCain when I learned of his cancer and subsequent surgery. I take back any kindness I showed toward another fellow human being that being McCain. I just hope he goes away permanently and fast. I´m not a cold or indifferent person. I cry for strangers that are in need. For McCain, I cry not. I cry now for the people that will be hurt by his spiteful vote. Damn you to hell, McCain and I hope you arrive there soon.
McCain is a small man. If he had any integrity, he would resign from the senate because of his brain tumor. But he won´t because it is all about him and the limelight he craves as a "maverick". His supposed reason for not voting for the measure was because it didn´t go through the normal process with Democrat input. But what McCain´s little brain doesn´t seem to grasp is that Schumer and the Dems stated plainly that they would do nothing to replace Obamacare, so even if the process had been followed, Dems wouldn´t have participated. McCain can´t die soon enough for me. People of Arizona are fools. Time after time they have watched this person be a liberal in congress and then when it came to reelection he would pretend to be conservative. Yet, it fooled them every time. You deserve the high Obomacare premiums Arizona.
McSpite rides into town to do what he has always done, be a thorn in the side of the American people. He cost us millions when he crashed the planes he piloted during his US Navy days. He showed us the depth of his lack of integrity when he was caught up in the Keating Five criminality. He betrayed us when he joined the Gang of Eight when they were determined to push through amnesty. He is a bitter old contrarian whose primary motivation lies in his hatred of the President. He is jealous that someone outside the political process did what he could not do and that is to win the prize he so eagerly coveted.
Murkowski, Collins and McCain defied the will of the people. I just hope and pray that they get everything coming to them for this betrayal. Kick them to the curb and laugh when they whine about it.
Republicans are idiots for even trying to replace Obamacare. After it implodes and destroys health care in this country democrats will be forced to work with republicans on a replacement. The sad part is that while the fools in congress screw around with health care, millions of hard working people are getting hurt with high premiums and high deductibles. Got it.
John McCain´s no war hero, no maverick, he´s nothing. This man betrayed his country long ago when he broke under torture. He, like Obama, hates American and Americans. He hates Trump because Trump epitomizes everything he is not! Trump loves America and its people.
This day will be known as the "McCain Screwed America Day." He will pay for his sins very soon.
He went ´full RINO´ with this vote. It´s his legacy to be an opponent to Freedom in this great land. A man who went from fighting for freedom in Vietnam to being an opponent to same in his home country. I wouldn´t wish his punishment upon anyone.
McCain is a corrupt, back-stabbing, unprincipled self-promoter. He is neither a "war hero" nor a good man. Since God appears to be in the process of imposing a long-overdue term limit on him, I´ll let it go at that.
No wonder the American people are sick of D.C. Congress & their staffs do not have Obamacare, so they don´t care. All the ones who voted against repealing Obamacare should be required to have Obamacare along with their staff. That´s the only for congress to wake up, require them to have the same health care as the people who voted them in office. Put McCain in the VA with Obamacare.
Concerns are mounting over Russian military exercises planned for next month, which some fear could be used as cover for intervention in Belarus. The Zapad (´West´) exercise, which occurs every four years, will take place in Belarus and western Russia. Russian war games have previously preceded or provided cover for real military operations, including in Ukraine and Georgia, analysts said. While Russia has claimed around 13,000 troops will take part, the real number that will participate is believed to be much higher. (Video) Some experts have suggested all the personnel involved – military and civilian – could reach up to up 100,000,
(Video) - Washington - Chelsea Clinton took to Twitter in defense of a fellow first child, Barron Trump, after an article criticized the President´s youngest son´s casual fashion choices. "The youngest Trump doesn´t have any responsibilities as the president´s son, but the least he could do is dress the part when he steps out in public," entertainment reporter Ford Springer wrote in the Daily Caller. The story prompted widespread rebukes from both sides of the political aisle and the media, including a sharp statement from Clinton, who knows firsthand the spotlight of a White House childhood. (Tweet) "It's high time the media
Washington - Democrats have a warning for Donald Trump’s former chief strategist Steve Bannon: Don’t use your position at Breitbart to share classified and sensitive information you collected while at the White House. "Steve Bannon has an ongoing obligation to safeguard our nation’s secrets, and he does not gain some kind of extra Constitutional protection just because he is now returning to a position in the media,” said Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., the senior Democrat on the House Oversight Committee. Cummings said lawmakers closely watch people in such positions after they leave high level security positions.
Berlin - German police say they have seized thousands of tablets of the party drug ecstasy in the shape of Donald Trump´s head, a haul with an estimated street value of 39,000 euros ($45,900.) Police in Osnabrueck, in northwestern Germany, say they found the drugs while checking an Austrian-registered car on the A30 highway on Saturday. They say the people in the car, a 51-year-old man and his 17-year-old son, told officers they had been in the Netherlands to buy a vehicle but hadn´t succeeded so were returning home. Officers said they found about 5,000 of the orange, Trump-shaped ecstasy tablets along with a large,
Washington — President Trump on Tuesday will meet with Border Patrol officials in Arizona before attending a campaign-style rally, as he seeks to move past one of the most difficult stretches of his controversy-roiled presidency. Mr. Trump will survey border equipment in Yuma and meet with members of the military before heading to his rally in Phoenix. He may visit the border as well, (Snip) Last month, a judge ruled that Mr. Arpaio flouted a court order telling him to back down from detaining people his office suspected of being undocumented immigrants. United Nations - Two North Korean shipments to a Syrian government agency responsible for the country´s chemical weapons program were intercepted in the past six months, according to a confidential United Nations report on North Korea sanctions violations. The report by a panel of independent U.N. experts, which was submitted to the U.N. Security Council earlier this month and seen by Reuters on Monday, gave no details on when or where the interdictions occurred or what the shipments contained. "The panel is investigating reported prohibited chemical, ballistic missile and conventional arms cooperation between
Moscow - Russia´s next ambassador to Washington will be Anatoly Antonov, a former defense official who is subject to European sanctions over his role in the conflict in Ukraine, the Kremlin announced on Monday. Antonov takes over from Sergei Kislyak, whose contacts with members of President Donald Trump´s campaign team made him a central figure in the row over Russian influence over the U.S. presidential election. The incoming ambassador, 62, is a diplomat by training and is currently a deputy foreign minister. Between 2011 and 2016, he served as deputy defense minister, a period which coincided with Moscow´s
New York - A judge in Ohio returned fire at a man who "ambushed" him outside his courthouse, officials say. The judge was wounded, and the suspect killed, in an 8am shoot out. Jefferson County Judge Joseph Bruzzese Jr was heading to work at a courthouse in Steubenville, Ohio, where he had worked for 20 years, when he was attacked by a lone gunman. The 65-year-old judge was shot in the stomach and chest, and was rushed to the hospital via helicopter. Local reporters said he was taken into surgery and is in stable condition. Witnesses reported he was able to speak after being shot.
(Video) - A federal judge has ordered the Internal Revenue Service to release the names of specific employees involved in targeting Tea Party groups, after years of litigation over what conservatives have long called “chilling” behavior by one of the government’s “most feared” agencies. Judge Reggie B. Walton of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia also said the IRS must provide information about which groups were targeted and why, along with a strategy to make sure such targeting doesn´t happen again. The IRS is involved in multiple lawsuits with conservative groups related to the Tea Party targeting scandal;
Wal-Mart is stirring the pot and defending its fast-growing online grocery business in the Dallas area by partnering with Uber to make home deliveries. The test with Uber started last year in Phoenix and expanded Monday to Dallas and two Florida markets, Orlando and Tampa. Eight stores in the Dallas area will fill the orders, and Wal-Mart´s personal shoppers will pack groceries into "special cold pack bags," said Wal-Mart spokeswoman Anne Hatfield. Customers will know if the service is available in their ZIP code if they´re offered the home delivery option at checkout. The fee is a flat $9.95 and charged by Wal-Mart,

A government official confirmed an incident is ongoing after an item was found on a bus in the area. Video posted online shows tourists and residents being rushed from the area, which was cordoned off. One social media user said: "They evacuated the metro, railways and shops at Pl. Catalunya. (Video) - A petition to label the anti-Trump group "Antifa" a terrorist organization sped past the requirement of 100,000 signatures needed to get a response from the White House. The petition says Antifa´s "violent actions in multiple cities and their influence in the killings of multiple police officers throughout the United States" earns it the terrorist designation. "It is time for the pentagon to be consistent in its actions," the petition reads. "Just as they rightfully declared ISIS a terror group, they must declare AntiFa a terror group – on the grounds of principle, integrity, morality, and safety."
Two members of the Kennedy family were arrested for disorderly conduct near the family’s famed compound on Cape Cod, according to police. Max Kennedy, the 52-year-old son of Robert F. Kennedy, was taken into custody for disorderly conduct and a noise violation around 1 a.m. Sunday morning after reports of loud partying, Barnstable Police told the Boston Herald. His daughter Caroline, a 22-year-old California resident, was also arrested at a home a short walk from the main Kennedy compound. “There must always” be a flow low-skilled immigration to the United States, no matter its impact on American workers, according to Republican establishment figure Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ). Flake slammed the idea of potentially cutting legal immigration levels in half to raise the wages of American workers and end the current low-skilled oriented system to make only admit immigrants based on their skills and merit in a New York Times op-ed. Senators Tom Cotton (R-AR) and David Perdue (R-GA) introduced the specific plan, known as the “RAISE Act.” President Donald Trump endorsed the plan and said the legislation “will reduce poverty, increase
WASHINGTON – Rep. Don Beyer (D-Va.) said many federal employees are leaving the Environmental Protection Agency and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration over “fear” that the Trump administration is going to “suppress their viewpoints” or move them to irrelevant positions. Beyer, ranking member of the House Science, Space and Technology Subcommittee on Oversight, was asked if he would have full access to the “unfiltered” final version of the latest federal government report on climate change. The New York Times published a leaked draft of the report, which was submitted to the Trump administration for review. “The majority members of my committee may
Missouri State Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal hoped for the assassination of President Trump in a Facebook comment on Thursday then deleted it in a panic. She even acknowledged she would get a visit from the Secret Service for her comment. (Photo) Maria Chappelle-Nadal’s Facebook comment was so egregious that even ABC News reported on the story. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports: Missouri state Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal, D-University City, posted a comment in a Facebook conversation Thursday morning saying she hoped President Donald Trump will be assassinated. The comment was removed but Chappelle-Nadal confirmed to the Post-Dispatch that she had written it in
The Rev. Jesse Jackson on Sunday gave a strong endorsement to the movement for removing monuments to leaders of the Confederacy and called for the electoral college to be abolished. Speaking at the Islamic Center of Southern California, Jackson blamed the electoral college system, giving disproportionate influence to less populated states, for the 2000 and 2016 loss of Democratic presidential candidates Al Gore and Hillary Clinton despite their winning the popular vote. “Today we are looking at a structural problem,” Jackson said. “These monuments must go. Calling for the audience to repeat, he said, “Say the monuments and the flags
WASHINGTON — The Secret Service can no longer pay hundreds of agents it needs to carry out an expanded protective mission – in large part due to the sheer size of President Trump´s family and efforts necessary to secure their multiple residences up and down the East Coast. Secret Service Director Randolph "Tex´´ Alles, in an interview with USA TODAY, said more than 1,000 agents have already hit the federally mandated caps for salary and overtime allowances that were meant to last the entire year. The agency has faced a crushing workload since the height of the contentious election season, and it
Ten sailors are missing and five have been reported injured after the USS John S McCain was involved in a collision with a merchant vessel on Monday morning, the Navy has said. The collision between the US guided-missile destroyer and merchant vessel Alnic MC was reported at 5.24am local time. The John McCain was underway east of Singapore and the Strait of Malacca, on its way to a routine port visit in Singapore. It is now sailing under its own power and heading to port, the Navy said. The crew is reportedly fighting flooding in two crew berthings and an area of the ship known as the 'shaft alley'.
A Texas college campus removed four statues of prominent Confederate figures in an overnight sweep, according to reports. The statues of Gen. Robert E. Lee, Gen. Albert Sidney Johnston, Confederate Postmaster General John H. Reagan and former Texas Gov. James Stephen Hogg were each taken down from the campus’ Main Mall in an operation beginning just before midnight and continuing through the early morning, KSAT 12 reported. “Last week, the horrific displays of hatred at the University of Virginia and in Charlottesville shocked and saddened the nation,” University of Texas President Greg Fenves said in a statement. “These events make
The eclipse that occurred over Chicago led thousands to the beaches and streets, where they gasped and cried out as the sun partially disappeared. For WGN meteorologist Tom Skilling, it was an especially awe-inspiring event. The famed meteorologist hugged and high-fived people around him and wept as the eclipse occurred Monday afternoon. "Oh, my word," Skilling said. "Wow. This is amazing. What do you think of this, this?" At another point, he told viewers, "I´ll get my act together, guys." His voice cracking, Skilling apologized for his tears. Skilling´s heartfelt reaction earned him praise from fans:
Thanks to Monday´s solar eclipse, disastrous traffic jams have been taking over the country these last few days. And as folks leave the first coast-to-coast solar eclipse since 1918, the U.S. Department of Transportation estimated that nearly two-thirds of the nation´s resident live withing a day´s drive of the path of totality. And with Oregon being the first to see the eclipse, it and neighboring state Washington are experiencing the worst bouts of the traffic jams. ´This is the biggest transportation event that has ever hit Oregon,´ Dave Thompson, a spokesman for the Oregon Department of Transportation told AP. Oregon
Students at Howard University, a top-rated historically black college in Washington D.C., took to social media to express their anger over a group of white high school girls wearing pro-Trump clothing who visited the campus on Saturday. Some tweets referring to their visit also suggested the white high school girls should be beaten up. One of the high school guests, in a social media post of her own, said they were simply visiting the school’s cafeteria to get food as part of a larger tour of the nation’s capital, and faced a barrage of insults and aggressive acts, including having
Trust in the mass media is at an all-time low. Two-thirds of Americans believe the mainstream press publishes fake news. Yes, there’s still much good journalism to be found, if you know where to look. Yet, ask reporters who’ve been around a while, and many will tell you that a lot of good journalism is being left unpublished. Good journalists hate what’s happening to the news. We have only ourselves to blame. Firewalls that once strictly separated news from opinion have been replaced by hopelessly blurred lines. Once-forbidden practices such as editorializing within straight news reports, and the inclusion of opinions as if
