A Brave Lady’s Fight Against ISIS
National Review, by Jay Nordlinger

There are millions of videos floating around the Internet, of various kinds. Like you, I have seen many of these videos. And I suppose the most moving one I have ever seen is of Vian Dakhil, a Yazidi member of the Iraqi parliament. In August 2014, she pleaded for help against ISIS, who were raping and destroying her people. She explained this. Then she said, “Save us, save us,” until she collapsed. Dakhil was a guest at the Oslo Freedom Forum earlier this year. She gave a presentation, which began with the showing of that video. To see the presentation

Comments:
Jay excerpts his interview with her in the article. Her desperate speech in 2014 to the Iraqi parliament is worth (re-)watching as well. https://oslofreedomforum.com/talks/one-yazidi-against-isis

It´s a very moving and horrifying story. Everyone seems to have forgotten all about the Yazidis.

A headless torso found in waters off Denmark has been identified as missing Swedish journalist Kim Wall, Danish police say. There was a "DNA match between [the] torso and Kim Wall", Copenhagen police said on Twitter. Ms Wall was last seen alive on 10 August as she departed on a submarine trip with inventor Peter Madsen. The submarine sank hours after the search for Ms Wall began. Mr Madsen was charged with negligent manslaughter. He initially said he had dropped her off safely near Copenhagen, but has since said she died in an accident and that he had "buried" her at sea.

It’s High Time Barron Trump Starts Dressing

I’ve been on the Barron Trump train from the start, but it’s about time the president’s son starts dressing the part. Barron is the youngest son of Donald Trump and the only child the president shares with Melania Trump. Time and time again Barron has proved that he’s just a normal 11-year-old kid, despite the fact that his dad is the President of the United States and he lives in the White House. One thing that isn’t normal though is the way he dresses when he joins his parents for a public appearance. Barron was returning to the White House from New

Answering a question from the Washington Examiner during a press conference on Tuesday, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson suggested that Afghanistan´s security situation needs improving before the United States can negotiate with groups such as the Taliban and Haqqani network. As he put it: [ad] We are going to have to improve the security environment... the environment today is not conducive to carrying out those types of activities... so part of what we´re going to have to do is first ensure we´re ready to engage when conditions permit us to engage. It´s again why Pakistan is very important in this discussion as

Republican lawmakers are casting a wider net in their search for wrongdoing at federal agencies in past election cycles, after learning the Postal Service violated the law by allowing employees to do union-funded work for Hillary Clinton’s campaign while on leave. The lawmakers blasted out letters on Monday to 10 other federal government agencies questioning their unpaid leave policy for union-related political work. Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Ron Johnson, R-Wis., led the charge on the review of agencies’ practices after spurring an investigation

Sorry might not cut it for the Missouri lawmaker who called for President Trump’s assassination. Missouri Senate leaders announced Tuesday that Democratic state Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal has been stripped of her committee assignments, just two days after she tried to calm the controversy with a public apology. Meanwhile, the state’s Republican lieutenant governor, Mike Parson, on Tuesday called for the Senate to go into special session to expel Chappelle-Nadal from the body. “I do not make this request of you lightly, but you and I know it is the

CNN host Brian Stelter has faced criticism for revealing that his colleagues in the mainstream media regularly discuss whether President Trump is mentally fit to hold office. During Sunday´s edition of "Reliable Sources," Stelter said such conversations were happening "in newsrooms and TV studios" in the wake of Trump´s response to the previous weekend´s violence between white nationalists and counter-protesters and Charlottesville, Va. "Usually after the microphones are off, or after the stories are filed, after the paper has been put to bed, people’s concerns, and fears and questions come out," Stelter said. "... For more than 400 years, since the time of the Mughal emperor Jahangir, the Indian city of Kannauj has been distilling flowers to make perfume. But the industry is in decline. Synthetic perfumes are pushing the distilleries towards closure - and these exquisite scents may soon be lost forever. visitor to Kannauj could easily miss the signs of what was once the city’s main industry. But among the cars, lorries and street vendors, just occasionally a cart passes by laden with flower baskets, and turns through a large gate into the stone-paved alleyways of the old city. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin’s wife, Louise Linton, was being blasted by social media users on Monday night for posting a picture of herself exiting a government plane in designer clothes — which she flaunted using hashtags. While it was mostly lighthearted, the online outrage seemed to get to the Scottish actress — seeing how she scolded a woman who called her out on Instagram. “Glad we could pay for your little getaway,” the user said. To which Linton replied, “Cute! Aw!!! Did you think this was a personal trip?! Adorable! Do you think the US govt paid for our honeymoon

In her most detailed public comments about what happened during the second presidential debate, Hillary Clinton said her “skin crawled” as Donald Trump loomed behind her on the stage in St. Louis in October. The comments are included in her new book, “What Happened,” which she called an attempt to “pull back the curtain” on her losing bid for the presidency. Some of the moments during the campaign, she said, “baffled” her. The book comes out Sept. 12, but audio excerpts, read by Clinton herself, were played on MSNBC on Wednesday morning. In the recording, Clinton noted that she wrote

As the face of CNN, Anderson Cooper makes a very good living as wealthy, privileged white man casting judgments of affiliation upon his political enemies. This includes taking a handful of idiotic white supremacists and declaring they represent millions of Republicans/conservatives, pro-America, Trump supporters, etc. And yet Mr. Cooper himself has a much closer affiliation to slavery than he likely wants his leftist viewers to know. As a descendant of the Vanderbilt family, one of the wealthiest “old money” families in American history, Cooper is a direct descendant of big time slave owners. Cooper’s great-great grandfather, Cornelius Vanderbilt, owned several plantations,

President Trump’s “America First” base was the biggest loser of Trump’s speech on Afghanistan Monday night, and many quickly expressed their disappointment at the business-as-usual address from the president who had once promised to limit American intervention abroad and focus on nation-building at home. Trump’s speech, in which he pledged to increase the number of troops in the 16-year-war, was the first since the departure of Chief Strategist Steve Bannon and confirmed the fears of many on the right that without a strong nationalist voice in the West Wing, the President would revert to the same old fare that Americans had
