A Brave Lady’s Fight Against ISIS
National Review, by Jay Nordlinger

There are millions of videos floating around the Internet, of various kinds. Like you, I have seen many of these videos. And I suppose the most moving one I have ever seen is of Vian Dakhil, a Yazidi member of the Iraqi parliament. In August 2014, she pleaded for help against ISIS, who were raping and destroying her people. She explained this. Then she said, “Save us, save us,” until she collapsed. Dakhil was a guest at the Oslo Freedom Forum earlier this year. She gave a presentation, which began with the showing of that video. To see the presentation

Jay excerpts his interview with her in the article. Her desperate speech in 2014 to the Iraqi parliament is worth (re-)watching as well. https://oslofreedomforum.com/talks/one-yazidi-against-isis

It´s a very moving and horrifying story. Everyone seems to have forgotten all about the Yazidis.

More than seven months into his presidency, Donald Trump is still mocking Hillary Clinton over his 2016 electoral victory. President Trump retweeted a meme Saturday night poking fun at the former of secretary of state´s soon-to-be-released memoir recounting her perspective of the 2016 general election. The book, titled "What Happened," is parodied in the post with a depiction of a book about Trump, titled, "I Happened." The president has frequently taken to social media to take jabs at Clinton while in office. Trump on Friday responded to a report about former FBI Director James Comey’s handling of

MSNBC’s Alex Witt anchored coverage of President Trump‘s visit to a Houston shelter this afternoon, and she observed that today is showing people a “softer side” of the Commander-in-Chief. As Trump greeted and hugged people inside NRG Stadium, Witt said, “He’s being far more tactile than he was in his first visit, and just getting right there up with folks who have been displaced by Harvey. Again, this is a recovery center. And, you know, so there he is perhaps now showing a little bit more to his critics that he’s got an empathetic side.” As they continued

President Donald Trump, according to various media reports — which, to be fair, always paint this White House as a stumbling block of inefficiency, infighting and chaos — is having a tough time adjusting to his Chief of Staff John Kelly’s way of doing business. Is this the media’s way of suggesting Trump’s about to fire another? Honestly, the two appear as different in personalities as night and day. So it’s hardly surprising their White House ways of doing business might clash once and again. But painting petty personality disputes as proof positive of a chaotic and crumbling White House

HIGHLANDS, Texas — As Dwight Chandler sipped beer and swept out the thick muck caked inside his devastated home, he worried whether Harvey´s floodwaters had also washed in pollution from the old acid pit just a couple blocks away. Long a center of the nation´s petrochemical industry, the Houston metro area has more than a dozen Superfund sites, designated by the Environmental Protection Agency as being among America´s most intensely contaminated places. Many are now flooded, with the risk that waters were stirring dangerous sediment. The Highlands Acid Pit site near Chandler´s home was filled in the 1950s with toxic

Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Charles Grassley and the committee´s ranking Democrat, Dianne Feinstein, want to interview two high-ranking FBI officials about some key aspects of the bureau´s role in the Trump-Russia investigation -- the Trump dossier, the firing of James Comey, and more. But the FBI doesn´t want those officials to talk -- even though the Judiciary Committee has oversight responsibility for the FBI, and even though the request is bipartisan, and even though there appears to be no conflict with the ongoing Trump-Russia investigation conducted by special prosecutor James Mueller. A standoff could be developing. It began on

President Trump had a friendly meeting with two of his biggest critics in the House after visiting with victims of Hurricane Harvey in Texas on Saturday. Reps. Al Green, D-Texas, and Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas, both met with Trump on the steps at Air Force One at Ellington Field in Houston as the president departed to visit flood victims in Louisiana. Both Green and Lee have advocated for Trump´s impeachment in the past. Green has actually filed articles of impeachment; while Jackson has also supported the notion of using the 25th Amendment to remove Trump. "Trump seemed to

In the throes of a debate about how much taxpayer money would go to Illinois public schools, state lawmakers have agreed to provide students more educational options. On Thursday, Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner’s signature created a program that allows for up to $75 million in tax credit-eligible contributions to K-12 private school scholarship organizations. Under the law, individuals and businesses can make charitable contributions to nonprofit organizations that award scholarships to eligible students. Donors will receive a credit on their state taxes worth 75 percent of their contributions. To be eligible for a scholarship, students must be from families with

Those old romantic moments of seeing a loved one off at the airport gate are back — in Pittsburgh. The city’s airport this Tuesday will become the country’s first since 9/11 to allow people without tickets past security checkpoints to shop or bid farewell to loved ones. But the Association of Professional Flight Attendants — representing American Airlines employees — thinks it’ll be a bad presence that’ll only risk public safety and cause congestion. “Beyond security concerns, having shoppers clog already frustratingly long TSA security lines will lead to flight delays and more passengers missing flights, especially during the busy

The thing to understand, what has always been the most important thing to understand, is that Jim Comey was out in front, but he was not calling the shots. On the right, the commentariat is in full-throttle outrage over the revelation that former FBI Director Comey began drafting his statement exonerating Hillary Clinton in April 2016 – more than two months before he delivered the statement at his now famous July 5 press conference. The news appears in a letter written to new FBI Director Christopher Wray by two senior Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans, Chairman Chuck Grassley and Senator Lindsey

The U.S. Justice Department has no evidence to support President Donald Trump’s statement in March that phones in Trump Tower were wiretapped at the order of his predecessor, Barack Obama, before last year’s election, according to a court filing Friday. The assertion came in a motion filed in a Freedom of Information request from a government transparency watchdog, American Oversight, which sought information about any surveillance involving Trump, (Snip) “Both FBI and NSD confirm that they have no records related to wiretaps as described by the March 4, 2017 tweets,” the Justice Department filing said.

America tried to let Hillary Clinton off the hook. Despite cries of “lock her up” during the campaign, most of the nation had little appetite for prosecuting her after the election, with even Donald Trump willing to give her a free pass. “I don’t want to hurt the Clintons, I really don’t,” Trump told The New York Times two weeks after his victory. “She went through a lot and suffered greatly in many different ways.” But the Clinton e-mail scandal, like Clinton herself, won’t go away. It remains a blot on the legacy of the Obama administration, the Justice Department and the

The FBI was covering up its obstruction of justice in the, er, “matter” knowing full well that former Director James Comey had already exonerated Hillary Clinton before the alleged investigation was complete and all witnesses had been interviewed and months before Comey falsely claimed in his announcement that no competent prosecutor would take Hillary’s case. Thousands of Dreamers have used a loophole in federal law to get on a full pathway to citizenship, top congressional Republicans revealed Friday, citing government data withheld by the Obama administration but provided by the Trump administration. The Dreamers were all part of DACA, the legally questionable amnesty program that’s under scrutiny right now as President Trump decides whether to scrap the Obama-era amnesty. The House and Senate Judiciary Committees revealed that more than 45,000 DACA recipients were approved for “advance parole,” which is permission to leave and reenter the U.S. despite not being in permanent legal status here. Antifa is a violent, anti-fascist protest group with deep roots in the political left. The disparate, loosely organized factions of the group are peppered throughout the country and show up at events that they deem ‘fascist’ in order to disrupt and often engage in criminal behavior. A detailed list of what antifa stands for is hard to pin down, but it is certainly anti-Trump, and the group´s tactics typically involve the destruction of property and violence towards innocent civilians. That violence has resulted in a number of antifa arrests over the past few months. Last weekend, marauding mobs of antifa
