Scientists say Miami could cease
to exist within our children´s lifetimes

Miami, a city of 430,000 people, could disappear within the century if the worst climate change predictions come true. New York Magazine´s David Wallace-Wells spoke with dozens of climatologists and researchers in related fields for an investigation on the outcomes of climate change if aggressive preventative action isn´t taken. The results were not pretty. (Snip) Within the century, a combination of polar melting, carbon emissions, and ice-sheet collapses could cause chronic flooding to wipe out Miami — and as many as 670 coastal communities, including Cambridge, Massachusetts; Oakland, California; St. Petersburg, Florida; and four of the five boroughs of New York City, according

My only concern is to where New Yorkers will retire, those who survive their own flooding. There is no hurry though with one inch a century of water level increase.

While accepting his ill gotten Nobel Prize in 2007 the Gorebot thundered with assurance that in seven years the Arctic will be entirely ice free in summer in seven years. August 2014 had seen record year over year growth of the icecap for over three years and expeditions to measure the ice ´melt´ got stuck and had to be rescued.

Some scientists will say anything to draw attention to themselves. They are basically fund-raising on the back of fear. Their views are not sustained by the facts so fear is the only option left for them.

The world will cease to exist if the worst comet predictions come true. So what? When I was very young, I remember the summers being very hot. Now that I am older, the summers are still hot. Over 50-60 years there hasn´t been a change in the summers that I have experienced. So why would the world change to utter disaster in less than 10 years. That would take a beyond dramatic change like a comet strike. Somehow, I just don´t buy all the hysteria.

So the Earth is supposed to remain static, never changing? Look at the beautifully colored layers of sedimentary rock in the Grand Canyon. Every one of those layers was at the bottom of the ocean at sometime in the Geologic past.

Also remember Miami was built on sand which is on top of limestone. Just think sinkholes.

Miami´s excitable mayor recently declared that the city was going under water. That´s not true, nor will it be a century or more from now. Over time the oceans rise and recede, and the climate always changes. The only sensible thing for humanity to do is to do what the plant and animal kingdoms do: adapt. There´s nothing, positively or negatively, that mankind can do about the oceans to the climate. Quixotic attempts to "heal" the earth are a total waste of our wealth, and should be abandoned, along with politicians who keep insisting that we do something about it.

I have lived for over thirty years in a place on the edge of the Gulf where the tide can be observed, inch by inch, every day, right out my rear widow. Though my information is anecdotal, I can assure you that high and low tides are exactly where they were three decades ago. Whatever changes might have occurred in the ocean, they´re not noticeable here. It´s no different in Miami, regardless what their idiot mayor thinks.

Two keywords in the first line flag this as deranged hyperbole - ´could´ and ´worst´. Chicken Little couldn´t do it better.

Cambridge, MA´s location about a mile "up Chuck River" from Boston Harbor (so the water level rises and falls with the ocean tides). I think that makes it a bona fide "coastal community", O.P...

A better place to instill fear is in Hawaii. If this comes true the Hawaiian islands will be half submerged. The climanaiaces fear that if all the icebergs floating in the ocean melt that sea levels will rise. Just like when they have a scotch on the rocks, when all the ice cubes melt, their drink will overflow the glass and spill out all over ther car seats.

SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco is suing five of the world´s largest oil and gas companies for the costs of sea walls and other infrastructure needed to protect against climate change. The lawsuit filed Tuesday in California court accuses the companies of ignoring warnings that fossil fuels would cause catastrophic global warming and mounting campaigns to discredit climate change science. Democratic candidates considering a run for president in 2020 will have to make their case early to voters on the liberal Left Coast, if officials in key western states get their way. Officials in California, Oregon and Washington are taking steps to move their presidential primary contests toward the front of the nominating calendar. They say they want voters in their states to have more influence over the candidates the two parties will nominate, and holding earlier contests is key to expanding that influence. While promoting her newly released memoir, Hillary Clinton has placed blame on several factors for her loss to Donald Trump last November — from her own mistakes, to Russian interference in the U.S. election, and the late intervention by then-FBI director James Comey. But Clinton has also spoken candidly about how deep-rooted sexism played a hand in her defeat, and about the double standards she faced as the first woman nominated by a major party for president in America’s 240-year history. In an interview with the New York Times published Saturday, Clinton spoke further about how misogyny is used as

Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” while reacting to President Donald Trump’s speech at United Nations, former White House press secretary for the Obama administration Josh Earnest said the overall speech lacked “coherence,” and Trump mocking North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un was “foolish.” Earnest said, “Having sat in the hall of the United Nations where the president of the United States delivers an address for gathered world leaders — that’s something I did for the last three years—what you know world leaders are looking for in that room is a coherent strategy for taking on the biggest challenges around the

In Federalist No. 68, his pseudonymous essay on “The Mode of Electing the President,” Alexander Hamilton wrote that the Electoral College could shield the United States “from the desire in foreign powers to gain an improper ascendant in our councils.” (Snip) Hamilton and his colleagues never could have envisioned a year like 2016, when an enemy state—Russia—was able to manipulate America’s election process with stunning effectiveness. But it’s clear the national security rationale for the Electoral College is outdated and therefore it should be retired. Simply put, it enables foreign powers to more easily pierce the very shield Hamilton imagined

Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown of California compared President Donald Trump supporters to prehistoric cave dwellers Monday during a New York climate event. Brown, an outspoken Trump critic, issued an usually harsh derision of Trump supporters after dismissing the president’s rhetoric on climate change science and U.S. policy toward North Korea as “stupid and dangerous and silly.” “They’re both kind of very similar,” Brown said. “You should check out the derivation of ‘Trump-ite’ and ‘troglodyte,’ because they both refer to people who dwell in deep, dark caves.” Brown attended the climate event, which coincided with the U.N. meeting in New York,

Hillary Clinton said First Lady Melania Trump isn’t doing enough to tackle cyberbullying. “No, no and, look, I don´t think anybody is doing enough on cyberbullying,” Clinton told Mic when asked if she thought Trump had enforced her platform. Trump condemned cyberbullying in her first United Nations speech in New York City on Wednesday. “We must come together for the good of our children,” she said. “Therefore, we must teach each child the values of empathy and communication that are at the core of kindness, mindfulness, integrity and leadership, which can only be taught by example.”

U2 frontman Bono unloaded on President Donald Trump in a Rolling Stone interview published Wednesday, revealing that his Irish rock band’s new album will take on the “bully on the bully pulpit” because “silence is not an option.” In January, U2 founding guitarist The Edge revealed that “Songs of Experience,” the band’s follow-up to its platinum-selling 2014 album “Songs of Innocence,” was delayed because of Trump’s election. Now Bono says “there’s a couple of reasons why we delayed Songs of Experience. One personal, one political.” “The world around us was certainly changing out of all recognition, we nearly lost the

Over the years, a curious habit has taken hold at the United Nations. A body designed to strengthen the best of humanity has too often become a font of doublespeak and appeasement that protects the worst of humanity. That tragic comity was shattered when President Trump played the skunk at the garden party and dared to tell the truth. Many truths, in fact. Among them, that Islamic terrorism is a scourge that must be stopped. That Iran is controlled by a “murderous regime” bent on getting nukes. That North Korea’s “Rocket man is on a suicide mission” and the United States “will have
