Chicago Police officers made 85,493 arrests in 2016, a 24 percent drop from the year before and roughly half the number of arrests they made the year before Mayor Rahm Emanuel took office. The steady and precipitous decline in arrests coincided with the mayor’s decision to rely on overtime — to the tune of $143 million last year, and even more during in the first quarter of this year — to mask a severe manpower shortage before abruptly reversing course and embarking on a two-year hiring blitz. The decline also underscored how important it is for Emanuel to bolster police

Almost no commentator, no reviewer, has mentioned the most newsworthy fact about Hillary Clinton´s latest memoir—which is the near total lack of anything actually newsworthy in the book. With What Happened, Clinton would at last "let down her hair," Simon & Schuster´s publicists loudly proclaimed before the book´s publication. And that was the line dutifully repeated by reporter after reporter, as though it were a fact. As though, coming from Clinton´s people, it didn´t need to be checked or reported with even the slight distancing of "Hillary Clinton says she´s let down her hair in her new book." But then,

When Congress hauls in Equifax CEO Richard Smith to grill him, it can start by asking why he put someone with degrees in music in charge of the company’s data security. On Thursday´s Morning Joe, former senior campaign strategist of the unsuccessful 2008 Presidential campaign of John McCain and current MSNBC Political Analyst Steve Schmidt decided to tap deep into his political bloodlust. Although the general tenor of the discussion involved Joe Scarborough repeatedly invoking a recent Politico/Morning Consult poll as evidence that roughly 90% of American voters want some form of amnesty for the DACA “dreamers,” Schmidt decided to take it one step further. He labeled those who support deporting “dreamers” as “extreme,” purveyors of “cruelty,” and “loons screaming out there on the fringes” who are “gonna have no impact.”
