Breaking: Senate to delay Obamacare repeal vote over GOP fears it wouldn´t have enough votes after John McCain undergoes surgery to remove blood clot from above his left eye Daily Mail [UK], by Reuters, and Ariel Zilber of DM
The Senate will delay a vote initially scheduled for this coming week on repealing and replacing Obamacare after Arizona Senator John McCain announced Saturday he would not return to Washington for at least a week while he recovers from surgery. McCain will remain in Arizona next week to recuperate from a medical procedure that removed a 2-inch blood clot above his left eye, his office announced in a statement on Saturday. Soon after news of McCain´s surgery broke, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell´s office issued a statement announcing that he would ´defer´ a vote on the health care legislation. McCain´s absence
Supra-orbital craniotomy (often called "eyebrow" craniotomy) is a procedure used to remove brain tumors. In this procedure, neurosurgeons make a small incision within the eyebrow to access tumors in the front of the brain or pituitary tumors. This approach is used instead of endonasal endoscopic surgery when a tumor is very large or close to the optic nerves or vital arteries. (Snip) The supra-orbital craniotomy may be part of the treatment for Rathke’s cleft cysts, skull base tumors and some pituitary tumors.
It is a lie that the Federal Government must provide health care plans or coverage.
The Federal Government ought to be OUT of this game. Except for Medicaid, which was intended for the VERY poor, seriously and truly disabled (not just feelin´ sad), elderly poor. Medicare is too long established to be tossed out. But i believe that the free market could find a way to sustain and strengthen it and open it up to more competition.
The premise is faulty, therefore everything that follows is meaningless.
Give people choices, let the free market operate and there will be many choices and the market will weed out the bad; protect against fraud; flush regulations.
I trust the free market rather than the heavy hand of a central command and control system which crushes everything that spurs creativity and encourages, by rewards, growth.
One more thing: the section of the GOP bill regarding the opiod "crisis"... this should be a stand alone bill (although i think States should handle their own problems. The Feds need to enforce laws against, in particular, drug trafficking.
Why should opiod "crisis" legislation be a permanent part of a healthcare bill? It will NEVER go away, and will only cost billions, then trillion more over the years. We all have heard the stories about SSDI; and addicts who NEVER, EVER get off drugs or methadone.
Give a certain amount to States asking for help, but put it in the form of grants. Program successes will win a bonus or something. An incentive program. Save lives, save money!
They can pass this as a stand-alone bill.
This would remove an impediment to passing legislation to undo BOcare.
President Trump scolded a female reporter who asked him about his three tweet announcement this morning to ban transgender servicemembers. ´She´s very rude,´ Trump said, as he entertained more than 100 American Legion boys and Auxiliary girls at an afternoon White House Rose Garden event. Trump blindsided his Pentagon Wednesday morning when he announced the policy change, with the White House saying later that he had made the decision yesterday. At Wednesday´s press briefing, Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said upon Trump´s decision, Secretary of Defense James Mattis was immediately informed, along with the rest of the president´s national security team.
A warehouse full of homemade explosives set to be used in terrror attacks by ISIS in northern Iraq has been destroyed in an RAF operation. In the past week, British air force pilots have also wiped out dozens of jihadists in Iraq and Syria, with sniper posts and terrorist positions targeted in strikes in Raqqa, the capital of ISIS´s ´caliphate´. The warehouse was struck after intelligence officers identified the bomb factory near Hawijah in the Kirkuk province of Iraq last Wednesday. The RAF has said that ´large quantities´ of explosives were being stored by the jihadist group, which earlier this month lost
A former member of an IRA splinter group went on trial Wednesday in Germany, 21 years after he allegedly tried to hit a British base there with mortar shells. The Belfast-born man, 48, identified by Irish media as James Corry, was arrested in December at Frankfurt Airport after his extradition by Irish authorities. He is accused of carrying out the attack in 1996 and was placed on the international wanted list in 2004 by the German authorities. In spite of this, it has taken 13 years for Corry to finally be put on trial, drawing widespread criticism for the delay.
YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO — This town was on fire. By 1 in the afternoon on Tuesday every main thoroughfare in downtown Youngstown was filled with happy people heading towards the Covelli Centre. Folks dressed in red, white and blue crisscrossed the main grids as vendors sold “Make America Great Again” ball caps, American flags and bottles of water. Thousands had filled the gravel parking lot to wait until the doors opened at 4, license plates revealing they had traveled as far as Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania and West Virginia to see the president speak directly to them in this Rust Belt city.
New petrol and diesel cars will be banned from 2040 to improve air quality. The crackdown could also see the introduction of levies on busy roads for owners of the most polluting vehicles. And hopes of a major scrappage scheme to help those who were encouraged to buy diesels appear to have been dashed. The strategy will be launched today by ministers Michael Gove and Chris Grayling. It was forced on the Government by defeat in a High Court case on air pollution. From 2040, drivers will be able to buy electric cars only – ending the near 150-year reign
Senate Republicans assembled the votes to move to a controversial bill to repeal Obamacare Tuesday afternoon, with a last-minute boost from ailing Sen. John McCain. The Senate moved to debate an Obamacare repeal bill by a vote of 50 to 50 – with Vice President breaking the tie. But protesters seized a key moment as the final vote approached by standing and pleading with lawmakers: ´Don´t kill us, kill the bill.´ As the Senate clerk ticked through the votes on a pivotal motion to proceed to the health care bill, just two Republicans broke ranks: Sen. Susan Collins of Maine
President Trump needs to have a talk with Rex Tillerson. Tillerson’s State Department has issued a report that blames Israel for…EVERYTHING. Nobody saw that coming. Well I sure didn’t. Love Trump. Tillerson, not so much, even from the start. The report okays Arab violence as a means to redress “frustrations” and “disappointments”…such as “lack of hope in achieving Palestinian statehood.” The Jews, according to this, are obliged to hand over the country to the Arabs. Wait. There’s more. The report faults the Jews, yes, Israel, for “incitement.” (Stop laughing.) Actually there’s much more. But in sum, the main gripe is that the Jews
An Israeli security official serving in the Israeli embassy in Amman, Jordan, was wounded Sunday night when he was attacked by a terrorist in his home adjacent to the embassy. Two Jordanian men were killed in the incident, including the suspected terrorist. Local police have released few details of the attack, referring only to an unspecified “incident” at the embassy compound. At this time there are still conflicting reports regarding the details of the attack. According to a report by the Hebrew daily Maariv, the attack took place while furniture was being moved into the home of the deputy security
A SUICIDE attacker killed at least 24 people and injured 40 after detonating a car bomb in Kabul on Monday, police reported. The number of casualties is expected to rise and the target of the attack is not yet known. Acting Interior Ministry spokesman Najib Danish said at least 24 people had been killed and 40 injured but the casualty toll could rise further. Government security sources said a small bus owned by the Ministry of Mines had been destroyed. Salim Rasouli, director of the city´s hospitals, said at least 13 dead and 17 wounded had been taken to hospitals. The
President Trump finally tweeted on Sunday, after a trip to his Trump National Golf Club in Virginia, calling out members of his own party for not defending him better against the Russian collusion claims. ´It´s very sad that Republicans, even some that were carried over the line on my back, do very little to protect their President,´ Trump wrote Sunday, following a tweet that said, ´As the phony Russian Witch Hunt continues, two groups are laughing at this excuse for a lost election taking hold, Democrats and Russians!´ Trump has continually griped about the sets of investigations, including several on Capitol Hill,
It was the ultimate humiliation. The 60-strong garrison of highly trained Royal Marines were frogmarched with their hands up through Port Stanley and forced to lie face-down on a road with the Argentinian conquerors of the Falkland Islands strutting victoriously over them. Press photographs of their capitulation were flashed around the world and were printed here under banner headlines such as ´Surrender´ and ´Shame´ alongside reports that the Marines had run up the white flag with barely a shot fired. Even the official history of the conflict, written by Professor Sir Lawrence Freedman, suggests that their resistance was little more than token
Three Israelis were murdered on Friday evening in a stabbing a stabbing attack in the Shomron (Samaria) community of Halamish, located to the north of Ramallah. A terrorist broke into a home in the community as the residents were in the middle of their Shabbat dinner, stabbing four people. Two men, one in his 40s and one in his 60s, and a woman in her 40s, suffered critical injuries and were later pronounced dead. A 60-year-old woman suffered moderate-to-serious injuries in the attack and was evacuated by Magen David Adom paramedics to the Shaare Zedek Hospital in Jerusalem. The terrorist, identified as
New research shows that ancient humans had sex with non human species. According to a study conducted by Omer Gokcumen, an assistant professor of biological sciences at the University of Buffalo, ancient humans had intercourse with a "ghost species" of "proto human". Gokcumen explains that humans are only one member of a broader species named "hominins". The research found that humans had sex with other members of the hominins group.
President Trump and his advisers are floating possible replacements for Attorney General Jeff Sessions — and the list includes Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), The Washington Post reports.Cruz and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) are reportedly among the candidates Trump’s team is considering to replace Sessions, though Giuliani said earlier in the day that he´s not being considered. Trump has repeatedly said that he is disappointed by Sessions’s decision to recuse himself from the probe into ties between the Trump administration and Russia, saying in an interview last week that he would have never hired Sessions if he knew
When President Trump made his initial remarks reflecting disappointment in Attorney General Jeff Sessions it was initially unnerving. The subsequent fallout from the public criticism has united the NeverTrump crowd, Cruzbots and professionally GOPe, to defend the honor of the much beloved former Senator. The opportunity to bash Trump is simply an ancillary benefit. Conversely, the MAGA community has largely portrayed the rift as if the Presidential critique was part of a larger strategy between the President and Attorney General. If we wait long enough some mysterious master plan will eventually to be discovered. However, the subsequent POTUS tweets and comments do
Former House Speaker John Boehner said at an event in Las Vegas last week that he used to “sneak into” the White House to see President Barack Obama to avoid scrutiny from the “right-wing press,” according to a report by the Washington Post, which obtained a videotape of Boehner’s remarks. Boehner also lamented the fact that Americans now have too many choices of where to go for news and information. “What’s making everything even worse today is because we have so much news, people get to choose where they get their news,” Boehner said, according to the Post. “It used
At the end of a Senate subcommittee hearing on Tuesday morning, someone sitting near Chairman Susan Collins (R-Maine) didn’t switch off a microphone. Collins was recorded discussing the federal budget and President Trump’s lack of familiarity with the details of governing with a colleague — apparently Sen. Jack Reed (R.I.), the ranking Democrat on the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies subcommittee.
BALTIMORE - African American activists have a message for Democrats: If you want to win back the White House, strongly consider a black person on the ticket. On their list are a growing roster of black politicians, notably Sens. Cory Booker, D-N.J. and Kamala Harris, D-Calif., former Attorney General Eric Holder and Deval Patrick, former governor of Massachusetts. Turnout among African Americans in the 2016 presidential election was the smallest in 20 years. It’s a big concern as the NAACP holds its annual convention this week in Baltimore, its first major gathering since the election. Hilary Shelton, head of the NAACP’s
Monday on WISN’s “The Jay Weber Show,” Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) defended special counsel Robert Mueller and his investigation into Russian election interference by saying Mueller was “anything but” a “biased partisan.” A listener asked Ryan a question about why Republicans in Congress are not doing more to defend Trump against “what is becoming an obvious witch-hunt.” Ryan replied, “Remember, Bob Mueller is a Republican, who was appointed by a Republican, who served in the Republican administration, and crossed over — I mean and stayed on until his term ended.” He continued, “I don’t think many people are saying Bob
Former House IT staffer Imran Awan was arrested Monday night at Dulles International Airport where he was "trying to leave the country," Fox news reported Tuesday evening. Following his arrest for bank fraud, Awan was finally fired by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla. (Snip) Imran and his Pakistani-born brothers, Abid and Jamal Awan, are currently under criminal investigation by U.S. Capitol Police and the FBI on suspicion that they accessed congressional computers without permission and stole equipment. There is also evidence of "financial schemes that extend beyond the Capitol Police’s purview and may expand to Pakistan," according to The Daily
Sticky-fingered socialist Bernie Sanders is apparently stealing his neighbor´s Washington Post subscription, as any good socialist might do. In perhaps the funniest and most fitting news of the year, WMAL radio host Chris Plante told his audience of a story he heard from friends about the elderly senator. A man living next to Sanders apparently called the Post to complain that he was hardly ever receiving his subscription. After an investigation into the matter, the paying customer realized that it was his neighbor, Senator Sanders, who was stealing the paper right from under his nose. (Snip) First it was reported that
President Trump´s recent comments undermining Attorney General Jeff Sessions came off as unprofessional to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, who may depart his post sooner than expected, according to a report. Trump went after Sessions, his first congressional endorser and a longtime advisor, for having recused himself from oversight of the FBI´s Russia probe, speaking during a New York Times interview last week. ´I think is very unfair to the president,´ Trump said. ´It´s extremely unfair, and that´s a mild word, to the president,´ Trump said in reference to the nation´s top law enforcement officer. Several sources say the former Exxon CEO found
In the most vocal opposition to president Donald Trump yet, former CIA Director John Brennan said that if the White House tries to fire special counsel Robert Mueller, government officials should refuse to follow the president orders, as they would be - in his view - “inconsistent” with the duties of the executive branch. "I think it´s the obligation of some executive branch officials to refuse to carry that out. I would just hope that this is not going to be a partisan issue. That Republicans, Democrats are going to see that the future of this government is at stake
President Donald Trump brought his bombastic politics to a Boy Scouts event Monday in West Virginia, drawing cheers from the children gathered at the event and prompting comparisons between his rousing rhetoric and Nazi youth rallies from some liberal activists and journalists. (Snip) "The Boy Scouts must distance themselves from that offensive attempt to politicize scouting and turn them into a Trump youth organization," wrote Richard W. Painter, vice-chairman of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington and the chief ethics lawyer in the White House under Bush, on Twitter Monday night.
