Breaking: Senate to delay Obamacare repeal vote over GOP fears it wouldn´t have enough votes after John McCain undergoes surgery to remove blood clot from above his left eye Daily Mail [UK], by Reuters, and Ariel Zilber of DM
The Senate will delay a vote initially scheduled for this coming week on repealing and replacing Obamacare after Arizona Senator John McCain announced Saturday he would not return to Washington for at least a week while he recovers from surgery. McCain will remain in Arizona next week to recuperate from a medical procedure that removed a 2-inch blood clot above his left eye, his office announced in a statement on Saturday. Soon after news of McCain´s surgery broke, Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell´s office issued a statement announcing that he would ´defer´ a vote on the health care legislation. Supra-orbital craniotomy (often called "eyebrow" craniotomy) is a procedure used to remove brain tumors. In this procedure, neurosurgeons make a small incision within the eyebrow to access tumors in the front of the brain or pituitary tumors. This approach is used instead of endonasal endoscopic surgery when a tumor is very large or close to the optic nerves or vital arteries. (Snip) The supra-orbital craniotomy may be part of the treatment for Rathke’s cleft cysts, skull base tumors and some pituitary tumors.
It is a lie that the Federal Government must provide health care plans or coverage.
The Federal Government ought to be OUT of this game. Except for Medicaid, which was intended for the VERY poor, seriously and truly disabled (not just feelin´ sad), elderly poor. Medicare is too long established to be tossed out. But i believe that the free market could find a way to sustain and strengthen it and open it up to more competition.
The premise is faulty, therefore everything that follows is meaningless.
Give people choices, let the free market operate and there will be many choices and the market will weed out the bad; protect against fraud; flush regulations.
I trust the free market rather than the heavy hand of a central command and control system which crushes everything that spurs creativity and encourages, by rewards, growth.
One more thing: the section of the GOP bill regarding the opiod "crisis"... this should be a stand alone bill (although i think States should handle their own problems. The Feds need to enforce laws against, in particular, drug trafficking.
Why should opiod "crisis" legislation be a permanent part of a healthcare bill? It will NEVER go away, and will only cost billions, then trillion more over the years. We all have heard the stories about SSDI; and addicts who NEVER, EVER get off drugs or methadone.
Give a certain amount to States asking for help, but put it in the form of grants. Program successes will win a bonus or something. An incentive program. Save lives, save money!
They can pass this as a stand-alone bill.
This would remove an impediment to passing legislation to undo BOcare.
A perfect storm of climatic conditions turned Hurricane Irma into the monster that is currently wreaking havoc on the Caribbean and headed for the US mainland. Unusually warm ocean water in the Atlantic, high atmospheric pressure and weak wind shear have combined to fuel the category five tropical cyclone. Wind speeds of 250 kph were recorded as it hit land in Barbuda yesterday morning, before instruments broke. With ocean winds reaching sustained speeds of 183 mph (295 kph), this makes Irma the strongest storm to ever form over the Atlantic. For Irma to not only gain its strength but subsequently
Hurricane Irma — with its ferocious 185 mph winds — made landfall in the Caribbean early Wednesday, slamming into Barbuda and Antigua as it headed for Puerto Rico. Cuba and South Florida were still in Irma’s projected path into the weekend. The catastrophic Category 5 storm, the most powerful Atlantic storm on record, is expected to bring strong storm surges and up to 20 inches of rain in some places. Irma is moving west-northwest at 16 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center’s advisory at 5 a.m. Wednesday, with the track shifting slightly to the east. The Bahamas government has issued a hurricane warning
A fight broke out Tuesday night at a Home Depot store in North Miami as customers sparred about plywood during Hurricane Irma preparations. A Royal Navy rigid-hulled inflatable boat chased off a Spanish Guardia Civil boat in UK waters off Gibraltar. It did so after the Spanish patrol boat Rio Belelle cut across USNS Carson City as it entered Gibraltar this morning. Gibraltar Coast Watchers founder Michael J Sanchez said: ´Nothing better to ruffle Spain´s feathers that a visit of a U.S. Navy ship to Gibraltar...very irresponsible and reckless move by the Spanish vessel.´ MailOnline have contacted the Foreign & Commonwealth Office for a comment. USNS Carson City is the seventh Spearhead-class expeditionary fast transport, currently in service with the Military Sealift Command. It was launched
We were talking about the crisis in Tel Aviv, where thousands of infiltrators have taken over parts of the town, when my friend said it’s just as bad here in the United States, except that these invaders were brought here legally. “There’s more than one Linda Sarsour,” he said. “Thousands. Maybe millions.” For him – and for many others – it’s personal. Marv has two kids going back to college in a few weeks and he fears for their safety. “In my day,” he said, “the college years were the best of times.” Not so in our day. His two kids aren’t saying
President Donald Trump finally got some face time with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell after the two men hadn´t spoken for weeks. Trump hosted McConnell and other leaders of a group known as the ´big six´ to discuss tax reform. If was the first time the two men had spoken since an angry phone call where Trump reportedly complained about the Russia investigation, following McConnell´s comments to his constituents that Trump was still learning about the pace of the Democratic process. McConnell was seated at Trump´s left during the meeting, with House Speaker Paul Ryan on his right. During a June meeting, it was

Hurricane Irma strengthened into a powerful Category 4 storm on Monday forcing Florida to be declared a state of emergency. Florida Governor Rick Scott declared the state of emergency for all 67 counties in the state on Monday after some forecasts showed the powerful storm could be headed for the East Coast. A Democrat congressman is threatening to subpoena the White House over a draft of a letter President Donald Trump wrote regarding firing former FBI director James Comey. Adam Schiff, the ranking representative of the minority members of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, said he believes there could be evidence to support that the president attempted to obstruct justice in his reasoning for Comey´s ousting. Schiff, who represents California, told CNN host Dana Bash: ´It´s probably far past time for our committee to subpoena the White House to make sure we get all relevant documents.´ The House Intelligence Committee has requested notes,
North Korea´s latest nuclear weapons test has renewed fears of a devastating electro-magnetic pulse, or EMP, attack that could wipe out electrical grids across the US. For the first time, North Korea specifically mentioned the possibility of an EMP attack on the US following Sunday´s test of a 100-kiloton weapon, which the regime claims is a thermonuclear bomb. The weapon could wipe out much of a city, but the pulse from a high-altitude blast could sow chaos and destruction far wider. North Korea´s state news agency warned that the weapon ´is a multifunctional thermonuclear nuke with great destructive power which can be detonated
A federal judge ordered the FBI to make public grand jury subpoenas they obtained relating to their investigation of Hillary Clinton´s secret email. US District Judge James E. Boasberg on Thursday said the FBI must disclose more details about how it handled Clinton´s email account and specifically the subpoenas the FBI obtained to compel information from Clinton´s internet service providers. The Trump administration had objected to making the information public as they said in doing so it would violate grand jury secrecy rules. ´After reviewing the document in camera, the court concludes that it largely rehashes information already made public, thus obviating
She still doesn’t get it. In her forthcoming memoir ‘What Happened” (out Tuesday), Hillary Clinton takes perfunctory responsibility for losing the election before spending nearly 500 pages blaming: Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, “rash FBI director” James Comey, Obama, the Russians, sexism, and, finally, the American people for not liking her enough. Sanders, she writes, had the gall to run against her even though he’s not a Democrat. “That’s not a smear, that’s what he says,” she writes. “He didn’t get into the race to make sure a Democrat won the White House, he got in to disrupt the Democratic Party.” Clinton bemoans the sexism
President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell´s tête-à-tête on Tuesday — after a summer of sniping between the two — lifted Republican hopes that the GOP was finally back in sync ahead of a brutal fall of fiscal deadlines. Not 24 hours later, the president cut a deal with Democrats on a short-term debt ceiling increase opposed by McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan. Just Wednesday morning, in fact, Ryan had scoffed at the Democratic offer that Trump accepted minutes later. In the aftermath, Republicans seethed privately and distanced themselves publicly from the deal.
(Video) - Hillary Clinton said Thursday that she was devastated and drained after her loss to Donald Trump in 2016, but regained her strength by relying on a mix of prayer, yoga and “my fair share of Chardonnay.” Clinton, speaking at an event focused on her faith at New York’s Riverside Church, said she did not think she was going to lose heading into Election Day and was entirely thrown by the defeat. To get through it, Clinton said, she turned inward, relying on her “internal resources” and the support of her family and friends. (Snip) And, in a light moment, Clinton added, “Yes, I had my fair share of Chardonnay.”
The Trump Justice Department has once again cleared former IRS senior executive Lois G. Lerner of criminal liability stemming from the tea party targeting. In a letter to top Republicans, Assistant Attorney General Stephen E. Boyd said they re-reviewed the case and concluded there isn’t enough evidence to charge Ms. Lerner, who was at the center of the targeting. Mr. Boyd said the new review included lawyers who only recently joined the department and weren’t part of the Obama administration’s earlier decision. “After this process, the Department determined that reopening the investigation would not be
In an interview with Channel 4, a British public service television network, American actress Jennifer Lawrence blamed the recent hurricanes on Donald Trump’s voters, because they don´t believe in man-made climate change. During the lengthy interview on her new movie Mother!, the conversation turned political about halfway through. After discussing the alleged pay gap between men and women, the interviewer asked Lawrence about climate change and the political climate in America. “I mean when the director was asked about the film, why it was so dark, he said, ‘It’s a mad time to be alive.’ And there is certainly an
Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh has taken a ton of heat over the past few days for essentially claiming that the warnings over Hurricane Irma — a massive Category 5 storm heading right for Florida — were related to a broader “deep state” conspiracy to promote climate change, force people to buy bottled water and increase the news media’s ratings. During his radio program yesterday, Limbaugh remained defiant, claiming that media accusations that he was placing people in danger by spreading conspiracy theories were completely untrue. And yet, at the same time, he doubled down on what he previously had said,
Former Republican presidential candidate and Ohio Governor John Kasich expressed distaste in President Trump’s plan to repeal the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and invited all immigrants to come live in his state. Kasich was in a particularly fiery mood on CBS This Morning Wednesday, and when asked if he supports Trump’s decision, he laughed incredulously: “No! Can you imagine that we’re taking kids who came here, you know, they had nothing to do with the fact that they were brought here? They’ve become a very significant part of our society… and now we put them in jeopardy.” “We want them in
In the beginning of the 2016 presidential race, most conservatives like myself, had their own favorites and very few considered Donald Trump as one. Mine was Rick Perry followed by Marco Rubio once Gov. Perry dropped out. As the race proceeded and Trump continued to mow them all down, I was dismayed at how the debates seemed to be fixed by the GOP establishment and the media. Then a strange thing happened. I started listening to what Donald Trump was saying during his campaign. My brother Joe who was battling late stage cancer called me up one night speaking enthusiastically about how
Hillary Clinton has added another name her long list of grievances about those who cost her the election, this time singling out energized anti-Trump women marchers for failing to deliver before her historic loss. WASHINGTON — Virginia Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine says he does not know much about so-called members of “antifascist” (Antifa) groups but says it is unfair to paint them with a broad brush. When asked by The Daily Caller Thursday if Antifa should be considered a terrorist organization, Kaine replied: “I don’t like broad brushes and I don’t know enough about them to say that they’re terrorists but people who do violent things. The law should take care of them.” The Department of Homeland Security has called the activities of Antifa “domestic terrorist violence,” according to Politico. Kaine’s son, Linwood, was
Vanity Fair, which previously featured Melania Trump on one of its covers, snubbed the First Lady of the United States in its 2017 best-dressed list – while featuring numerous liberals, including both Obamas. The list, comprised of over 40 people, is broken into eight-sections: Women, Men, Hollywood, Originals, Couples, Professionals, Special Citation, and Hall Of Fame. Missing from the list was First Lady Melania Trump, which is odd to say the least, given that Vanity Fair featured her on the cover of the Mexican edition of the magazine in January.
Protesters rallied Tuesday against the Trump administration´s plan to end a program that protects young undocumented immigrants from deportation. "We are here because I am angry.
