College student dies after
mysterious incident at pool in Mexico

A Wisconsin family is still searching for answers six months after a 20-year-old woman suffered a mysterious fatal injury in a swimming pool in Mexico. Abbey Conner, 20, and her older brother Austin were both found face down in the pool at the Iberostar Paraiso del Mar resort just hours after arriving, despite the fact that they were strong swimmers. (Snip) Austin, who is 6-foot-2, told the Journal Sentinel that he and his sister had four or five tequila shots. He said they also did a shot with a group of guys at the bar, and did not know what

Comments:
Tragic death. But she downed ´4 or 5´ tequila shots plus one more with a group of guys in a short period of time. Not so mysterious.

Stopped reading at "after four or five tequila shots".....

Life is all about choices, and that is a seriously, in this case, fatally, stupid choice. especially for a woman. The 6´2" guy lived - purely on body mass, no doubt. The smaller female, smaller body mass, you do the math.

While everyone is hysterical over opioids (as they should be) we had better get a grip about the alcohol abuse that goes on in this country. Alcohol killed my father, his sister and their parents. It can kill you quick like this young foolish woman or it can drain you year after year until your body can no longer deal with it. I am sorry she passed the way she did but I am wondering if the parents are simply in denial. They cannot handle the thought of their daughter getting stone drunk and dying in an accident she was culpable in.

With a BAC of .25, she did a lot more than "4 or 5 shots" no matter what her brother claimed. Nobody drugged their drinks; they just passed out in the pool. Dumb stunts can be deadly.

#4, no expert here, I quit drinking decades ago, but I found a BAC calculator online, may be accurate, who knows? With weight of 100 lbs, and drinking time of 1 hour, it took 6 shots of hard liquor to get to a female to .25 BAC.

So, you maybe right. No idea what her weight was, but a majority of American females no longer weigh even close to 100 lbs these days.

If she weighed 150 lbs, calculator says it would take 9 shots., at 175 lbs, 10 shots gets to 0.24 BAC.

That is an insane amount of shots for anyone.

It takes a while for alcohol to absorb into your bloodstream so when young adults down shots, they may have too much in their stomachs before they even realize it. Shots are foolish. Guzzling anything is foolish. And young women have got to stop drinking like men. I am glad that this family didn´t lose both their children.

After reading about this yesterday, I starting doing some research on Americans killed/dying in Mexican Resort areas. It´s rather shocking. The corruption with the police, hospitals, doctors is insane. After reading what the goes down while in that country, I will never visit there again.

Great comments all. So sorry #3 for your losses; has to be painful for you to post it, thank you.

I will not avoid Mexico (I like the place) because of this, the same way I would not count out Aruba because Natalie Holloway suffered a nasty death. I am so sorry for the parents to have so much suffering because their children were irresponsible, and the parents have to be looking at themselves, I hope. I will avoid neither country because somebody drank too much at a most inappropriate time.

One day young people who make it through unharmed will understand that there were many occasions when they could have made many mistakes. Lucky. Those young people as parents will be watchful of their offspring.

CARACAS- The U.S. government ordered family members of employees at its embassy in Venezuela to leave on Thursday as a political crisis deepened ahead of a controversial vote critics contend will end democracy in the oil-rich country. Violence continued to rage on the street, with another five people killed during the latest opposition-led strike against President Nicolas Maduro´s planned election for a powerful new Constituent Assembly on Sunday. Adding to Venezuela´s growing international isolation, Colombian airline Avianca suddenly stopped operations in the country on Thursday due to "operational and security limitations." A group of Iowa businessmen filed a lawsuit Wednesday against United Airlines over the death of a giant rabbit after a flight from London to Chicago. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages to cover the costs of the rabbit as well as punitive damages. Attorney Guy Cook represents three

On a sweltering evening in a rural corner of Ohio, the struggle for the soul and identity of the Democratic Party is playing out over wine, meatballs and recriminations about Hillary Clinton’s defeat in last year’s presidential election. As I wrote last week, my broad read on American public opinion on "social issues" is that most people are in favor of inclusion, but that most people dislike being told that they ought to change what they, personally, are doing. So naturally there have been efforts by social conservatives to frame transgender rights issues as being not about inclusion but about imposition on the broader public: That people are trying to make you or your child share a bathroom with someone of a different sex. But I don´t think this is winning over the public. Polling from the Public Religion Research

A young Muslim woman who was reportedly kidnapped, raped and murdered in a suspected “honour killing” in London posted a positive tweet thanking God for “everything” just days before her death. Celine Dookhran, 19, was found stuffed in a fridge with her throat slit after a second woman who was also attacked raised the alarm from her hospital bed, a court heard on Tuesday. The two women were said to have been bound, gagged and kidnapped by masked men on Wednesday. They were taken to a house in Kingston-upon-Thames, south-west London, where they were both raped and Ms Dookhran was killed.

On Wednesday night, I received a phone call from Anthony Scaramucci, the new White House communications director. He wasn’t happy. Earlier in the night, I’d tweeted, citing a “senior White House official,” that Scaramucci was having dinner at the White House with President Trump, the First Lady, Sean Hannity, and the former Fox News executive Bill Shine. It was an interesting group, and raised some questions. Was Trump getting strategic advice from Hannity? Was he considering hiring Shine? But Scaramucci had his own question—for me. “Who leaked that to you?” he asked. I said I couldn’t give him that information.
