California´s Judicial Council racial

If anyone needed proof that California is overlarded with do-nothing, malevolent bureaucrats, maybe the Judicial Council´s Halloween party, which featured racial sensitivity bosses dressed in blackface and turning their cubicles into jail cells is just that example. And sure enough, it´s an agency that oversees racial sensitivity programs for California´s court system. Michael Roosevelt is a 20-year employee at the Judicial Council. Its mission -- to advance "the consistent, impartial, independent, and accessible administration of justice". Roosevelt was hired to develop bias education programs for court employees and judges, and he was shocked by photos of a Halloween party at the

Corruption: A sitting U.S. Senator is currently on trial for bribery, and if he´s found guilty it could have major political ramifications. Haven´t heard about this case? That´s because the Senator in question is a Democrat. A CNN story this week about the opening of the trial against New Jersey Sen. Robert Menendez noted that "Democrats are eager to avoid the subject of Menendez´s bribery trial." That headline would have been just as accurate if it said "Reporters" instead of "Democrats." Menendez in on trial for allegedly having sold his office in exchange for luxury vacations, private flights, and piles of campaign cash.

Agenda: Less than two weeks after Hurricane Harvey made landfall, the House passed an $8 billion bill to help the Houston region recover. So Republicans in Congress can get things done quickly, just not when it comes to enacting a conservative agenda. At a retreat for Republican lawmakers back in January, Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and House Speaker Paul Ryan laid out an ambitious agenda they planned to achieve in their first 200 days — before the Senate would go on its monthlong break in August. They would: Repeal and replace ObamaCare, pass a sweeping tax reform, fund the border wall,

Rule Of Law: What happens when the president of the United States decides to uphold the Constitution´s separation of powers and appropriately defers to Congress on immigration law? If his name is Donald Trump, everyone has a nervous breakdown. At a news conference on Tuesday, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that President Trump was rescinding Obama´s "Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals," an executive order that let young people in the country illegally apply to get a renewable two-year work authorization and other benefits, including participating in Social Security. Obama enacted DACA in June 2012 after Congress failed to pass immigration reforms he

President Trump´s approval rating hit 38% in the latest IBD/TIPP poll after what pundits routinely described as a terrible month for the president. While still low, that represents a six-point gain over the previous month. Regionally, Trump´s gains were strongest in the South, where his approval jumped 13 points to 48%. He firmed up support among Republicans as well, with an 8-point increase to 79%. He gained 14 points among those with a high school education, 10 points among conservatives, 7 points with white men, and 4 points among those living in rural parts of the country. What´s more, Trump gained 12%

Global Warming: When a controversial climatologist claims Hurricane Harvey´s brutal downpour that devastated Houston is a result of global warming, it warrants examining the claim. We have, and it appears baseless. But that won´t stop climate-change extremists from making that claim again in the future. First, a little background. Penn State meteorology professor Michael Mann has gained dubious renown for something no scientist desires: fiddling with data, and getting caught. In this case, it was temperature data. Mann´s famous "hockey stick" rendition of temperature and climate changes makes it appear as if temperatures began rising sharply in the 19th century as carbon

Sometime in September, Sen. Bernie Sanders plans to unveil his "Medicare for all" bill, which would have the government pay 100% of the nation´s entire health care costs. Sanders, like all of his kindred single-payer advocates, claims that every other industrialized country in the world provides guaranteed universal coverage, and has lower health costs and better health outcomes as a result. But what Sanders and Co. never, ever, say is that those countries also require their citizens to pay a far bigger share of health care dollars out of pocket than the U.S. does today, or that most of them

Tax Reform: It´s been clear from our economy´s near-decade of underperformance that the U.S. is badly in need of a fiscal shot in the arm in the form of tax reform and tax cuts. After his speech to factory workers in Springfield, Mo., on Wednesday, President Trump has made it clear he expects Congress to do something big. Calling on Congress not to miss a "once-in-a-generation opportunity," Trump pushed for a massive tax overhaul that, he promised, would cut loopholes and simplify the tax code from its current labyrinthine complexity into one that is "simple, fair and easy to understand." It cannot be overstated how eagerly the Democrats want to take back the White House in 2020. They were the lopsided votes in the House and Senate in support of the deal President Trump made with Democratic leaders on storm aid, the debt limit and government funding. Remarkably, all the no voters were Republicans. The numbers shout that we are witnessing a potential turning point in the Trump presidency, one that could further shake up Washington and rattle the calcified political parties. Frustrated by the failure of GOP majorities in both chambers to pass his agenda, Trump followed through on threats to work with Democrats. Signs suggest it was

The news that President Trump abandoned Republicans to strike a deal with congressional Democrats on a three-month extension of the debt limit yielded a predictable response from his predictable cheerleaders: It was brilliant and typically shrewd for the author of “The Art of the Deal” to take the very first offer the Democrats made and ask for nothing in return. Less obsequious observers on the right claimed this was the long-prophesied moment. The seventh seal had been broken. Donald Trump was “pivoting” at last. “The pivot is real and it’s spectacular!” proclaimed Ben Domenech, the publisher of The Federalist. In the lexicon
