Fashion Notes: Melania Trump Wears
Custom Red-White-and-Blue Frock
For Dinner in Paris

First Lady Melania Trump radiated atop the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, where she and President Donald Trump ate dinner Thursday night with French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte. Melania, always one for custom-made high fashion frocks, wore a bespoke Hervé Pierre red, white and navy blue cocktail dress for the formal dinner, paired with black stilettos and perfectly tousled hair. The dress takes inspiration from the Americana and French flags, but also is unusual in its bodice origami-like detailing, which resembles a basket of wheat. She looked fabulous in it, and I´m sure that she paid for it herself!

Unlike the previous occupant of that position, that dressed looking like a couch half the time, and used our money to pay for the awful clothing to boot...

I don´t like this dress. The white leaves are completely out of place. The whole thing just doesn´t blend.

#2, the leaves threw me off balance as well. However, the lady is given 10 bonus points, noting that the belt is worn in the proper position and no longer used to bind the bosom.
She is fortunate in having a waist, unlike others who might have found difficulty locating same.

I actually liked the dress. I did, however, like the red suit more, and thought she looked lovely with her hair pulled up. I am not a fan of her hairstyle. She has a beautiful face and it is hidden behind the hair that falls toward her face. While I like her long hair I would like to see it pushed back off her face more. She is one class act though. Not a hint of frump about her. She is always appropriate and elegant.

This dress had the same effect on me as the navy Delpozo with the hot pink stripes and bizarre orange design she wore in Poland. Both took some getting used to but were at least striking, memorable choices. I like them.

Love the dress. And it´s not the first time that Melania has worn a dress with a 3 dimensional neckline. She probably helped to design this one too.

Meanwhile, Bridget looks like she has an eating disorder.

What goes around comes around. I wore a dress almost identical to that sans the white leaves and shoulder straps in the 60´s. Of course, that dates me but at this stage of my life, I am proud of being a senior citizen. She is lovely and an asset to America and Pres. Trump.

When I look at Melania, I see three women. The smoldering beauty of Sophia Loren, the cool grace and dignity of Grace Kelly, and the humility of Audrey Hepburn. Yeah, I´m of that era. And if I too may be a little catty, Michael´s waist couldn´t have been located by a Congressional Committee---er, make that one that COULD actually find something.

I am highly amused that in the country that gave the world the very expression "haute couture" it is our FLOTUS who is the epitome of fashion and style. The wife of its current president pales mightily by comparison.

One note on the dress (and many other of Melania´s fashion choices): classic fashion never goes out of style.

I had been wondering about something. Why did Macron’s wife Brigitte wear only Vuitton. From Day One of her appearance at his victory party, she was in Vuitton from head to toe, including clothes, accessories, handbags and shoes.

Here is the answer from an article that appeared about the time of Macron’s inauguration (Macron’s wife goes by her former name, Trogneux):

During the campaign, some questioned Trogneux’s habit of wearing designer outfits in light of public outrage over conservative presidential candidate François Fillon accepting a gift of two suits from luxury tailor Arnys worth 13,000 euros, or $14,210, from a lawyer with close links to African leaders during the election campaign.

Candice Nedelec, coauthor with Caroline Derrien of “The Macrons,” published by Fayard, raised the subject with Trogneux in a lengthy interview on the campaign trail. “She said that designers loaned her the clothes and that she always returns them, and that it was her way of honoring French design. But she added that if [it] became damaging to her husband, she would stop wearing them,” reported Nedelec.

The Vuitton outfit was loaned to France’s new First Lady for the inauguration, according to sources.

Although the father of psychoanalysis is no longer fashionable, the Freudian concept of psychological projection is alive and well. “I think he’s crazy,” said Sen.
