Lawmakers are planning to introduce legislation next week to grant lawful permanent residence to a terminally ill infant. “Our bill will support Charlie’s parents’ right to choose what is best for their son, by making Charlie a lawful permanent resident in the U.S. in order for him to receive treatments that could save his life,” Reps. Brad Wenstrup, R-Ohio, and Trent Franks, R-Ariz., said in a joint statement Friday. Charlie is an 11-month-old British baby with an uncommon genetic condition that keeps him from breathing without help. He is also deaf and blind, according to USA Today. “Despite Charlie’s heartbreaking condition,
OK, this is a charitable situation, not something of national concern. It´s being handled, and these representatives of the people need to do what they were sent to Washington to do, and that´s revoke Obamacare, secure the borders and fix the economy. I hope that doesn´t sound heartless, but President Trump has already stepped in, so these legislators need to do the job they were elected to do!
Charlie´s prospects are certainly not very good - but they are still prospects. The actions of this "death panel" are the moral equivalent of aborting fetuses with Down syndrome, or killing child Helen Keller, or euthanizing Alzheimers patients - in their own "best interests". This is the purview of God, not humans.
#1´s comments notwithstanding: protecting parents rights are at the heart of the matter, and well withing the purview and responsibility of Congress. They can "walk and chew gum".
That´s touching and admirable, but why are they introducing legislature concerning this baby? This will lead to something they did not intend. We all pray for that child to get life saving medical care.
No one knows about Baby Steffen in TN that the courts pulled the plug on. That baby was important too.
NEWARK— U.S. District Court Judge William H. Walls told a lawyer for Sen. Robert Menendez to "shut up for a moment" as the two engaged in a heated argument during the first moments of the New Jersey Democrat´s corruption trial. Shortly after court proceedings began, defense attorney Raymond Brown criticized Judge William H. Walls for a line in his opinion on Friday that rejected Menendez’s request that the trial be recessed on days where the Senate is taking “critical” votes, so that the senator can be in Washington. “Quite frankly, your honor, that language is extremely prejudicial to the defense
Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer called ending DACA “heartless” on Tuesday, but in 2009 he expressed a very different message on illegal immigration. During a speech at the Immigration Law & Policy Conference at Georgetown Law, Schumer repeatedly argued that immigration reform should focus on encouraging legal immigration and should make clear that “illegal immigration is wrong.” “The American people are fundamentally pro-legal immigration and anti-illegal immigration,” Schumer explained at the conference. “We will only pass comprehensive reform when we recognize this fundamental concept.” “The following seven principles are all based on this concept and comprise what I believe to be
More bad news for Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton is launching a book on the memoir of her experience as the Democratic Party’s nominee for president. In November 2016 Hillary got shellacked by Donald Trump in the US election by 77 electoral votes – 304 to 227. As Hillary Clinton readies herself for her much hyped book tour a new poll may dampen her enthusiasm. Just 30% of Americans approve of Hillary Clinton today. (Tweet) After seven months of non-stop media attacks President Trump is still leading Hillary Clinton — by 10 points! President Trump holds a 40% approval rating in
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders was confronted over the Trump administration´s decision to rescind the Obama era executive action DACA or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. NBC News White House correspondent Kristen Welker challenged the administration´s decision. “The president vowed to treat DREAMers with ´great heart,´” Welker said. “How is this treating them with ´great heart´?” Sanders responded: "I think by allowing an orderly process to take place. You know, there´s a lot of people that I´ve seen attacking the president for not showing the level of compassion that they feel like he should. To me, the most
The Washington National Cathedral will remove two stained glass windows featuring Confederate Gens. Robert E. Lee and Stonewall Jackson, the church said Wednesday, joining a growing list of cities and institutions that have removed statues of Confederate figures in the wake of last month´s violence in Charlottesville, Va. The National Cathedral said the Cathedral Chapter, its governing body, voted Tuesday to immediately take the windows down. Scaffolding was erected Wednesday morning as crews began the process of removing the stained glass windows, according to the Washington Post. The windows of Lee and Jackson were installed in 1953, and the National
The House on Wednesday passed an $8 billion Hurricane Harvey relief package, sending it to the Senate where GOP leaders planned to attach a measure to increase the debt ceiling. The House passed the measure easily in a 419-3 vote. Only three Republicans voted against it in apparent protest of the lack of any spending cut offsets: Reps. Justin Amash of Michigan, Andy Biggs of Arizona and Tom Massie of Kentucky. House lawmakers approved the Harvey measure as the Federal Emergency Management Agency warned its disaster relief budget is about to run dry as it looks to aid people in
NEW YORK- The share of Americans who identify as white and Christian has dropped below 50 percent, a transformation fueled by immigration and by growing numbers of people who reject organized religion altogether, according to a new survey released Wednesday. Christians overall remain a large majority in the U.S., at nearly 70 percent of Americans. However, white Christians, once predominant in the country´s religious life, now comprise only 43 percent of the population, according to the Public Religion Research Institute, or PRRI, a polling organization based in Washington. Four decades ago, about eight in 10 Americans were white Christians. The
Entertainer Steve Harvey recalls how he came to work with Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Ben Carson to develop educational programs for inner city youth, thanks to the help of then-President-Elect Donald Trump. Harvey accepted an invitation from Trump and met with the president-elect back in January. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Harvey recalls the meeting – and how he told Trump that, even though he campaigned for Hillary Clinton, he wanted to help President Trump: “We talked about golf for 20 minutes. And then I told him, ‘Mr. President, I´m going to be honest with you,
Stanley Fischer, the number two official at the Federal Reserve, unexpectedly submitted his resignation Wednesday, citing "personal reasons." The vice chairman´s resignation, effective Oct. 13, will allow President Trump to replace him at the central bank three-quarters of a year ahead of schedule. Fischer likely would have been an obstacle to Trump´s ambitions for cutting back regulations on banks, as he described the effort to loosen rules on big banks as "very, very dangerous" last month. Already, Trump faced a major task in choosing the next chairman of the Fed before February and replacing most of the central bank´s Board
Texas is currently recovering from the horrific effects of Hurricane Harvey. The state has been ravaged by deadly storms and flooding that has left thousands of Texans displaced. The people of Texas have proven resilient. Stories of bravery and selflessness abound, and heroes have been made ordinary citizens helping each other. One of those people is Jennifer Lopez Fuller. Fuller is a food writer and foodie based in Houston. Fuller has donated her skills and time to helping people affected by the flood get food where and when they need it. Illegal Aliens and their supporters held a demonstration Tuesday in New York City in front of Trump Tower. The far left crowd shut down traffic as they always do. At least 30 people were arrested including 9 illegal aliens. Including these three illegals. (Photos/Tweet) They were carrying AmeriKKKa signs. They think America is country of white supremacists but want in anyway. (Tweet) CosechaMedia reported on the protest: New York, NY- 34 were arrested today in multiple waves of civil disobedience actions blocking 5th avenue in front of Trump Tower. The first wave of arrests occurred this morning around 11:30 AM
Electoral prognosticators failed miserably last November. The smart set in the media establishment predicted a landslide win for Hillary Clinton. For an amusing review, here is a video montage of their smug certainty. On what did they base their certainty? Bogus polls oversampling Democrat voters? Or projection of their wishes and fantasies that Donald Trump would be smacked down in big league fashion? We all know how that turned out. Just as the old quote predicted, “Wish in one hand, crap in the other, and see which fills up first.” Obviously political pundits needed more than their wishes to avoid
As most of the nation celebrates the volunteerism so evident in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, a sense of disquiet seems to be afoot among fans of Big Government. People who spontaneously organize impressive responses might make the public feel as though government doesn’t have all the answers, and that self-reliance beats waiting for the government to solve their problems. Why, that´s troubling. Something like this mental process must have prompted New Yorker editor David Remnick to greenlight this article, titled, “Why does American need the Cajun Navy?” Benjamin Wallace-Wells (you already guessed the author would have a hyphenated last name,
The American Civil Liberties Union is warning President Trump that only Congress can authorize a military strike on North Korea as tensions with Pyongyang continue to run hot. “The American Civil Liberties Union strongly urges you to uphold the Constitution, and the fundamental principle of separation of powers, by recognizing the sole authority of Congress to declare war — and to refrain from the use of force against North Korea in the absence of explicit congressional authorization for the use of force,” the group wrote in a letter to Trump on Tuesday. “This drumbeat of threats over the past several
Former First Lady Michelle Obama recreated Beyonce’s “Formation” look for the singer’s birthday Monday, despite the fact some police groups have labeled the music video anti-cop. Obama, Serena Williams, Kelly Rowland, and other celebrities took photographs donning the pigtail braids, black hat, and statement necklace from the “Formation” music video. The song has faced controversy from police groups because of images highlighted in the music video, including Beyonce standing on a sinking police cruiser in the intro. The video also features a wall that reads, “stop shooting us,” and shows a child dancing in front of police officers who are
Last week, Senators Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) released news that they’d found evidence that in April and May 2016, then-FBI Director James Comey prepared a statement letting former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton off the hook for her alleged mistreatment of classified information. As the senators noted, “As of early May 2016, the FBI had not yet interviewed Secretary Clinton. Moreover, it had yet to finish interviewing sixteen other key witnesses, including Cheryl Mills, Bryan Pagliano, Heather Samuelson, Justin Cooper and John Bentel. These individuals had intimate and personal knowledge relating to Secretary Clinton’s non-government server, including
Newly disclosed evidence that then-FBI Director James Comey began working on a statement to reject criminal charges against former Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton months before she and other key witnesses were interviewed by the FBI shows that President Trump was right to fire Comey. The evidence proves that Trump and his supporters were correct to say throughout the presidential campaign that Washington operates on a “rigged” crony system that serves the interests of the powerful and rewards corporate globalists to the detriment of the American people. As evidence of the rigged system, voters sided with Trump during the campaign in often
She chose a boyfriend outside of her family´s strict regime, and paid with her life by being tortured to death by her father, uncle and cousins and unceremoniously dumped in a suitcase. Banaz Mahmod was raped, tortured and strangled with a length of plastic cord at her parents´ home in a brutal honour killing after her family felt she had "shamed" them by divorcing her arranged marriage husband and choosing her own partner. The Kurdish 20-year-old had even heard her family discussing the plot to kill her and her boyfriend at a ´family war council´ and had delivered a handwritten
The belief that humans came out of Africa millions of years ago is widely believed. But it might be about to be entirely re-written, according to the authors of a new study. They claim to have found a footprint in Crete that could change the narrative of early human evolution, suggesting that our ancestors were in modern Europe far earlier than we ever thought. The accepted story of the human lineage has been largely set since researchers found fossils of our early ancestors in South and East Africa, in the middle of the 20th century. Later discoveries appeared to suggest that those
Former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is blaming Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) for doing “lasting damage” to her campaign and “paving the way” for President Trump’s attack against her as “Crooked Hillary.” According to excerpts of Clinton’s new campaign tell-all book, “What Happened,” Clinton claims that she wanted to fight back against Sanders’s characterization of her as beholden to corporate influence but that then-President Obama and others advised her to stay quiet. “Throughout the primaries, every time I wanted to hit back against Bernie’s attacks, I was told to restrain myself,” Clinton writes. “Noting that his plans didn’t add up, that they
Better a million dead North Koreans than a thousand dead Americans. The fundamental reason our government exists is to protect our people and our territory. Everything else is a grace note. And the words we never should hear in regard to North Korea’s nuclear threats are “We should’ve done something.” Instead, we should do something. Pyongyang’s Sunday test of a hydrogen bomb of devastating power begs for decisive action. Must we wait until Americans die? A preemptive strike against Kim Jong-un’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs would be a terrible thing, demanding a vast military effort (if done properly)
Hillary Clinton promoted a new media platform Sunday that ostensibly collects and verifies facts. The website, called Verrit, advertises itself as a portal that "contextualizes noteworthy facts, stats, and quotes for politically engaged citizens." The site´s mantra, touted at the top of every page, is "Media for the 65.8 million," a reference to the popular-vote total Clinton received in the 2016 presidential election. Almost immediately after Clinton tweeted in support of the site on Sunday evening, it was hit with a denial-of-service attack, forcing the site offline for several hours. In an interview Monday, Verrit founder and CEO Peter Daou
Canadian negotiators are demanding the United States roll back so-called "right to work" laws – accused of gutting unions in some U.S. states by starving them of money – as part of the renegotiation of the North American free-trade agreement. The request is part of a push by Ottawa to get the U.S. and Mexico to adopt higher labour standards under the deal. Mexico, meanwhile, is campaigning to include its oil and gas sector in the deal. These major moves on the labour and energy files came over the weekend at the second round of NAFTA renegotiations in Mexico City. One group
Everyone knows that former President Barack Obama, our Great American Constitutional Law Professor, got mercilessly schooled by the Supreme Court during his eight years in office. Now he is getting schooled by a brash-talking, orange-haired reality-TV star and real-estate developer from Queens. I mean, this is humiliating. And so delicious to watch! President Trump never took a single law class — at least not that we know of. Because if he had, Mr. Trump would surely find a way to remind us every time he wanted to strut his legal stuff. Anyway, Trump University didn’t even have a law school. Yet, Mr. Trump
