Donald Trump has reportedly had trouble getting a hotel room for the upcoming G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany. His team apparently waited too long to book accommodations for the President and his travelling staff and were told none of the major hotels had vacancies, Buzzfeed reported. The local newspaper Hamburger Abendblatt reported that the Four Seasons had to turn him away as they were full. In an ironic twist for the hotel chain owner, every luxury hotel in town seemed to be booked up. There do not appear to be any Trump-owned properties in the northern German city. Buzzfeed did some digging and
FTA: This is not the first time a US official has had trouble with hotels in Germany.
What kind of people do make certain there are enough accommodations for the visiting dignitaries? The more I read about the German people, the less respect I have for them. And I thought the French were snots.
I agree, something´s totally peculiar about this story. If it did happen, Trump would´ve been tweeting all night that he had rented out an entire American brand, the more basic the better. Any Motel 6´s near Hamburg?
So the Secret Service members never checked out the room before the president arrived. Therefore not even the. SS knew where the room was and did not escort PRESIDENT Trump to his room. If so then we need to hire responsible people who do their job as SS.
Could it possibly be that PDT needed to stay in a different location than all the other dignitaries for security reasons? There are lots of very smart people in his administration. I don´t think someone made a mistake. I think this is by design.
Think about how people perceive us when the Fake News industry constructs the image of Americans. I won´t jump to any conclusions regarding the common folk in Germany.
But make no mistake, the mob of leftists destroying Western civilization are the same people be they in DC, Portland, Chicago, London, Hamburg, you name it. Frankly its startling, this is a global Dr. Evil movement.
Would think the Germans are responsible for providing rooms since they are also responsible for security. This smells like a manufactured story where they are trying to make the Trump administration look inept.
The pettiness of the left on display is more accurate.
Totally agree with #1. I suspect the Merkel dame is behind this. Merkel is that ugly thing who wears the same non fitting beige pants with same red jacket. In the group shot, the Merkel thing parks herself in front, our President way to the side as if the US is some little country and May is all the way in the back. No one puts a US president so far from the host. Might have been done due to a tip from the Mulatto!
HH does not have a Fours Seasons any longer, it has been sold some time ago. Hamburg is a lefty town on the par with Moscow. Smart of the First Lady to remain inside. The no class trash might pelt her with something.
Chances are the hotel reservations for all the foreign leaders who were expected to attend the long scheduled G-20 Summit in Hamburg, Germany were made long before President Trump was elected.
In that respect there is little doubt that when the Department of State made the reservations for the US delegation, that they expected that Hillary Clinton would be leading the US Delegation. Don´t be surprised if Obama Administration operatives did not cancel the reservations after President Trump was elected and before they left office.
This disruption is on the wimpy German Government. They knew that the President of the USA was going to attend the G-20 Summit in Hamburg with the First Lady. By not ensuring that the President and First Lady had appropriate and safe accommodations in Hamburg the German Government essentially insulted the USA.
International media is reporting that the First Lady was unable to leave her accommodations today to attend the scheduled events for the world leaders spouses that all the other spouses were able to attend, after the German Government advised the USA that they could not guarantee the safety of her motorcade from violent anarchist demonstrators. All that is not good.
What ever happened to the old courtesy of maintaining a "presidential suite" for unexpected but important guests? And what about the Bridle Suite? Or how about bumping someone of lesser importance to make room for the Trumps. If the Hamburgers and the German government choose to disrespect our President, then they should know that we can also disrespect them, and a great deal more severely.
Don´t we have a US base in Hamburg? Or an embassy? I don´t buy it that the staff in charge of booking travel accommodations for the President left it until the last minute. That is their whole reason for existence, so they aren´t going to leave it.
What I do buy is that the Germans are pulling a fast and nasty one. Merkel is too stupid to realize that this is making her look really bad.
Winter is coming for the North. Last year, three states in the Northeast — New Jersey, New York and Connecticut — landed in the top five places people were moving out of fastest, according to 2017 data from United Van Lines. (The other two states on the list were Illinois and Kansas.) And data from Pew Charitable Trusts found that while people are all about moving to the South (their population grew by nearly 1.4 million people from 2014 to 2015) and the West (866,000 more people), the population growth in the Northeast is “sluggish.” The Northeastern exodus is particularly
Whether it´s Mohammed becoming the most popular baby name, or one in 10 babies in England being Muslim or the fact that halal meat is being served in Pizza Hut, a Muslim story always tends to generate more heat than light. Indeed, Islamophobia is often perpetuated by fear and a sense that Muslims are taking over our jobs, our homes and our lives, thus leading to a polarizing society and the so-called clash of civilizations. Those words are the lede of a December 2014 opinion piece for CNN entitled "The Muslims Are Coming!´ Why Islamophobia is so dangerous." To the
Ed Morrissey wrote about this subject this morning, but there are a couple of other points I wanted to hit. Now, of course, Politico is reporting that the only reason Trump announced the ban was because it was a trade-off to get funding for the border wall in the next spending bill. (Snip)Is it true? Who knows anymore? It’s coming from yet more of the infamous “anonymous sources” inside the Beltway. But whether that was the reason or it was something else entirely, I’ll touch on a couple of points Ed brought up and add a few of my own.
The IRS has finally agreed to a process for deciding on the last remaining nonprofit application that was snared in the Obama administration’s tea party targeting, more than four years after the illegal singling-out of conservative groups for special scrutiny was first revealed. In court filings this week, the IRS acceded to rules governing how the tax agency will decide whether to grant nonprofit status to the Texas Patriots Tea Party, which has been awaiting a decision for years. The agreement doesn’t mean the group will be approved, but it sets up a process for making a decision. “This does provide a path
The FBI´s investigation into genital mutilation of girls, some as young as six-years-old, has expanded beyond the original case in Michigan where two doctors were arrested and indicted in April. Girls from Minnesota were taken to Michigan for "treatment" by their parents. A refresher on some of the details: The Department of Justice indicted and arrested Detroit emergency room doctor Jumana Nagarwala on multiple charges Thursday, alleging she performed a number of illegal female genital mutilations (FGM) from 2005 and 2017. Her victims are minor girls, some as young as six years old. “Despite her oath to care for her patients, Dr.
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- President Donald Trump, who has averaged 40% job approval since his inauguration, received approval ratings of 50% or higher in 17 states in the first half of 2017. Residents in an equal number of states gave him approval ratings below 40%. In 16 states, his ratings ranged between 40% and 49%. Consistent with the broader geographic patterns of Republican strength across the country, some of Trump´s highest approval ratings tend to be in Southern, Plains and Mountain West states. His lowest ratings are primarily in Northeast and West Coast states. The results are based on Gallup Daily
The Merchants of Misery — a.k.a., climate scientists — are working overtime to shame you about all the pleasures you’re enjoying this summer and how your selfish indulgences will cause the planet’s demise. Grilling your favorite cheeseburger? Glutton! Packing up your brood for a drive to the lake house? Monster! Hoping vacation sex will result in a new baby to add to the family? Hedonist! Even mowing your lawn earns a tsk-tsk. A study from Sweden’s Lund University published July 12 lists many of the sacrifices you should make to reduce your carbon footprint. Most of the media coverage —
I love reading about regional cultural variances. Typically these types of reports include the use of y’all vs. you all, or soda vs. pop. Dating app Hater matches date-seekers using a combination of location, age, and mutual hates. Hater asks users to rate their level of “like” on various subjects. They’ve compiled user data to produce a map of the U.S. illustrating the most hated (of the topics available) issue or thing in each state. The New York Times, bloggers, cheap coffee, sand, and being the designated driver top the most-hated things in a handful of states. (Snip for graphics)
President Trump, in clumsy responses to interview questions, has warned Special Counsel Robert Mueller that he´d best not expand his investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 election too far. It is strange, to put it no more strongly, to read such threats against the investigator by a president whose adminisitration is being investigated. It carries weight, for Trump has the authority to fire Mueller, but to do so would do incalculable damage to his presidency. Perhaps the only way for Trump to prevent an ever-expanding investigation, to keep things focused narrowly on questions of alleged collusion with Russia, and to
Returning after nearly three weeks in Europe, I am astonished by the prevailing political currents in the countries historically closest to Canada. In the United Kingdom, the government went for an increased majority against an absurd opposition leader who admires Irish and some Islamic terrorists and whose political heroes are Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez. As readers know, the result was a loss of the majority and the reconstitution of the government with the support of the Democratic Unionist Party. This was the arch-Protestant political movement of Northern Ireland, which has fortunately settled down a good deal since the piping
The USS Constitution, the world´s oldest commissioned warship still afloat, will return Sunday to Boston´s waters. The undocking of the "Old Ironsides" will mark the end of restoration work that started two years ago, officials said. A celebration will be held at the USS Constitution Museum. The wooden ship was launched in 1797 and earned its famous nickname notching victories in the War of 1812. "The ship has been the cornerstone of the Navy for a long time," said Robert Gerosa, the Constitution´s commanding officer. "To be a part of the ship is truly an honor."
LAS VEGAS -- A New Jersey man with a degree in accounting is this year´s World Series of Poker champion. Scott Blumstein won the series´ marquee no-limit Texas Hold ´em main event early Sunday in Las Vegas surrounded by dozens of supporters including relatives and college friends. He is now more than $8.1 million richer after eliminating Pennsylvania´s Daniel Ott on the 246th hand of the final table, more than 60 hands with just the two of them with bricks of bills and a gold bracelet separating them. "I´m really happy about how I played tonight," said Blumstein, who´s 25. "... This
The moderator lauded Michelle Obama for her achievements over the past eight years and touched on the former first lady’s plans, but Tuesday’s conversation also veered into uncomfortable territory. It was Obama’s largest public appearance since the 2016 election — speaking in front of more than 8,000 people at the Women’s Foundation of Colorado’s 30th anniversary celebration — and she touched on personal attacks that she faced again and again. Many had the same theme. “The shards that cut me the deepest were the ones that intended to cut,” Obama said, according to the Denver Post. “Knowing that after eight
Hillary Clinton is to call her new memoir about being beaten by Donald Trump ´What Happened´, her publisher announced Thursday. Her photograph will not feature on the cover - and she will call herself Hillary Rodham Clinton. She ran as Hillary Clinton. The memoir, published by Simon & Schuster promises to deliver the story of her defeat ´now free from the constraints of politics´. It will finally break the pattern of months by containing details of her ´mistakes´ - but firmly blame James Comey and the Russians. One friend of Clinton told The Hill it would be a ´bombshell´. The
At the end of a Senate subcommittee hearing on Tuesday morning, someone sitting near Chairman Susan Collins (R-Maine) didn’t switch off a microphone. Collins was recorded discussing the federal budget and President Trump’s lack of familiarity with the details of governing with a colleague — apparently Sen. Jack Reed (R.I.), the ranking Democrat on the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies subcommittee.
A transgender former Navy SEAL has spoken out against President Trump’s ban on transgender military members, saying he is preventing soldiers from doing their service. “Let´s meet face to face and you tell me I´m not worthy,” Kristin Beck, a retired SEAL Team 6 member who has fought in Iraq and Afghanistan, told Business Insider. Beck was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and the Meritorious Service Medal during her time in the service, when she kept her gender identity a secret, according to a 2015 profile in GQ. The President said that transgender service in the military causes
Former House IT staffer Imran Awan was arrested Monday night at Dulles International Airport where he was "trying to leave the country," Fox news reported Tuesday evening. Following his arrest for bank fraud, Awan was finally fired by Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla. (Snip) Imran and his Pakistani-born brothers, Abid and Jamal Awan, are currently under criminal investigation by U.S. Capitol Police and the FBI on suspicion that they accessed congressional computers without permission and stole equipment. There is also evidence of "financial schemes that extend beyond the Capitol Police’s purview and may expand to Pakistan," according to The Daily
President Donald Trump’s Wednesday announcement on Twitter that transgender men and women will not be allowed to serve in the military “in any capacity” was not a complete surprise: Last month, Defense Secretary James Mattis announced that the military was hitting the pause button on an Obama-era plan to welcome openly transgender people into the military. But the announcement was a legal land mine. The Trump administration may soon learn that singling out a class of people for exclusion violates the constitutional guarantee of equal protection under the law. And as to those transgender soldiers already serving openly, any effort
Let’s review a few recent developments. Last week, Sean Spicer, the White House press secretary, resigned. This was part of a “White House shakeup” to get the Trump administration back on track. The new communications director, Anthony Scaramucci, would fix the White House’s “messaging problem.” Within 24 hours of Scaramucci’s appointment, the president returned to Twitter and unloaded another torrent of political bombshells, including talking about his power to pardon, even as his attorneys were denying that Donald Trump was thinking about pardoning anyone.
WASHINGTON -- Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) today warned President Trump against firing either Attorney General Jeff Sessions or special counsel Robert Mueller, saying he plans to introduce bipartisan judicial review legislation to protect the former FBI director and future special counsels. Graham told reporters on Capitol Hill that he´s "100 percent behind Jeff Sessions," who´s been the target of various slings from Trump over the past week, and referred to a Wednesday tweet from Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa): Everybody in D.C. Shld b warned that the agenda for the judiciary Comm is set for rest of 2017. Judges first
President Donald Trump has been attacking his attorney general, Jeff Sessions, daily. There have been brutal attacks on Twitter, in media interviews, and during speeches. Conventional wisdom is that Trump is getting ready to fire Sessions or hoping Sessions resigns. Conventional wisdom also assured everyone that Hillary Clinton would win in a landslide, the only question being by how large a margin. Trump´s complaint is that his attorney general should not have recused himself from the Russia hacking hoax and that he is dragging his feet on long overdue investigations and prosecutions: Deep State leaks; unmasking; DNC and Clinton collusion
On Wednesday night, I received a phone call from Anthony Scaramucci, the new White House communications director. He wasn’t happy. Earlier in the night, I’d tweeted, citing a “senior White House official,” that Scaramucci was having dinner at the White House with President Trump, the First Lady, Sean Hannity, and the former Fox News executive Bill Shine. It was an interesting group, and raised some questions. Was Trump getting strategic advice from Hannity? Was he considering hiring Shine? But Scaramucci had his own question—for me. “Who leaked that to you?” he asked. I said I couldn’t give him that information.
President Donald Trump’s dramatic decision to exclude so-called “transgender” people from the military is a direct rejection of the progressives’ revolutionary demand that Americans’ society should be remade to eliminate all civic recognition of the two different-and-complementary male and female sexes. (Tweets) The Wednesday decision was greeted with anger from the left, which had hoped that the military’s 2016 endorsement of the transgender ideology would push the Supreme Court and legislators nationwide to impose and establish the unpopular claim that a person’s changeable choice of “gender” is more legally important than their biological sex. If endorsed by the courts, that
Filmmaker Michael Moore says he tried to Hillary Clinton that Michigan and Wisconsin voters might lean toward Donald Trump before the 2016 presidential election but claims no one would listen. Moore appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday night to promote his upcoming one-man Broadway show, The Terms of My Surrender. But the Michigan resident took time to discuss the current political climate, saying he ´never wanted to be more wrong in my life´ when warning people about Trump voters. ´I was trying to warn the rest of the country, out here, people who voted for Obama
