Wow. I listened to a lot of Barack Obama’s speeches, with all the empty platitudes about how we all can get along, even as the planet caught fire and burned while he sat back and dithered. I don’t remember any of Obama’s speeches approaching the profundity and understanding of the world that President Trump displayed in remarks delivered today, appropriately enough, in Warsaw, Poland. For those who think Trump is a buffoon, if they watched today, they witnessed a president with a rare understanding that ideas and principles matter, far more than bombs or feel-good false assurances. Poland is a
I have waited so long to hear a Republican President speak like this. Republicans back to Reagan don´t speak this way because, I think, they don´t really believe it.
The US isn´t perfect but guess what, we don´t have to be. Our Country and culture has brought enormous good to the world. We don´t need to be apologizing to all the failed countries out there. By any fair assessment, we don´t have musb to apologize for.
Trump has made some GREAT speeches. The media wants him to be a clown but he is incredibly capable and he is steadily accomplishing great things. It the Congress was functional a LOT more could get done.
I agree, #1! Excellent words that needed to be said. I think these freaking Muslims are starting to understand, this Trump guy is not G.W. Bush. He will not stand on the steps of a blood dripping Mosque and say, "Islam is a religion of peace." like some nerdy middle school kid. President Trump just might say, "Go get ´em boys. And bring along some rope!"
SAN DIEGO — Officials in San Diego County have declared a public health emergency due to the spread of the liver disease hepatitis A. Infections have killed 15 people and hospitalized nearly 400 more, with the homeless population hit hardest since the outbreak started last November. The Union-Tribune reports that Friday’s emergency declaration helps the county request state assistance and gives legal protection for new sanitation measures. Those measures include about 40 portable hand-washing stations for areas with concentrations of homeless. The virus lives in human feces and spreads if people who have used the bathroom don’t properly clean their hands. Crews also plan
Senate investigators have had problems getting the FBI to reveal information about the Trump dossier. They´re not the only ones. Outside groups filing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests are running up against a stone wall when it comes to the dossier. On March 8, Judicial Watch filed a FOIA request for documents regarding the bureau´s contacts with Christopher Steele, the former British spy who dug for dirt in Russia on candidate Donald Trump in the months before the 2016 presidential election. Steele´s effort was commissioned by the oppo research firm Fusion GPS, which at the time was being paid by
Gospel singers broke out in song at a Texas convention center on Tuesday night as the performers tried to lift spirits after thousands were evacuated from their homes during Hurricane and Tropical Storm Harvey. Victoria White, along with Marquist Taylor and several others, sang to evacuees at the Lone Star Expo Center in Conroe, Texas, north of Houston. Massive flooding from Harvey forced thousands of rescues that overwhelmed emergency responders as convention centers, churches and even mattress stores opened their doors to people needing shelter during the storm.
A Staten Island congressman wants an iconic statue of Christopher Columbus relocated to federal park land in his borough if the city takes it down in Manhattan in a frenzy of political correctness. “Christopher Columbus is a permanent fixture of our national history. Rarely can we trace the wheels of progress over 500 years back to the actions of a single person,” said Rep. Dan Donovan (R-SI/Brooklyn). “If a radical group bent on sanitizing history doesn’t want the statue at Columbus Circle anymore, Staten Island will gladly accept it.” Donovan said he’s making a direct appeal to Mayor de Blasio. The Columbus statue will
Confronted with a West Wing that treated policymaking as a free-for-all, President Donald Trump’s chief of staff, John Kelly, is instituting a system used by previous administrations to limit internal competition — and to make himself the last word on the material that crosses the president’s desk. It’s a quiet effort to make Trump conform to White House decision-making norms he’s flouted without making him feel shackled or out of the loop. In a conference call last week, Kelly initiated a new policymaking process in which just he and one other aide — White House staff secretary Rob Porter, a little-known
The Trump dossier is one of the most important and least understood elements of the Trump-Russia affair. It is important not just because its allegations are, as former FBI director James Comey said, "salacious and unverified," but because it 1) Appeared to offer evidence for some of the most sensational accusations that the Trump campaign colluded with Russians; 2) Involved a pro-Clinton organization paying investigators who paid Kremlin-linked Russians for allegations about Trump; and 3) Set Comey and Trump on a collision course when Comey chose to brief Trump about the dossier in a one-on-one meeting when Trump was president-elect.
WASHINGTON — President Trump’s skepticism about America’s involvement in Afghanistan was no secret to his staff. But his top national security officials were still taken aback at a meeting in the Situation Room on July 19, when an angry Mr. Trump began ripping apart their latest proposal to send thousands of additional American troops to the country. “We’re losing,” the president declared, according to a person who was in the room. The plan, he complained, was vague and open-ended, with no definition of victory. “What does success look like?” he asked. The day before that meeting, Mr. Trump had invited four soldiers
House Speaker Paul Ryan joined CNN´s Jake Tapper for a nationally-televised town hall in Ryan´s Wisconsin district Monday night. CNN picked the questioners and the questions, promising to cover a range of topics of concern to Ryan´s constituents and Americans in general. Many of those questions had a local feel, since Ryan stressed that he personally knew this or that questioner, or some member of the questioner´s family. The topics included President Trump´s plan for Afghanistan, announced minutes before the event began. There was a lot on the aftermath of Charlottesville and Trump´s statements regarding it. (One questioner, the sister of
During the presidential primaries and general election, there was no doubt where Donald Trump stood on the war in Iraq. "A big, fat mistake," Trump said of the Iraq invasion at a GOP debate in South Carolina in February 2016. "We should have never been in Iraq. We have destabilized the Middle East." How to Deal With Criticism Watch Full Screen Trump said similar things many other times in the campaign -- even after he didn´t have Jeb Bush, who was standing next to him that night in South Carolina, to kick around any more. Trump also made more general statements suggesting skepticism toward
If the media and progressives were honest with themselves and the public, they would admit that the left has wanted a “Charlottesville” for a long time. It was the perfect opportunity to battle “alt-right” white-supremacist-Nazis while furnishing a powerful optic to conflate racism with conservatism. It also aptly fits the meme that all conservatives, by dint of disagreeing with the tenets of liberalism, are in essence, racists as well. In his latest response to the riots, President Trump tried to separate the term “alt-right” from the Nazis and white supremacists present at the Unite the Right rally. Leftists, liberals, Democrats, progressives, and
Perhaps the most astonishing thing about Donald Trump´s victory last November was that, according to exit polls, 60 percent of the voters had an unfavorable impression of Trump on the day he was elected president of the United States. Now, it´s remarkable that after all that has happened, Trump´s favorable and unfavorable rating -- not his job approval, but whether people hold a favorable or unfavorable view of him -- is virtually the same as it was on election day. A new Marist poll, released Wednesday, found that 60 percent of those surveyed have an unfavorable view of the president, versus
WASHINGTON — President Trump’s personal lawyer on Wednesday forwarded an email to conservative journalists, government officials and friends that echoed secessionist Civil War propaganda and declared that the group Black Lives Matter “has been totally infiltrated by terrorist groups.” The email forwarded by John Dowd, who is leading the president’s legal team, painted the Confederate general Robert E. Lee in glowing terms and equated the South’s rebellion to that of the American Revolution against England. Its subject line — “The Information that Validates President Trump on Charlottesville” — was a reference to comments Mr. Trump made earlier this week in the
Former President Barack Obama plans to speak out if President Donald Trump declares his intention to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, according to a person close to Obama. Trump is expected to announce on Tuesday that in six months, he will terminate the Obama-era DACA initiative, which grants two-year work permits to undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and stayed out of trouble. POLITICO first reported the news. Obama used executive actions to launch the program in June 2012, providing assurances before his re-election that he would protect the so-called "Dreamers." Trump had suggested
A Democrat congressman is threatening to subpoena the White House over a draft of a letter President Donald Trump wrote regarding firing former FBI director James Comey. Adam Schiff, the ranking representative of the minority members of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, said he believes there could be evidence to support that the president attempted to obstruct justice in his reasoning for Comey´s ousting. Schiff, who represents California, told CNN host Dana Bash: ´It´s probably far past time for our committee to subpoena the White House to make sure we get all relevant documents.´ The House Intelligence Committee has requested notes,
For over a year conservative Americans and Trump supporters have been assaulted, spit on, beaten, cold-cocked, egged, chased, tackled and bloodied for attending Trump rallies and conservative events. The violence against Conservatives has escalated -Just last month members of a Patriot Prayer group canceled their rally but a few supporters turned out anyway. That’s when hundreds of alt-left Antifa protesters rioted. (Photo) An army of violent left-wing Antifa terrorists wearing all black, covering their faces with masks terrorized Trump supporters and chased them while trying to steal their phones and cameras. Police did not step in to stop the violence.
A Burning Man attendee died after he plunged into a famous flaming effigy during the annual gathering at the Nevada desert Saturday night. Pershing County Sheriff Jerry Allen confirmed the death of the man, identified as 41 year-old Aaron Joel Mitchell, at the UC Davis hospital burn center in California, Sunday. The Burning Man festival earlier confirmed the incident in a statement. Organizers said the man broke through a safety perimeter at approximately 10.30pm Saturday evening and ran into a fire. According to the statement, Black Rock City fire department personnel rescued the man from the fire. He was treated at the
HOUSTON—Magdalena and her family made it through Hurricane Harvey intact, but the fierce storm continues to devastate her family’s already meager finances. Before the storm, Magdalena — who asked to only be identified by her first name because she is an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador living in the U.S. illegally— and her household of seven were barely subsisting on the poverty-level wages her sister and brother-in-law bring home from their jobs at a factory and meatpacking plant. Then Harvey lashed the Texas coast and flooded one of the rooms in their squat two-bedroom apartment in southeast Houston. Even worse
Autumn, which is bearing down upon us like a menacing linebacker, is, as John Keats said, a season of mists and mellow fruitfulness and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). Actually, Keats, a romantic, did not mention that last part. He died before the birth of the subject of a waning American romance, football. This sport will never die, but it will never again be, as it was until recently, the subject of uncomplicated national enthusiasm. CTE is a degenerative brain disease confirmable
Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said Donald Trump should preserve a program giving legal cover to young undocumented immigrants, potentially creating a rift between the president and Republican leadership. An Obama-era initiative known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), allows unauthorized immigrants who were brought to the country as children and have clean legal records to get work permits and avoid deportation. Mr Trump has sent mixed signals on his intention for Daca but a threat by Republican attorneys general to sue if Mr Trump does not suspend the program is forcing a decision.
Just past the Wildwood boardwalk — with its deep-fried Oreos and chocolate-covered bacon, t-shirts deifying The Donald and putting Disney princesses in mugshots, amusement rides and redemption games — is the beach and then the Atlantic Ocean, the literal end of the road. We’re half a block away, sharing with another family a four-bedroom house that would be a mansion in the city. I’m not complaining, but it’s running about as much to rent at the end of the summer as our home south of Prospect Park, by no means a mansion, would go for any time. My wife asked our waitress
Steely Dan co-founder Walter Becker has died at home aged 67, according to the legendary bands official website. Becker along with fellow bandmate Donald Fagen wrote some of the 1970s biggest hits, including ´Rikki Don´t Lose that Number´, ´Do It Again´ and ´Reelin´ in the Years´. No cause of death has been announced, but Becker underwent surgery last month and missed Steely Dan´s Classic East and West concerts in July as he recovered from the unspecified ailment. (Snip) According to Rolling Stone, Becker´s doctor had advised him not to leave his Malibu home during his post-operative period.
Former First Lady Michelle Obama recreated Beyonce’s “Formation” look for the singer’s birthday Monday, despite the fact some police groups have labeled the music video anti-cop. Obama, Serena Williams, Kelly Rowland, and other celebrities took photographs donning the pigtail braids, black hat, and statement necklace from the “Formation” music video. The song has faced controversy from police groups because of images highlighted in the music video, including Beyonce standing on a sinking police cruiser in the intro. The video also features a wall that reads, “stop shooting us,” and shows a child dancing in front of police officers who are
Hillary Clinton promoted a new media platform Sunday that ostensibly collects and verifies facts. The website, called Verrit, advertises itself as a portal that "contextualizes noteworthy facts, stats, and quotes for politically engaged citizens." The site´s mantra, touted at the top of every page, is "Media for the 65.8 million," a reference to the popular-vote total Clinton received in the 2016 presidential election. Almost immediately after Clinton tweeted in support of the site on Sunday evening, it was hit with a denial-of-service attack, forcing the site offline for several hours. In an interview Monday, Verrit founder and CEO Peter Daou
The belief that humans came out of Africa millions of years ago is widely believed. But it might be about to be entirely re-written, according to the authors of a new study. They claim to have found a footprint in Crete that could change the narrative of early human evolution, suggesting that our ancestors were in modern Europe far earlier than we ever thought. The accepted story of the human lineage has been largely set since researchers found fossils of our early ancestors in South and East Africa, in the middle of the 20th century. Later discoveries appeared to suggest that those
