Some subways are literally
held together with zip ties

New York Post, by Danielle Furfaro

At more than $1 million per subway car, you’d think they’d be held together with something more than zip ties. A savvy straphanger noticed a homespun addition to her 7 train Wednesday morning when she saw part of the car fastened with zip ties. “Zip ties used on the undercarriage of a #7train..is this standard?” tweeted MsJaya_B. “How often are these checked for wear and tear?” With all the problems the MTA has had recently, writers can hardly be blamed for thinking the worst.

Used properly, zip ties perform rather well. Don´t exceed capacity and they will be fine. You really don´t want to know how widespread their usage is.

Facebook chief executive Mark Zuckerberg flew to Glacier National Park on Saturday to tour the melting ice fields that have become the poster child for climate change’s effects on Montana’s northern Rockies. But days before the tech tycoon’s visit, the Trump administration abruptly removed two of the park’s top climate experts from a delegation scheduled to show him around, telling a research ecologist and the park superintendent that they were no longer going to participate in the tour. The decision to micromanage Zuckerberg’s stop in Montana from 2,232 miles east in Washington, made by top officials at the Interior Department, the National

The New York Times published a diatribe from a black reporter Wednesday, in which he slammed “white women” for not getting out of his way as he walks through Manhattan. In the article, called “Was That Racist?” the Times published a series of short stories supposedly describing the complexities of figuring out if someone has been racist to you. “Everyday life brings awkward moments for everyone, but some of our daily stories are infused with added tension, especially if one or more of those involved perceive that race is a determining factor,” the intro to the article says. Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, in an exclusive interview with Fox News’ Martha MacCallum, made clear he would not approve leaks like ex-FBI Director James Comey’s release of personal notes on discussions with President Trump. WASHINGTON — So it’s a few days before the election last November — just a few more days, surely, before Donald J. Trump would return to his golden tower to start a niche TV venture and fill a sagging Twitter feed with exclamation-pointed despair — and a book agent goes to his client with an idea: How about something on the Trump White House That Wasn’t? The writer — Steve Israel, then a Democratic congressman from New York, now at work on his third political satire — whips up a proposal, “Trumplandia.” Plot lines include a furtive meeting with President

President Donald Trump´s top legislative priority was dealt a potentially fatal blow Monday night as two more Republican senators announced their opposition to the party´s health care overhaul. Trump quickly called on Republicans to simply repeal Obamacare and begin work on a new health care plan, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced he would try to do so. “Regretfully, it is now apparent that the effort to repeal and immediately replace the failure of Obamacare will not be successful," McConnell said. The Kentucky Republican said he planned to hold a vote in the coming days to take up the House-passed bill to

The recent reversal of Sheldon Silver’s corruption conviction by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit confirms the point I’ve been making for months about President Trump: his actions, as controversial as they may be, do not fit the definition of “corruption,” as that vague word is used in federal statutes. My critics have argued for an extraordinarily broad definition of corruption capable of being expanded to fit nearly everything Trump has done — from firing FBI Director James Comey, to asking him to consider dropping the investigation of General Michael Flynn, to his son’s meeting with Russian

In an ill-timed, ill-focused interview with the NYT, President Trump revisited his disdain for Sessions, his first, most-ardent and most-loyal supporter in the Senate. When supporting Trump was still considered career suicide, Sessions donned the red cap anyway. Maybe it will prove fatal for Sessions’ career, after all. The U.S. special counsel investigating possible ties between the Donald Trump campaign and Russia in last year’s election is examining a broad range of transactions involving Trump’s businesses as well as those of his associates, according to a person familiar with the probe. The president told the New York Times on Wednesday that any digging into matters beyond Russia would be out of bounds. Trump’s businesses have involved Russians for years, making the boundaries fuzzy so Special Counsel Robert Mueller appears to be taking a wide-angle approach to his two-month-old probe. We just learned that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) is in a battle against brain cancer. Yet, he´s not letting that stop him from still speaking his mind on foreign policy. Reports suggest that President Trump has ended a CIA program to arm and train anti-Assad rebels in Syria. The senator said that is unacceptable and used it to suggest the Trump administration has yet to offer a comprehensive plan on Syria. He also predicted that Russia will be huge fans of this development, since they want to see Bashar al-Assad remain in power.

If Sen. John McCain were to leave the Senate before his term ends in 2022, the governor would decide who fills the vacancy. McCain, who revealed Wednesday that he had been diagnosed with a brain tumor, made no indication he intends to step away.
