Hillary Clinton cited a study showing young people who read the Harry Potter series are "more compassionate" toward immigrants and LGBT community members during her speech Tuesday in Chicago. Clinton made the reference while delivering a speech at the American Library Association´s annual conference, as fans of the popular book series celebrated the 20th anniversary of the first novel´s release. "Years of data suggest that reading fiction builds empathy," she said. "It helps us put ourselves in others´ shoes. One study even found that young people who read the Harry Potter books, which first came out 20 years ago this week, were
Comments: That woman one of the most pathetic, worthless individuals ever to walk this earth. She always acts like she has the most important things to say when it´s nothing but worthless hogwash.
So? As an American, I am not required to be compassionate towards (illegal) immigrants and (perverted) LGBT freaks. I doubt very much that Hitlery reads very much, and she certainly has no compassion or empathy for others.
If she wishes to learn about empathy, forgiveness, and love, she should try reading a non-fiction book - the Bible. First she would need a major exorcism, however, with much fasting and prayer.
Hpw much was she paid to pimp out people who run libraries? She is certifiably insane. Does dreaming big include having the urge for homosexual men to dress up as nuns and simulate coitus in those pride parades?
My son read the HP books. I could not get into them. I did re-read the Little House series again after nearly 45 years and boy is that a delightful set of books. I will bet you a million bucks my idiot progressive BFF, who is a librarian, will be posting this article on her FB page any second. Barf!
Former President Obama offered "reflections" instead of advice to President Trump in an Inaguration Day letter that touched on American leadership in the world and democratic institutions, CNN reported Sunday. In the nearly 300-word letter obtained by the network, Obama congratulated him on his “remarkable run” and said “all of us, regardless of party, should hope for expanded prosperity and security during your tenure.” (Snip) Obama also urged Trump to preserve American leadership on the world stage “through action and example,” and emphasized that both of them were just “temporary occupants of this office.” “That makes us guardians of those

Danik, a retired FBI supervisory special agent, against the U.S. Department of Justice for records concerning FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe (Jeffrey A. Danik v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:17-cv-01792)). Danik worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation for almost 30 years. (Snip) “I am saddened by how the FBI’s reputation has been tarnished by the poor judgement and ethics of its leadership,” stated Mr. Danik. “I know I’m not the only retired (or serving) FBI special
A federal judge in New Jersey rejected Sen. Bob Menendez’s request to allow breaks in his criminal trial in order to fulfill his Senate duties, excoriating the senator for seeking “special treatment.” Menendez’s lawyers filed a motion requesting that his upcoming criminal trial take recesses any time the senator is needed in Washington on official business. (Snip) U.S. District Judge William Walls appeared irritated by the request in a Friday order dismissing the motion. “The court will not serve as concierge to any party or lawyer,” Walls wrote. “The motion – from a practical perspective – is nigh frivolous.” He further added
A former House of Representatives IT aide was arraigned in federal court Friday on four felony fraud charges, appearing with three attorneys including Chris Gowen, a former close aide to Hillary and Bill Clinton. Gowen asked that Imran Awan’s GPS monitoring bracelet be removed, citing that Imran might need to attend to an emergency with his children. In a press conference outside court, Gowen admitted that the children are in Pakistan and refused to explain the discrepancy. “His ability to parent, which may well be single parenting, if there is an emergency…” Gowen said. He also asked for other restrictions
Michelle Obama looked ever the A-lister as she stepped out for a workout and a yacht trip in Mallorca, Spain. The former First Lady, 53, shielded herself from the sun with shades and a black hood to enjoy a hike around the island on Thursday. She was surrounded by members of her staff tagging along for the sweat session, with members of her security team flanking her. Michelle is in Mallorca to visit American diplomat James Costos and his partner, Michael Smith. Her husband, former President Barack Obama, does not appear to have accompanied her on the international trip. The
The "alt-right" Twitter personality Mike Cernovich is at it again, with fresh accusations against the “Obama holdovers” who are supposedly undermining the Trump administration’s agenda. These attacks on apolitical career government officials show a deep misunderstanding of our government and undermine our institutions. I should know. As a political appointee early in the Obama administration, I worked with many “Bush holdovers”—and I can attest from personal experience that they are critical to achieving policy success. My first job in government was as a junior political appointee on the Iran desk in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, starting in
Arizona Sen. John McCain made clear in an op-ed Thursday that he believes Congress does not fall secondary to President Donald Trump — instead calling on Congress to return to regular order to accomplish the things Trump can´t. "We must respect his authority and constitutional responsibilities," McCain wrote in a Washington Post op-ed Thursday night. "We must, where we can, cooperate with him. But we are not his subordinates. We don’t answer to him. We answer to the American people." McCain made the plea to a Congress that faces continued gridlock as it returns from August recess next week, and wrote out
Tax credits received by illegal immigrants and wage write-offs U.S companies claim in their illegal employment costs the Treasury $296 billion over 10 years, according to a new report that is urging Congress to crackdown on the loopholes. Annually, according to the Center for Immigration Studies, the lost taxes bill is about $30 billion, enough to fund the average middle income tax cut the Trump administration is considering, about $300. Jim Mattis: ´We are never out of diplomatic solutions´ on North Korea Watch Full Screen That comes on top of wage losses to legal workers of $118 billion when companies
A federal judge on Thursday fined pro-life investigator David Daleiden and two of his attorneys nearly $200,000 after finding them in contempt of court for the release of undercover videos. U.S. District Court Judge William Orrick said the $195,359 tab would compensate the National Abortion Federation for “expenses incurred as a result of the violation of my Preliminary Injunction Order,” which had banned the release of the video footage taken at NAF meetings. (Snip) Mr. Daleiden described the sanctions as an attack on his rights to defend himself. Matthew Geragos, an attorney for Cooley and Ferreira, told the Associated Press that
Special counsel Bob Mueller has teamed up with the IRS. According to sources familiar with his investigation into alleged Russian election interference, his probe has enlisted the help of agents from the IRS’ Criminal Investigations unit. This unit—known as CI—is one of the federal government’s most tight-knit, specialized, and secretive investigative entities. Its 2,500 agents focus exclusively on financial crime, including tax evasion and money laundering. A former colleague of Mueller’s said he always liked working with IRS’ special agents, especially when he was a U.S. Attorney. And it goes without saying that the IRS has access to Trump’s tax
House Speaker Paul Ryan condemned violent leftist Antifa protesters Wednesday a day after House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi condemned the group. “Speaker Ryan believes, as is obvious, these individuals are left-wing thugs, and those who are committing violence need to be arrested and prosecuted. Antifa is a scourge on our country,” Ryan’s spokeswoman AshLee Strong said in a statement provided exclusively to The Daily Caller. Speaker Ryan has been criticized by many conservatives for what was viewed as a weak response to the violent activists. President Donald Trump blamed “many sides” for the violence surrounding a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va.,
Paul Anka will not be a victim of the political correctness that prompted more than a dozen charities to cancel or move fundraisers from Mar-a-Lago following President Trump’s remarks about the violence in Charlottesville, Va. Anka, 76, a pop star since he was a teenager, was booked to perform Dec. 2 at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla., at the LIFE (Leaders in Furthering Education) Lady in Red Gala, and had received a deposit of $75,000. But when Trump was criticized for blaming “both sides” for the violence in Charlottesville, LIFE — run by Lois Pope, the widow of National Enquirer
Former President Barack Obama plans to speak out if President Donald Trump declares his intention to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, according to a person close to Obama. Trump is expected to announce on Tuesday that in six months, he will terminate the Obama-era DACA initiative, which grants two-year work permits to undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and stayed out of trouble. POLITICO first reported the news. Obama used executive actions to launch the program in June 2012, providing assurances before his re-election that he would protect the so-called "Dreamers." Trump had suggested
A Democrat congressman is threatening to subpoena the White House over a draft of a letter President Donald Trump wrote regarding firing former FBI director James Comey. Adam Schiff, the ranking representative of the minority members of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, said he believes there could be evidence to support that the president attempted to obstruct justice in his reasoning for Comey´s ousting. Schiff, who represents California, told CNN host Dana Bash: ´It´s probably far past time for our committee to subpoena the White House to make sure we get all relevant documents.´ The House Intelligence Committee has requested notes,
For over a year conservative Americans and Trump supporters have been assaulted, spit on, beaten, cold-cocked, egged, chased, tackled and bloodied for attending Trump rallies and conservative events. The violence against Conservatives has escalated -Just last month members of a Patriot Prayer group canceled their rally but a few supporters turned out anyway. That’s when hundreds of alt-left Antifa protesters rioted. HOUSTON—Magdalena and her family made it through Hurricane Harvey intact, but the fierce storm continues to devastate her family’s already meager finances. Before the storm, Magdalena — who asked to only be identified by her first name because she is an undocumented immigrant from El Salvador living in the U.S. illegally— and her household of seven were barely subsisting on the poverty-level wages her sister and brother-in-law bring home from their jobs at a factory and meatpacking plant. Then Harvey lashed the Texas coast and flooded one of the rooms in their squat two-bedroom apartment in southeast Houston. Even worse
Autumn, which is bearing down upon us like a menacing linebacker, is, as John Keats said, a season of mists and mellow fruitfulness and chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). Actually, Keats, a romantic, did not mention that last part. He died before the birth of the subject of a waning American romance, football. This sport will never die, but it will never again be, as it was until recently, the subject of uncomplicated national enthusiasm. CTE is a degenerative brain disease confirmable
Speaker of the House Paul Ryan said Donald Trump should preserve a program giving legal cover to young undocumented immigrants, potentially creating a rift between the president and Republican leadership. An Obama-era initiative known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), allows unauthorized immigrants who were brought to the country as children and have clean legal records to get work permits and avoid deportation. Mr Trump has sent mixed signals on his intention for Daca but a threat by Republican attorneys general to sue if Mr Trump does not suspend the program is forcing a decision.
Just past the Wildwood boardwalk — with its deep-fried Oreos and chocolate-covered bacon, t-shirts deifying The Donald and putting Disney princesses in mugshots, amusement rides and redemption games — is the beach and then the Atlantic Ocean, the literal end of the road. We’re half a block away, sharing with another family a four-bedroom house that would be a mansion in the city. I’m not complaining, but it’s running about as much to rent at the end of the summer as our home south of Prospect Park, by no means a mansion, would go for any time. My wife asked our waitress
Steely Dan co-founder Walter Becker has died at home aged 67, according to the legendary bands official website. No cause of death has been announced, but Becker underwent surgery last month and missed Steely Dan´s Classic East and West concerts in July as he recovered from the unspecified ailment. North Korea´s latest nuclear weapons test has renewed fears of a devastating electro-magnetic pulse, or EMP, attack that could wipe out electrical grids across the US. For the first time, North Korea specifically mentioned the possibility of an EMP attack on the US following Sunday´s test of a 100-kiloton weapon, which the regime claims is a thermonuclear bomb. The weapon could wipe out much of a city, but the pulse from a high-altitude blast could sow chaos and destruction far wider. North Korea´s state news agency warned that the weapon ´is a multifunctional thermonuclear nuke with great destructive power which can be detonated

Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle have called on the president not to end the program, with House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) telling a
I’m not a Texan. I don’t adore the Lone Star State. I’m a transplant who’s lived in Austin for the last four years. I can’t name the state fish, I don’t understand the thing with mums at Homecoming, and I think chicken fried steak sucks. I don’t care about Friday Night Lights. But I married into a Texas family. A Texas family with crazy deep roots. My wife is a direct descendant from the Texas Revolution. Through my marriage, I get a front row seat to all things that filter through the Texas lens
