The FBI on Friday refused to hand over to The Washington Times unclassified memos that former Director James Comey wrote describing his meetings with President Trump because they are part of a pending or prospective law enforcement proceeding. The denial of the documents, whose existence was made known and whose release was encouraged by Mr. Comey himself, was a response to a Freedom of Information Act request filed by The Times. It came as CNN and the New York Times filed lawsuits against the FBI after the bureau failed to respond to similar requests within a specified amount of time.
When did Comey first state publicly that he no longer possessed the memos? When did Come have a private meeting with Mueller? And ultimately when did Comey actually write the memos? At this time I do not believed that they have not been altered.
"Pending or Prospective" could be cover for almost any situation. In this case it actually aids the NYT and CNN in keeping this nothing burger alive one leaky drip at a time. It´s time for the unmasking of anonymous sources and, if appropriate, prosecution.
I believe we all know where this is headed memos or no memos. There is an evil force in Washington that is so deeply embedded in our government that unless there are some really smart patriots there who are willing to come forward, we will continue to have a government run by these shadowy traitors. I worry that we have a PINO and have had for some time. This wretched cabal needs to be exposed and prosecuted. It is not right that these agencies have no accountability. No one elected them to anything and yet, here we are, captive by the whims of these traitors. Everyone fears them, the media supports them, and the Republic is at risk because of them. I fear the deep state has so completely engulfed every aspect of the government that no one will stand against it. Regardless of whether we ever see these memos, who believes their authenticity?
We don´t even have a government any more, and haven´t for several decades. Just a bunch of pompous individuals in expensive suits and skirts drawing a paycheck at our expense. Trump is a voice in the wilderness. I think we´re past the point of reform.
Release a copy. They are not asking for an original. They are not asking for the gun that killed Kennedy. It´s a memo, they can make thousands of copies and not alter the original. Nor is it a secret. It´s been read to a reporter. Hopefully they wont get an Obama judge.
Fake memos created long after the fact and after Trump made a comment "he better hope I there isn´t a tape". When you read about Comey´s history with the Clintons and how he assisted them several times plus his assistance in the Clinton Foundation you can only conclude he is corrupt to the core.
Remember how chief snake-charmer Chuck Schumer warned Trump that the Intelligence Community could make life difficult for him after Trump accused them in the media? The WH needs to lawyer up and start unraveling this snakeball right now, and do it in the sterilizing light of day. Subpoena ALL communications from Schumer and other Dems (including McCain) to all Intelligence Agencies.
I think we should place a moratorium on JD degrees for the next several years. All these shenanigans in DC are the result of too many lawyers looking to create work and justify their existence. How about getting to work on tax cuts and tax reform? Instead of treating our government like its a board game and every roll of the dice is disputed. Bottom line: We are full up on lawyers.
Hugh Hewitt‘s new MSNBC show debuted this morning with a pretty big get: CIA Director Mike Pompeo. Pompeo spoke with Hewitt about everything from Russia to Iran to cracking down on leaks, but he also talked about President Trump‘s interest in the intel reports he is provided: “President Obama consumed his intelligence in a different way. President Trump is incredibly demanding of the intelligence community, asks us incredibly difficult questions, and then counts on myself and other leaders in the IC to deliver those answers for him.” When Hewitt brought up the criticism from others that Trump seems “uninterested in
“As a nation, the U.S. has a deep and enduring connection to guns. Integrated into the fabric of American society since the country’s earliest days, guns remain a point of pride for many Americans. Whether for hunting, sport shooting or personal protection, most gun owners count the right to bear arms as central to their freedom,” reports a wide-ranging new poll from the Pew Research Center. It found that 74 percent of all U.S. gun owners say owning a gun is “essential to their freedom.” Another 73 percent of the owners say they could never see themselves “not owning a
Sen. Bernie Sanders is headlining a "don´t take our health care" rally tonight in Pittsburgh as a first stop on a three-state tour to mobilize opposition to the Senate health care bill, which the Vermont senator has called "by far the most harmful piece of legislation I have seen in my lifetime." Sanders teamed up with progressive advocacy organization MoveOn.org to hold rallies this weekend in Pittsburgh; Columbus, Ohio; and Charleston, West Virginia, with the goal of pressuring Republican senators in each of the states to oppose the legislation released Thursday. Republican Sens. Pat Toomey in Pennsylvania, Rob Portman in
The Hill headlines: “Dems push leaders to talk less about Russia.” Frustrated Democrats hoping to elevate their election fortunes have a resounding message for party leaders: Stop talking so much about Russia. Democratic leaders have been beating the drum this year over the ongoing probes into the Trump administration’s potential ties to Moscow, taking every opportunity to highlight the saga and forcing floor votes designed to uncover any business dealings the president might have with Russian figures. But rank-and-file Democrats say the Russia-Trump narrative is simply a non-issue with district voters, who are much more worried about bread-and-butter economic concerns like
A week after a gunman opened fire on a Republican congressional baseball practice, triggering bipartisan calls for unity, Democrats have turned up their rhetoric. House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R., La.) was shot in the hip on June 14 along with four others after a shooter targeted the GOP practice in Alexandria, Va. The shooter, James T. Hodgkinson, was an avid supporter of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I., Vt.) who had a deep hatred of Republicans and President Donald Trump. Republicans and Democrats subsequently joined in unison to call for lawmakers to tone done their political rhetoric. The rhetoric was toned
Senate and House Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi, respectively, did not respond to Breitbart News’s request for comment on actor Johnny Depp’s remarks at a festival in England about assassinating President Donald Trump. Breitbart News sought comments in an email sent twice to Senate Minority Leader Schumer and House Minority Leader Pelosi’s press officials. Breitbart also sought comment from Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT) but received no response from either, both of whom are outspoken critics of the president. On Thursday, Depp said at “Cinemageddon,” a film stage
Parliament has been hit by a ´sustained and determined cyber attack´ that has led to MPs and peers being locked out of their emails. News of the attack surfaced on Friday night, with parliamentarians reporting issues getting into their email accounts today. Lib Dem peer Baron Rennard tweeted: ´Cyber security attack on Westminster Parliamentary e-mails may not work remotely text urgent messages.´ Scroll down for video (Photos) Ian Austin, MP for Dudley, also reported his emails were down moments after Lord Rennard´s tweet. He wrote: ´There´s something wrong with Parliamentary emails so if you did email me, can you send
MSNBC host Stephanie Ruhle incorrectly stated Friday that Planned Parenthood has had “huge increases” in the number of essential women’s health services they provide. Florida Rep. Francis Rooney was arguing for defunding Planned Parenthood on “Velshi & Ruhle,” and stated that Planned Parenthood has decreased its non-abortion activities, which is consistent with Planned Parenthood’s own statistics. Ruhle challenged his claim, rebutting, “I don’t know where you read that but I don’t believe that’s true based on our reporting and what we cover.” (Snip) Planned Parenthood’s own annual report, published on May 26, disagrees with her. The statistics from that report indicate
A secretive Washington firm that commissioned the dubious intelligence dossier on Donald Trump is stonewalling congressional investigators trying to learn more about its connections to the Democratic Party. The Senate Judiciary Committee earlier this month threatened to subpoena the firm, Fusion GPS, after it refused to answer questions and provide records to the panel identifying who financed the error-ridden dossier, which was circulated during the election and has sparked much of the Russia scandal now engulfing the White House. What is the company hiding? Fusion GPS describes itself as a “research and strategic intelligence firm” founded by “three former Wall
The Supreme Court constrained the rights of property owners Friday, establishing a test that favors government officials in assessing the loss of property value caused by government regulations. Writing for a 5-3 court, Justice Anthony Kennedy explained that state and local officials can combine separate parcels of land in assessing whether local government has effectively seized private property through regulation, requiring compensation. Kennedy’s opinion was joined by Justices Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor, and Elena Kagan. Chief Justice John Roberts filed a fiery dissent, joined by Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito. The case concerned a Wisconsin family
Even though it runs through the heart of L.A’.s Baldwin Hills/Crenshaw neighborhood, most Angelenos would be hard pressed to locate Rodeo Road on a map. In fact, they’d probably point to its ritzy doppelganger — Beverly Hills’ Rodeo Drive — instead. That may change very soon, however. Residents here are cheering a proposal to rename the asphalt thoroughfare in honor of former President Obama, who visited here when he was a U.S. senator. The news that southwest L.A.´s Rodeo Road may soon be renamed “Obama Boulevard" was received positively by residents of the surrounding Crenshaw district. "I´m so happy, that
WASHINGTON— The Supreme Court enters its final week of work before a long summer hiatus with action expected on the Trump administration´s travel ban and a decision due in a separation of church and state case that arises from a Missouri church playground. The biggest news of all, though, would be if Justice Anthony Kennedy were to use the court´s last public session on Monday to announce his retirement. To be sure, Kennedy has given no public sign that he will retire this year and give President Donald Trump his second high court pick in the first months of his
California is restricting publicly funded travel to four more states because of recent laws that leaders here view as discriminatory against gay and transgender people. All totaled, California now bans most state-funded travel to eight states. The new additions to California’s restricted travel list are Texas, Alabama, Kentucky and South Dakota. They join Kansas, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee as states already subjected to the ban. California Attorney Xavier Becerra announced the new states at a Thursday press conference, where he was joined by representatives from ACLU Northern California and Equality California.
In a year that he would like to forget, which included his acrimonious divorce to Amber Heard, Johnny Depp appeared at a Q&A at the new Cinemageddon stage at Glastonbury. Introducing his 2004 film The Libertine, about a 17th-century poet who notoriously drank himself to an early death, the 54-year-old chose to discuss American politics. "I think [Donald] Trump needs help," he said. "There are a lot of dark places he could go." He added: "I´m not insinuating anything - by the way this will be in the press and it will be horrible - but when was the last
Most illegal immigrants who pay taxes have stolen someone else’s legal identity, and the IRS doesn’t do a very good job of letting those American citizens and legal immigrants know they’re being impersonated, the tax agency’s inspector general said in a new report released Thursday. The theft creates major problems for the American citizens and legal foreign workers whose identities are stolen, and who have to deal with explaining money they never earned. But the IRS only manages to identify half of the potentially 1.4 million people likely affected by the fraud in 2015, the Treasury Inspector General for Tax
[…] John Anzalone, Ossoff’s pollster, said the Democrat’s campaign succeeded in turning out its voters — but they were swamped by Republicans who came out in numbers that ended up dwarfing previous high-profile special elections (link) That’s a very interesting admission/statement for a Politico article. That’s also an example of what happens when President Trump’s ‘Monster Vote‘ turns out. (Politico) Jon Ossoff was on a trajectory to defeat Karen Handel narrowly, poised to deliver a humiliating blow to the White House in a race billed as a referendum of Donald Trump’s early months in office. Then the Republican voters in
The deadly collision between a U.S. destroyer and a container ship June 17 took place while the freighter was on autopilot, according to Navy officials. The Philippines-flagged cargo ship ACX Crystal was under control of a computerized navigation system that was steering and guiding the container vessel, according to officials familiar with preliminary results of an ongoing Navy investigation. Investigators so far found no evidence the collision was deliberate. Nevertheless, an accident during computerized navigation raises the possibility the container ship´s computer system could have been hacked and the ship deliberately steered into the USS Fitzgerald, an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer. A more
President Obama has been out of office only a few months. But he might have both a street and an L.A. freeway named after him soon. Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson has proposed renaming Rodeo Road in southwest L.A. “Obama Boulevard” in honor of the president. Wesson noted that Obama held a campaign rally at Rancho Cienega Park on Rodeo Road when running for president and that the area already has streets named after presidents (Washington, Jefferson, Adams). In May, a plan to name a stretch of the 134 Freeway after Obama moved forward with approval from the
MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski compared President Donald Trump’s administration to North Korea Friday, saying “It does feel like a developing dictatorship.” “I will say you can do some work reading history and reading books about how dictatorship happen. The development of very negative forces taking over and what you are seeing is either this happening right now, or someone who’s not well. Very few options,” Brzezinski continued. Co-host Joe Scarborough tried to lighten to mood during the segment, saying, “I think it’s actually more like Hogan’s Heroes if anything else.” Brzezinski she quietly rebuked Trump once more saying
Many Americans have become accustomed to President Trump’s lies. But as regular as they have become, the country should not allow itself to become numb to them. So we have catalogued nearly every outright lie he has told publicly since taking the oath of office. “I wasn´t a fan of Iraq. I didn´t want to go into Iraq.” (He was for an invasion before he was against it.)Jan. 21 “A reporter for Time magazine — and I have been on their cover 14 or 15 times. I think
Eaarly last August, an envelope with extraordinary handling restrictions arrived at the White House. Sent by courier from the CIA, it carried “eyes only” instructions that its contents be shown to just four people: President Barack Obama and three senior aides. Inside was an intelligence bombshell, a report drawn from sourcing deep inside the Russian government that detailed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s direct involvement in a cyber campaign to disrupt and discredit the U.S. presidential race. But it went further. The intelligence captured Putin’s specific instructions on the operation’s audacious objectives — defeat or at least damage the Democratic nominee,
ST. LOUIS - The insurance company for the city of Ferguson, Missouri, paid $1.5 million to settle a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Michael Brown´s parents, the city attorney said Friday. Attorney Apollo Carey disclosed the amount in an email in response to an open records request. The settlement of the federal lawsuit was announced Tuesday, but financial details were not initially released. Carey declined further comment on the settlement. A phone message seeking comment from the attorney for the family, Anthony Gray, was not immediately returned. Brown, 18, was black and unarmed when he was fatally shot by white officer Darren Wilson
The televised White House news briefing, after emerging as a can’t-miss ritual of the early days of the Trump administration, has in recent weeks become shorter, less informative and less accessible, with some of the briefings declared off-limits to live broadcasting. The White House Correspondents’ Association is not pleased. “We believe strongly that Americans should be able to watch and listen to senior government officials face questions from an independent news media,” the group’s president, Jeff Mason of Reuters, wrote in a note to members on Friday. Mr. Mason met on Thursday with Sean Spicer, the White House press
Former presidential nominee Hillary Clinton came out swinging in a tweet Friday, saying if Senate Republicans pass their current healthcare bill, they will become the “death party.” Clinton’s post referenced an article from the Center for American Progress, an independent nonpartisan policy institute, which cited Harvard researchers as saying “the Senate bill could result in 18,000 to 28,000 deaths in 2026.” (Snip) The tweet from Clinton follows an earlier tweet urging her supporters to "speak out against" the bill.
