Hope everybody´s OK. That ends the career of the CO, the officer who had the conn and possibly the navigator and CICWO. Hitting another ship in the open ocean is really kind of hard to do.

It´s not obvious where the water ingress is but from the looks of the collision the impact was from about 30º relative. If both ships had any appreciable way on the impact may have buckled her below the waterline. Both ships appeared to have come completely to a stop in the collision as there does not appear to be any scraping evidence along the side. May have even broke her back. Doesn´t look good.

ISLAMIST extremists holed up in a southern Philippines town have been cornered and their firepower is flagging as the five-week battle for control of Marawi City rages on. However, South-east Asian governments are still concerned the siege could be just the start of further violence as the twisted group try to establish a foothold in their region. Jolted by an attack on Marawi on May 23, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines have launched joint patrols to control the movement of militants across their archipelagic region and their foreign ministers gathered in Manila on Thursday for talks. Washington - The closely guarded Senate health care bill written entirely behind closed doors finally became public Thursday in a do-or-die moment for the Republican Party´s winding efforts to repeal Obamacare. The unveiling of the 142-page bill marks the first time that the majority of senators get a look at the plan to overhaul America´s health care system. With Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pressing ahead for a vote next week, senators now only a handful of days to decide whether to support or vote against the bill. Four conservative Republican senators -- Rand Paul, Ted Cruz, Ron Johnson and Mike Lee

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi defended her position atop the party, as a number of caucus members have suggested it might be time for a fresh face. ´I think I´m worth the trouble,´ she told reporters Thursday. ´I feel very confident in the support I have in the caucus,´ Pelosi also said. The calls for Pelosi to vacate her top spot came after Tuesday´s election loss in Georgia with Democrat Jon Ossoff being routed by Republican Karen Handel. Republicans expertly connected Ossoff to Pelosi, a poison pill for some voters, prompting calls for a leadership change. Ossoff was the fourth

The European Union has agreed to extend sanctions against Russia over its actions in Ukraine, following a similar move by the US this week. European Council president Donald Tusk tweeted on Thursday while hosting an EU summit in Brussels: 'Agreed. EU will extend economic sanctions against Russia.' The move has come about in relation to Russia's failure to implement measures promised in a peace agreement. After Thursday's political decision, the sanctions will be formally extended for another six months, through to January.

JEREMY CORBYN yestertday came under fire on social media after the Labour Party leader appeared to refuse to bow to the Queen and then winked during the State Opening. Mr Corbyn, who is a longstanding republican, appeared to refuse to join his peers in paying his respects to the Crown as the 91-year-old monarch prepared to give her speech to the House of Commons and House of Lords on Wednesday. While Theresa May can be seen bowing her head to the Queen moments before giving her address, the Labour Party leader stood defiantly before winking at an unknown person in

President Donald Trump has said he will pursue legislation that would bar immigrants from being eligible for welfare for at least five years. At a rally in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, last night he said ´the time has come´ for ´new immigration rules´ that would require those seeking admission to the country to be able to support themselves financially and would bar the use of welfare for a period of at least five years. He said his administration would be ´putting in legislation to that effect very shortly.´ It is unclear, however, how Trump´s proposal would change the current situation.

A Canadian sniper has beat the record for the longest confirmed kill in military history by picking off an ISIS fighter from a staggering 11,319 feet. The bullet was fired from a McMillan TAC-50 rifle set on a high-rise tower and took 10 seconds to travel the 2.14 miles towards the fighter, who was attacking Iraqi soldiers. This smashed the last record set by a Briton Craig Harrison, who killed a Taliban soldier with a 338 Lapua Magnum rifle at a range of 8,120 feet(1.54 miles) in 2009. A military source told The Globe and Mail the kill was verified by video,

Jon Ossoff was on a trajectory to defeat Karen Handel narrowly, poised to deliver a humiliating blow to the White House in a race billed as a referendum of Donald Trump’s early months in office. Then the Republican voters in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District unexpectedly showed up in droves. Pollsters say sky-high turnout drove Handel, the GOP nominee, to a nearly 4-point victory on Tuesday, despite most pre-election surveys showing Ossoff with a small-but-shrinking lead. Mathematically, a 4-point loss for a Democratic House candidate in a district that has traditionally elected Republicans by wide margins is an encouraging result for

(Facebook) - Former President Barack Obama took to Facebook to ask Republicans to reconsider their efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare. "I recognize that repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act has become a core tenet of the Republican Party," Obama wrote. "Still, I hope that our senators, many of whom I know well, step back and measure what’s really at stake, and consider that the rationale for action, on health care or any other issue, must be something more than simply undoing something that Democrats did." He argued that the Republican health care bill

A city on Mars with a million inhabitants could be achievable within 50 years, the space entrepreneur Elon Musk has forecast, as he laid out plans to turn mankind into a multi-planetary species. The SpaceX founder warned that humans would need to venture away from Earth to avoid a ‘Doomsday event’ and our ‘eventual extinction.’ But he said that a huge Martian city could be established this century, which would not just be an outpost, but a fully functioning society with ‘iron foundries and pizza joints.’

Ed Morrissey may be on vacation but he’s still keeping his ear to the door of American politics. He popped up on Twitter this morning, searching for his dictionary to look up the definition of “chutzpah.” The reason for his apparent confusion was a rather off-putting interview with Georgia-06 Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff conducted by NPR’s Rachel Martin. The subject of the massive, record-breaking amount of cash dumped into this race couldn’t be avoided, so Martin asked Ossoff to weigh in. He did so, but his take on the subject rang a bit hollow to say the least. (Emphasis added

Despite receiving an invitation to meet with President Trump, members of the Congressional Black Caucus have reportedly chosen to decline, per Politico. Both Trump and the Congressional Black Caucus met in March to discuss issues important to CBC members, yet many in the Caucus felt as if little to no progress has been made since that meeting three months ago and that any subsequent meeting would be merely lip service. One Democratic aide illustrated the thinking of some in the Congressional Black Caucus saying, “No one wants to be a co-star on the reality show.” Former “Apprentice” star Omarosa Manigault,

California is restricting publicly funded travel to four more states because of recent laws that leaders here view as discriminatory against gay and transgender people. All totaled, California now bans most state-funded travel to eight states. The new additions to California’s restricted travel list are Texas, Alabama, Kentucky and South Dakota. They join Kansas, Mississippi, North Carolina and Tennessee as states already subjected to the ban. California Attorney Xavier Becerra announced the new states at a Thursday press conference, where he was joined by representatives from ACLU Northern California and Equality California.

Illinois is like Venezuela now, a fiscally broken state that has lost its will to live, although for the moment, we still have enough toilet paper. But before we run out of the essentials, let´s finally admit that after decade upon decade of taxing and spending and borrowing, Illinois has finally run out of other people´s money. Those "other people" include taxpayers who´ve abandoned the state. And now Illinois faces doomsday. So as the politicians meet in Springfield this week for another round of posturing and gesturing and blaming, we need a plan.

Ex-Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson’s testimony Wednesday should mark the definitive end of “Russia hacked the election” hysteria. Too bad it took so long to get to this point. Johnson told the House Intelligence Committee outright that the Russians failed to alter “ballots, ballot counts or reporting of election results.” Yes, it’s clear Russia (with Vladimir Putin’s full approval) orchestrated cyberattacks designed to influence the 2016 contest, and also pushed fake news. But the hack, and release via WikiLeaks, etc., of Democratic e-mails produced nothing game-changing. The biggest impact was to confirm the obvious: The Democratic National Committee favored Hillary Clinton from the
