For those of us who experience gun violence via movies or television, the single bullet wound to the hip that House Majority Whip Steve Scalise suffered in a ballfield shooting Wednesday would seem less serious than what could have happened to him. After all, he wasn´t hit in the head or chest, which can be immediately fatal. But even a single penetrating wound to the pelvic region, which is densely packed with blood vessels, organs and other structures, is extremely dangerous, according to trauma surgeons and emergency medical personnel. According to MedStar Washington Hospital Center, the rifle shot to the Louisiana congressman´s
Comments: This is a combat injury, a battlefield injury. Should never happen on a public park baseball diamond...
The article tells us more about what Rep. Scalise and his doctors are having to deal with...
“There is a shock wave that accompanies that metal fragment,” Bokhari said. “It makes a track where it cuts through. … Everything above or below it is destroyed.” That track can be five to 10 times wider than the bullet, he added. High-powered rifles put vastly more energy behind a bullet than handguns do, increasing the damage, he said.
And the more blood that has to be transfused, the less effective the body’s capacity for clotting.
This article gives us a sense of the complexity and gravity of Rep. Scalise’s injury.
Horrible wound, no doubt, and a very vascularized part of the body. More prayers for Rep. Scalise.
Rifles are far more powerful than pistols, but the .223 used in the AR-15 is illegal to use to hunt deer in most states because it isn´t considered powerful enough.
It is fortunate that he was not shot with any normal deer hunting rifle, with deer hunting ammunition, he would likely not made it to the ambulance. In that sense, out of all this horror, there is a bit of good luck, although it is very hard to see that at this time.
Thank goodness for small favors, and small calibers, which the .223 is one.
Most comments I´ve seen from Democrats on the Alexandria shooting have been supportive of the idea of targeting Republicans for political assassination. Prominent figures on the left have turned their followers into a loose domestic terror organization. The federal government has no idea what they are dealing with. Anyone thinking Alexandria was a fluke is deluding themselves. It is the first of what will become a pattern or political murders by the Democrat mob.
California Attorney General Xavier Becerra is launching a preemptive legal assault against the Trump Administration’s promise to pull tens of billions of dollars of federal funding from “sanctuary cities” that do not cooperate in enforcement against illegal aliens. Attorney General Becerra is leading a coalition of 300 cities, 18 counties, and the State of California that intend to sue the Trump Administration over U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ plan to begin cutting off funding to jurisdictions tagged by the U.S. Justice Department as “sanctuary cities” that harbor illegal aliens from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, according to the Sacramento
Judicial Watch, a conservative watchdog organization, has sent a letter to California Secretary of State Alex Padilla on behalf of the Election Integrity Project, noting that there are 11 counties in the state with more registered voters, and alleging that the state may be out of compliance with Section 8 of the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA). The letter reads, in part: NVRA Section 8 requires states to conduct reasonable list maintenance so as to maintain an accurate record of eligible voters for use in conducting federal elections.1 As you may know, Congress enacted Section 8 of the NVRA to protect the
For several months we have been highlighting the unique opportunity presented to Donald Trump to reshape the federal judiciary. That opportunity has largely been lost in a liberal media trying to take down Trump over Russia, Russia, Russia, as I previously wrote, While you were focused on COMEY, Trump nominated another group of CONSERVATIVE Judges: While everyone was focused on Comey’s prepared statement, Trump went about his business filling vacancies in the federal judiciary. I wrote about this a month ago, Trump begins counter-packing federal courts, Dems can’t stop him thanks to Reid Rule: As we have pointed out repeatedly, Trump has an unprecedented
By now most discerning political followers have identified the ideological source of the attacks against HR McMaster. A widely diverse community of domestic America-Second interests that have come together, in common ideological purpose, to attack President Trump’s National Security Advisor. Sadly these interests often use the divisive label of antisemitism to attack people behind policies they disagree with. It is an unfortunate, albeit historically predictable, approach. Specifically because of the agenda behind these attacks, last night President Trump delivered support for McMaster noting the NSA head’s support for Israel. “General McMaster and I are working very well together. He is a good
President Trump’s intensifying crackdown on transnational crime gang MS-13 is being met with fierce resistance by the Left. Understanding the leftist mind is an inexact science but the complaints seem to center around the idea that in the Trump era trying to eliminate an ethno-culturally non-diverse criminal organization is somehow racist, no matter how horrifying and brutal the group’s crimes against innocent Americans may be. The Left habitually sides with antisocial causes, putting partisanship over the interests of the American people. Left-wingers promote so-called sanctuary cities which are magnets for illegal aliens and the crime that accompanies them. They don’t care
Mainstream media reports poured in Thursday and Friday indicating that Special Counsel Robert Mueller has far outstripped the original parameters of his investigation and begun digging into President Donald Trump’s business dealings. CNN reported Thursday, that sources close to the investigation told them they are hopeful “the web of financial ties could offer a more concrete path toward potential prosecution than the broader and murkier questions of collusion in the 2016 campaign.” After this striking admission, in effect acknowledging the weakness of the “Russian collusion” narrative more than year into the investigation and media hysteria, CNN goes on to report
There was a small hole in the kitchen floor that led to a secret crawl space. That image is burned into my memory. The space was maybe five feet long by five feet wide. The owner of the house said, “They used to fit six people inside there. When the Nazis would come.” His name was Tadeusz Skoczylas, and the house we were in had belonged to his family during World War II. It was a small brick house in the town of Ciepielów, Poland. It had a red roof that had seen better days. The front door was just a few
President Donald Trump should abandon his merit immigration reform and simply let employers import cheap workers to ensure profitability, the Wall Street Journal recommends. The newspaper’s Editorial Board declared August 4: Senators Tom Cotton of Arkansas and David Perdue of Georgia have introduced legislation that would eliminate the green-card preferences for parents, adult children and siblings of U.S. citizens, which in effect would reduce legal immigration by 40%. Foreigners could also apply for up to 140,000 green cards via a government admissions process that awards points based on education, language ability, age, educational attainment and job skills … [But] any
Congressman Steve King of Iowa has been serving in Congress since 2003. He knows a thing or two about a thing a two. Though popular with Iowa voters, King is not nearly so popular with his political colleagues in D.C. who do not support his habit of telling it like it is. Here is just such an example of that. Congressman King lays out far better than any media pundit has to date the rampant and wide spread corruption that surrounded the Obama White House and the Clinton Machine. That corruption is the real political story of our time –
The media spin machine is on the defensive thanks to a more aggressive tone coming from Trump White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Sanders lays out the real collusion that exists between the Clinton Machine and Russia – collusion which the media (and Congress) continues to ignore. Longtime Clinton operative and former Hillary Clinton campaign manager John Podesta explains it away as “old news.” The CNN host simply nods her head. They are hoping that will be enough for the multiple Clinton collusion facts to go away. IT WON’T. The alternative media – the truth seekers, will continue to educate others
Here’s one angle to the Robert Mueller investigation that was entirely predictable.Special Counsel Robert Mueller is now seeking documents from the White House on Michael Flynn and his personal arrangement to lobby for Turkey during the 2016 election. Specifically they are looking into the financial aspects and whether Flynn masked the lobbying payments made to him. Before getting to the crux of the issue, CTH must remind everyone that back in November of 2016 when we first discovered (During the Transition) the possibility that Flynn was under consideration for ODNI or National Security Adviser role – WE WARNED this was going
The American Center for Law and Justice filed a FOIA request for information surrounding the infamous 2016 Arizona “Tarmac Meeting” between Bill Clinton and Attorney General Loretta Lynch during the ongoing Hillary Clinton investigation. The ACLJ has a summary of their initial review –SEE HERE– However, various internet researchers who have reviewed the initial 413 pages (pdf embed below) have discovered something very interesting. It appears Attorney General Loretta Lynch used an email alias in her communication to disguise her identity. Lynch’s alias appears to be “Elizabeth Carlisle“. (screen grab from page #163): (Snip)“Elizabeth” is actually the middle name of Loretta Lynch. Why
Fox News said it plans to investigate claims made by several current and former staffers that longtime host Eric Bolling sent lewd photos to at least three female coworkers — two at Fox Business and one at Fox News. “We were just informed of this late Friday afternoon via a Huff Post inquiry and plan to investigate the matter,” a Fox News spokeswoman told Philly.com Friday evening. According to the Huffington Post, which spoke to 14 sources in and out of the two networks, Bolling sent the unsolicited graphic messages several years ago, which included an image of a man’s genitalia.
The new Bruce Willis trailer for the remake of the 1974 flick, Death Wish, has been released and people are outraged over the violent vigilantism and rampant gun use. The ultra dark and hyper-violent tone of the trailer has Willis´ character Paul Kersey, whose family is shattered when his wife killed and his daughter viciously raped and paralyzed after a home burglary. He takes his revenge to the streets with an enormous arsenal of weapons. Movie critics and social media users commented on the tone deaf film. ´Pretty sure the NRA just found their next ad,´ wrote one Twitter user. ´Death Wish shouldn´t
Former First Lady Michelle Obama openly shared her disdain for life inside the White House. She even went so far as to demean it as a house “built by slaves” and that residing there was like “living in a cave.” Perhaps that has something to do with the fact the People’s House is now literally crumbling in disrepair as outlined today by the AP: Besides the replacement of the West Wing’s heating and cooling system, repairs are also to be made to the steps on the South Portico, the side of the White House facing the National Mall. Cosmetic upgrades, including interior
During an interview with the Arizona Republic, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) shot down the idea that building a big beautiful wall along the Mexican border will solve the issues of illegal immigration and the illegal drug trade. While the White House continues to push Congress to approve funding for the wall, McCain expressed skepticism that the Senate would jump on board the Trump administration’s vision, using a very famous wall as an example. “I’m not against a border wall, OK,” McCain noted. “But go to China and you’ll see a border wall there.” The Arizona lawmaker continued, “We need technology,
For a variety of personal and professional reasons, I did an epic amount of travel in the last year, across thousands of miles and several states, and there was one cultural constant: Everywhere I went were lots of people with tattoos. And it’s not just that people have tattoos, it’s the tattoos they have. At one point, I found myself in Breckenridge, gawking at the majestic Rocky Mountain scenery—imagine the “Sound of Music,” only swap Julie Andrews singing with a middle-aged dad yelling at the kids to stop complaining about the long drive. The view of the mountain valley was promptly
Sen. John McCain wants to revive his preferred method of immigration reform when he returns to Congress after being treated for brain cancer. Before leaving Washington for more treatment, McCain, R-Ariz., told The Arizona Republic that he spoke with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., about tackling immigration reform. (Snip) "Immigration reform is one of the issues I´d like to see resolved," McCain told the Arizona Republic in an interview published Thursday. "I´ve got to talk to him (Schumer) about when would be the best time. I think there are all kinds of deals to be made out there. I really
On Friday’s broadcast of ABC’s “The View,” Representative Maxine Waters (D-CA) stated that after President Donald Trump is impeached, Vice President Mike Pence won’t be a better president than Trump and should be impeached as well. One of the show’s hosts, Joy Behar asked, “Do you think Pence will be better than Trump if he were impeached? ” Waters answered, “No. And when we finish with Trump, we have to go and get Putin. He’s next.” Behar then asked Waters if she meant Putin or Pence, and Waters clarified that she meant Pence.
President Trump broke an obscure yet tried-and-true rule on Friday - don´t comment on the monthly jobs report within the hour of its release. This is the second time in recent months the Trump administration has violated the federal rule barring all executive branch employees, including the president, from making public comments on leading economic indicators before the hour deadline is reached. The long-standing federal rule issued in 1985 says that the executive branch must wait for an hour - 9:30 a.m. in the case of the jobs report and most other major economic indicators. But Trump took to Twitter
This week the Washington Post committed the greatest national security breech in the history of our country, and hardly anyone is talking about it. The Post printed transcripts of private telephone conversations between our President and the leaders of Mexico and Australia. The press is focused on the embarrassment the transcripts may have caused our President. Has the press gone mad? Do they not understand the consequences of what the Post has done? Are they so involved in their petty gossip that they don’t realize the Post has just endangered the ability of our President to communicate frankly and in
Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., expressed his party´s uncertainty about President Trump running for office again in 2020, according to a report Saturday. "They see weakness in this president," McCain told the New York Times. "Look, it´s not a nice business we´re in." The report takes into consideration interviews from over 75 Republicans from diverse levels of the party. It notes donors and strategists as being more hesitant to stand by a Trump 2020 run, and points out a break from tradition as possible candidates that in prior years may have respectfully laid low this earlier on in the presidency, have
NORFOLK - A retired attorney in Virginia Beach is so incensed that Republicans couldn´t repeal the Affordable Care Act he´s suing to get political donations back, accusing the GOP of fraud and racketeering. Bob Heghmann, 70, filed a lawsuit Thursday in U.S. District Court saying the national and Virginia Republican parties and some GOP leaders raised millions of dollars in campaign funds while knowing they weren´t going to be able to overturn the ACA, also known as Obamacare. The GOP "has been engaged in a pattern of Racketeering which involves massive fraud perpetrated on Republican voters and contributors as well
Two Republican senators who voted against the "skinny" healthcare repeal last week said they were concerned the bill cut funding for Planned Parenthood, and that they were working in the best interest of their states. "The issue of family planning services, cancer screenings, [and] women care probably does resonate with us more than it does with our male colleagues, and to me it was so unfair to single out one Medicaid provider and say to women in particular, ‘You can´t choose which health care provider you want to go to,´" said Maine Sen. Susan Collins, who appeared on CNN with Sen.
