Doctors: Ex-North Korea detainee

(Video)[Breaking news update, published at 3:50 p.m. ET] Released North Korea detainee Otto Warmbier suffered extensive brain damage and shows no current signs of botulism, doctors at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center said Thursday. The 22-year-old has not spoken or "engaged in any purposeful movements" since arriving in the country Tuesday night, said Dr. Daniel Kanter, professor of neurology and director of the Neurocritical Care Program. "He shows no signs of understanding language or responding to verbal commands," the doctor said, adding that Warmbier´s condition is best described as "unresponsive wakefulness." The doctors said they could not speculate on what caused his injuries.

Either what the good doctor said, or, since it is standard practice for NK guards to beat prisoners, maybe some kind of traumatic head/brain injury.

Very sad. Whether or not he should have been there is irrelevant with regard to his physical treatment. The NK regime has brutalized many of its people in the same manner. I am praying for this young man, who will undoubtedly need assisted care for the rest of his life, however long that might be under the circumstances. I am also praying for his family, who obviously loves him and will have to care for him now. No human being should be treated like this.

We have so very many snowflake-brained young people it boggles the mind. They want to go to these places where the government is ruling terrorist/warlord/thug regime and think that they will be immune to any kind of mistreatment. Surely this young man did not deserve what happened to him, but it does raise the question of whether or not he was properly educated about the nature of the NorK regime. I suspect his leftoid professors and other teachers left him intentionally ignorant or miseducated/indoctrinated. The predictable result is this tragedy. BTW, why just take the poster instead of asking if he might have it as a souvenir to display to his friends at home? The NorKs probably would have been flattered by the request.

He was probably tortured and beaten with a balk. Or rawhide torture may have been used on him. Strip of wet rawhide is applied around the neck. As it dries it gradually shrinks thus slowly but surely constricting blood flow to the brain.

Italy’s migrant welcome centers are in a state of “collapse” as huge waves of African migrants take advantage of the temperate climate to make the crossing from Libya to the Italian peninsula. On Tuesday, 8,500 African migrants are reaching Italian shores aboard 14 different ships, adding to the 5,000 who arrived on Monday. The massive arrivals have led local media as well as politicians to speak of an authentic immigrant “invasion” exceeding the country’s capacity of assimilation. Officials reported on June 15 that more than 65,000 migrants had arrived since the beginning of the year, but that was prior to the latest

Allies of President Donald Trump worry the latest battle between the administration and the press could have adverse affects on Trump´s ability to get his message out, especially as Senate Republicans struggle to pass a health care bill and the administration searches for a much-needed political win. Since Trump returned from his first foreign trip at the end of May, access to the administration in the form of daily press briefings has been slowly but surely curtailed. There´s now more off-camera briefings, and, in several instances, audio recording has been restricted. On-camera briefings, watched by millions of television viewers, have been

At least five GOP senators had said they were not prepared to vote in favor of a procedural measure that was slated to take place as early as Tuesday evening. That vote was necessary to begin the process that would have allowed the senate to take a final vote by the end of the week. Republican senators expressed their reservations about
