Trump requests $24.5-million-per-mile

The first leg of President Trump’s planned border wall will cost an exorbitant $24.5 million per mile, according to the 2018 budget he submitted Tuesday that details a massive shake-up in immigration policy. (Snip) In his proposed budget, Mr. Trump says he is looking for ways to calculate the “net budgetary effects” of immigration programs and policy. “Once the net effect of immigration on the federal budget is more clearly illustrated, the American public can be better informed about options for improving policy outcomes and saving taxpayer resources,” the president said in the blueprint. “In that regard, the budget supports

Comments:
This piece is brimming with transformative moves that have been overdue for years, but fully ignored by both parties. A border wall, mandatory E-verify, and immigration policy that strongly disfavors refugees, illegal aliens, and others who would burden the taxpayers. He also seeks a great increase in detention beds and deportations of illegals. Expect fierce opposition from the usual quarters.

This is so amazing. I can´t wait to see how conservative Republicans who have used some of these very requests to run for office react to this budget! Let´s see if they jump to the President´s side to help fight for the border and basic common sense immigration rules. This is going to be very interesting. Democrats will fight every inch. The Republicans will be on the hot seat and I hope Trump shames every one who refuses to help him do what America needs.

Good on the major parts of the immigration enforcement funding request, but the "Wall" isn´t going to be built and everyone involved knows it.

#2, I don´t know it and I do expect the President to keep his word. What I do know is that if he does not keep the promise that got him elected, he won´t be a two termer. Americans want the wall. It would be foolish of the President to renege on this.

I don´t care what it costs - whatever it is will be cheaper than entitlements for 35 million illegals who work for cash, tax free, and then send that money to Mexico.

Is there anything in the budget for tracking visa overstayers? They are 50% of the problem and THEY are the clever ones who come here specifically to leech off the system. They cross the border LEGALLY with shopper or family-visit visas knowing full well we have no way to track them. They fan out across the country through well-established networks and are in place and sucking off our system by the time their visas expires and they BECOME illegal. A wall will do NOTHING to stop them.
Compare them with the poor pathetic peons who would be stopped by a wall---those who dig a tunnel, climb a fence, cross a mountain or swim a river. They only want to keep their head down and get paid in cash for for agricultural or ranch work.
They both broke the law and they both deserve punishment. WHY is it that we can´t seem to find a way to track a visa overstayer just like we can track a UPS delivery?

House Republicans said Tuesday they’ve included $1.6 billion in funding for President Trump’s border wall in their new homeland security spending bill, setting up fight with Democrats who have vowed to block any wall funding — even if it means sending the government into a partial shutdown.
