Putting ‘Country Above
Party’ Works Both Ways

The Federalist, by David Harsanyi

Original Article

Posted By:Lalo, 5/19/2017 11:00:27 PM

Throughout Donald Trump’s short but eventful presidency, Democrats have been imploring Republicans to show loyalty for country over party. If you believe our bumbling president’s hiring of the likes of Paul Manafort or Mike Flynn, the latter of whom was apparently under investigation when he joined the administration, reflects abysmal judgement, I’m with you. If you believe those decisions could turn out to be scandals, it’s difficult for me to disagree. If you believe Trump’s admiration for authoritarians in Russia undermines our standing in the world, I’m there, as well. Then again, recklessly throwing around words like “impeachable” and “treason”

Comments:
Harsanyi is not a Trump fan; but neither does he want to see him railroaded by the mindless, lying press and left.

Leftist Ex-Rep. Dennis Kucinich:
Deep State sabotaging Trump

Former Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) — no Republican and definitely not a conservative — said what everyone in Washington knows but refuses to say: the “deep state” within the U.S. intelligence community is attempting to overthrow President Trump. “The political process of the United States of America being under attack by intelligence agencies and individuals in those agencies,” Kucinich said Wednesday evening on Sean Hannity’s TV show. You have politicization of agencies that is resulting in leaks from anonymous, unknown people and the intention is to take down a president. Now, this is very dangerous to America. It’s a threat

Even before Roger Ailes died, the House That Ailes Built was falling into ruin. It was an American twist on a tale familiar to readers of Evelyn Waugh — how the wreck of a great estate parallels the downfall of the man who tried to rebuild it. Except Ailes did not rebuild, he created. Fox News was his brainchild, a glimmer in his eye as far back as the days when he was a media consultant to Richard Nixon. With Fox News, Ailes beat Ted Turner and CNN. He beat MSNBC and its corporate overlords, which at one time included

House Speaker Paul Ryan said Friday that he’s “never seen anything like” the leaked recording on which House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy can be heard saying, supposedly jokingly, that he believed Russian President Vladimir Putin was paying then-GOP candidate Donald Trump and Rep. Dana Rohrabacher. In a story datelined from Kiev, Ukraine, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday that McCarthy could be heard on a recording of a meeting from last summer saying “there’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump” and punctuating his remark amid laughter from his GOP colleagues by adding “swear to God.” Ryan quickly

In 2012, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher received a warning from the FBI that Russian spies were attempting to recruit him as an “agent of influence,” the New York Times reported Friday. Although the California Republican has long been among the Kremlin’s most outspoken defenders on Capitol Hill, officials told the Times that Rohrabacher was not believed to have been paid by Russia, nor is he considered to be actively working with Moscow’s intelligence officials. Rather, he was unwittingly being targeted as someone who could guide U.S. policy in Russia’s favor. In an interview with the Times, Rohrabacher confirmed the 2012 meeting

In the wake of yesterday´s more nuanced piece of press criticism, and in light of the Harvard study Lauretta wrote up earlier, it felt like a bit of trolling might be in order. If you missed her post, she highlighted the findings of a review conducted by researchers at the prominent Ivy League university regarding media coverage of President Trump´s first 100 days in office. Unsurprisingly, Trump set a new record for negativity, with eight out of every ten stories about his administration framed in a negative manner. This far exceeded the hostility encountered by his three immediate predecessors --

Earlier today, President Donald Trump reiterated his long-held stance that there was no collusion between him and Russia when it comes to election interference. At the same time, he added a little caveat, stating that he could only speak for himself, perhaps throwing his associates and campaign members under the bus. Of course, this was all in relation to the announcement of ex-FBI Director Robert Mueller a special counsel in the Russia probe. Well, during a pretty wild little segment on CNN, famed lawyer Alan Dershowitz let it be known that he doesn’t think Mueller has any jurisdiction when it comes

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) is expected to become the next chairman of the House Oversight Committee, replacing Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) in the high-profile post when he leaves Congress late next month, according to multiple senior House Republicans. Gowdy, who chaired the House Select Committee on Benghazi, has started buttonholing members of the House Steering Committee in recent days to build support. Five members of that panel, which decides committee assignments, told Politico that Gowdy would easily win a race for the job should another member challenge him. If he does clinch the chairmanship, Gowdy would oversee the sensitive investigation into whether

President Donald Trump may be dramatically miscalculating how much support Sen. Joe Lieberman has among his former Democratic colleagues to become FBI director. Some Senate Democrats hold a grudge against Lieberman for his rightward turn and opposition to some of President Barack Obama´s agenda late in his Senate career. Others say even though they respect Lieberman, the FBI director should not be a former politician. And all Democratic senators interviewed for this story said the former Connecticut senator lacks the kind of experience needed for the post. Immigration arrests climbed yet again in April as federal agents continued to track down both criminal and noncriminal aliens in far greater numbers over the first 100 days of the Trump administration than they did under former President Barack Obama a year ago. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations deportation officers administratively arrested 41,318 illegal immigrants on civil immigration charges between Jan. 22 and April 29, according to agency data released Wednesday. That was a 38 percent jump over the 30,028 arrests made in the same time period in 2016, the final year of the Obama administration.

Although the White House denies that President Trump asked then FBI Director James Comey to “let this go” — “this” being the agency’s investigation of his fired national security advisor Mike Flynn — Comey’s contemporaneous memo suggests that it may well be true. If so, the Comey account presents a complex constitutional issue: Can a sitting President be guilty of obstruction of justice for asking the director of the FBI to let go of an investigation of a former White House aide? The FBI is part of the executive branch of which the President is the head. Under the theory of the

Comey was fired by Trump last week amid conflicting accounts about how the decision was reached. Lieberman, a former senator from Connecticut who was Al Gore´s running mate in 2000, is a top candidate for the position, Trump confirmed Thursday. Graham praised Lieberman as

Right now, the very best you can say about Donald Trump is that he stinks at this whole president thing — in large part because he keeps creating trouble for himself and entirely on his own. Yes, the media are against him. Yes, the Democrats want his scalp. But everyone inclined to indulge President Trump in his self-pity about how he’s being badly treated by others in Washington and badly served by his own staff is ignoring the basic facts of the political situation he is bungling at present like no one has bungled it before.
