Putting ‘Country Above
Party’ Works Both Ways

The Federalist, by David Harsanyi

Original Article

Posted By:Lalo, 5/19/2017 11:00:27 PM

Throughout Donald Trump’s short but eventful presidency, Democrats have been imploring Republicans to show loyalty for country over party. If you believe our bumbling president’s hiring of the likes of Paul Manafort or Mike Flynn, the latter of whom was apparently under investigation when he joined the administration, reflects abysmal judgement, I’m with you. If you believe those decisions could turn out to be scandals, it’s difficult for me to disagree. If you believe Trump’s admiration for authoritarians in Russia undermines our standing in the world, I’m there, as well. Then again, recklessly throwing around words like “impeachable” and “treason”

Comments:
Harsanyi is not a Trump fan; but neither does he want to see him railroaded by the mindless, lying press and left.

Congressman Ron DeSantis from Florida says in an exclusive interview with The Daily Caller News Foundation that the FBI has a “fresh start” following James Comey’s firing, and now it’s time President Donald Trump clean out the IRS, starting with Commissioner John Koskinen. In this wide-ranging video interview, he spoke with passion, authority and principle on issues ranging from media bias, the IRS, James Comey’s testimony, terrorism, the Paris Treaty and Obamacare. A graduate of Harvard Law School and decorated veteran, DeSantis was elected to the House in 2012, ran for the Senate in Florida until Sen. Marco Rubio re-entered that

Susie Breitbart, the widow of Breitbart News founder Andrew Breitbart, talked to Greg Gutfeld of Fox News on “The One with Greg Gutfeld” about her husband’s storied career in an interview last week. Gutfeld began with a story of his own: how he met first met Andrew Breitbart while writing for the Huffington Post, which Andrew helped launch and edit. It was when Andrew encouraged Gutfeld to follow his own instincts (as opposed to micromanaging his talent) that the Fox News personality realized that Breitbart had “major balls.” “I remember that, and I remember hearing about you long before I

Dear Reader (I hope you can find a way to read this “news”letter), One of the super-trendy talking points these days is to say that conservatives who are critical of Donald Trump suffer from “Trump Derangement Syndrome.” It’s original as it is clever. Don’t get me wrong, I certainly think you can make the case that some members of the self-styled left-wing “resistance” are indeed out of their gourds. Longtime readers might remember one of my favorite quotes from Thoreau: “Some circumstantial evidence is very strong, as when you find a trout in the milk.” Similarly, if you find yourself

Thousands of Georgia residents who depend on food stamps are losing their benefits because they have failed to meet the state’s new requirements that force the able-bodied without children to find jobs. These new work requirements have been rolled out in phases for the past year. The latest round impacted approximately 12,000 people in 21 counties. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported more than half of them, or 7,251, were dropped from the food stamp program because they were not working. The program will eventually be expanded to all of Georgia’s 159 counties, so thousands more people are going to either

If you´re looking for American ingenuity and technological prowess to help resolve the climate issues that face the world, the Paris Climate Pact is not for you. The pact is a voluntary agreement among countries including the world´s worst polluters (this is axiomatic, since only Nicaragua and Syria are not signatories, and thus far, chemical agents dropped on civilians have not been classed as "pollutants"). Nearly 200 countries are encouraged (not required) to make plans based on their own priorities and commitments to their own people – except the United States, it appears. The goals of the pact are strikingly modest

The Trump administration has approved tens of thousands of temporary amnesties for illegal immigrant Dreamers, according to numbers released Thursday that underscore a major reversal for President Trump. The decision has enraged the president’s conservative base, which hoped he would make good on his promise to revoke the policy, known in governmentspeak as DACA. But immigrant rights advocates, who were harshly critical of Mr. Trump during the campaign, said he deserves some credit for defying his right wing and keeping the program intact. “I definitely think that he does deserve credit for continuing a very successful program for young people

The Justice Department has had perhaps the roughest ride of any Cabinet branch during the first 100 days of the Trump administration, facing hostile judges who have blocked the president’s immigration plans, the ouster of the acting attorney general and even accusations of racism leveled against Jeff Sessions during his confirmation hearing for attorney general. But the department, working arm in arm with the Department of Homeland Security, also has covered the most ground when it comes to implementing the administration’s priorities. Mr. Sessions has been able to reverse course on Obama-era policies, including deploying more immigration judges to the border

Being rich is more pleasant than not being rich for many reasons, one of which is that the more money you have, the less society´s rules and obligations weigh on you. You slide through life using your wealth and connections to avoid the hassles and complications that occupy ordinary people, seldom having your choices impeded by what others or even the government demand of you. In theory the rules apply to everyone, but in practice there are almost always ways around them that are only available to a few. WASHINGTON – Democratic lawmakers on Wednesday introduced legislation that would automatically register voters who transmit information to state and federal agencies, potentially adding 50 million new voters around the country. In introducing the legislation on the House Floor, Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) discussed Shelby County v. Holder, a 2013 Supreme Court decision that struck down certain aspects of the 1965 Voting Rights Act and eliminated the need for nine states to seek federal approval for altering voting laws. Central to the decision was the debate over racial discrimination through polling laws. Controversial voting laws in Texas and South Carolina went into effect

So much for defanging the poisonous debate in Washington. Dozens of congressional staffers erupted into boos, jeers and even vulgar gesticulations Thursday when President Trump appeared in a video at the Congressional Baseball Game at Nationals Park. Mr. Trump delivered a message of unity, but some fans in the stands weren’t having any of it. One man shouted an expletive at the video screen as Mr. Trump was telling the fans: “We are showing the world we will not be intimidated by threats.” The episode marred what had been a night celebrating those wounded in Wednesday’s murderous attack on GOP players practicing for
