GOP senator wouldn’t be ‘surprised’

Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) said Friday evening he wouldn´t be "surprised" if Robert Mueller, the special counsel appointed to oversee the federal Russia investigation, intervened to stop former FBI Director James Comey from publicly testifying on Capitol Hill. Grassley, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, made the remark on Twitter shortly after criticizing Comey´s decision to not testify before his own panel. Comey has agreed to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is probing Russia´s election interference. (Tweet) The GOP chairman issued a statement earlier in the evening calling on Comey to consider his decision to not testify

That is the nice thing about a special counsel, he takes the wind out of all the blowhard´s sails. No more Chunkie and Naci demanding this or that.

President Donald Trump has evoked strong criticism from politicians and pundits after telling reporters on Tuesday that there were “very fine people on both sides” in Charlottesville. But support for the president’s claim has come from an unlikely source: the “failing” New York Times, which interviewed one of those “very fine” people for an article otherwise critical of Trump, arguing that his remarks have led to a widening split in the Republican Party. The Times reported Wednesday evening: ”Good people can go to Charlottesville,” said Michelle Piercy, a night shift worker at a Wichita, Kan., retirement home, who drove all

Ald. Ray Lopez (15th) on Thursday accused President Donald Trump of emboldening vandals to set fire to a bust of Abraham Lincoln that has stood as a symbol of freedom in West Englewood for nearly a century. Lopez said Trump’s widely-condemned decision to twice blame “both sides” for the white nationalist rally that turned deadly in Virginia has emboldened haters. “When you have a President who, from his point of moral authority as leader of the free world, condones the actions of white supremacists, neo-Nazis … when he refuses to refute what their actions are — you embolden people to

Three members of Antifa were arrested Wednesday night after they tangled with Chicago police outside of a courthouse on the city´s northwest side. The "protesters" were clad all in black with black bandanas covering their faces. They claimed to be there to demonstrate against a man facing arraignment inside the courtroom, who they said had ties to "white supremacist" and "right wing" groups. But what started out as a run-of-the-mill leftist rally featuring the same, old, tired, scripted chants ("Racist, sexist, anti-gay, Neo-Nazis go away!"), ended in a melee after Chicago police showed up to try to contain the demonstration.

A new Marist poll finds that 62% of Americans believe statues of Confederate leaders should be allowed to stand. What’s more, a majority of self-identified “Soft Democrats” say Confederate monuments should remain. The survey of 1,125 adults (at least 18 years of age), conducted August 14-15, 2017 and sponsored in collaboration with NPR and PBS NewsHour, asked: “Do you think statues honoring leaders of the Confederacy should?” Results for “Independent” respondents mirrored that of all respondents, while Democrats favored removing the statues and Republicans were strongly in favor of preserving them: “Remain as a historical symbol”: Total: 62% - Democrats:

Cats can sleep for up to 16 hours a day and some freaky felines have come up with more unique ways to catch some Zs. Owners have been sharing pictures of their cats squeezing themselves into tiny spaces while they settle down for some rest. In a gallery put together by Bored Panda, cats can be seen living up to the old adage if it fits, they sit. One cheeky critter made himself comfortable in the cup of his owner´s bra, curling up in the underwear after she took it off. One cat managed to squeeze herself inside her salad

China is providing Harvard University with $360 million that a former military intelligence analyst says appears to be part of an effort to influence one of America’s most important educational institutions. Anders Corr, a former government analyst who specializes in foreign influence operations, stated in a letter to Vice President Mike Pence that a Chinese military-linked company, JT Capital, gave $10 million to Harvard in 2014, the same year the family of Ronnie Chan, a Hong Kong real estate mogul with ties to China, announced it is giving $350 million to the university. Members of the national media are disputing President Trump´s decision to blame the "alt-left" for engaging in acts of violence, and many say there is no such thing even though the term has been used for months. Trump said in a Tuesday press conference that "both sides" bear some of the blame for the violence at a white supremacy rally in Charlottesville, Va., and asked why reporters were ignoring reports that the "alt-left ... came charging at the ... alt-right." Afterward, some journalists and news organizations delved into his use of "alt-left" as though he had coined it on the spot. "Trump

A crowd of ignorant protesters pulled down a bronze Confederate statue that stood before a county government building in Durham, North Carolina — the angry national backlash to the Charlottesville brouhaha over the Robert E. President Trump should have left well enough alone. His Monday denunciation of costumed sheet-wearers and Nazi wanna-bes could have cleared the way for Americans of all stripes to focus their outrage on things that matter more than presidential words. That would be the violence that is infecting our politics and the frightening acceptance of it as the new normal. But Trump’s defiance yesterday is sure to keep the media pot boiling over his rhetoric instead of an ominous reality. Namely, that real protestors don’t carry baseball bats, crowbars and mace. As James Bond’s nemesis Auric Goldfinger famously observed, “Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence. The third time is enemy action.” On Tuesday evening, three prominent Republicans — Senator John McCain, Senator Marco Rubio, and 2012 presidential candidate Mitt Romney — endorsed the left-wing media’s preferred narrative and embraced the masked thugs of Antifa as heroes. McCain and Romney used almost identical language, bending their knees to the media narrative that only two factions were present in Charlottesville during the awful events of last weekend: white supremacist Nazis and “Americans standing up to defy hate and bigotry.”
