Agenda: Shortly after Donald Trump won the election, House Speaker Paul Ryan said that Republicans had to "go big, go bold, and do things." So far, the GOP has not delivered. "They have the House, they have the Senate, they have the presidency — and nothing´s happening," lamented PJ Media co-founder Roger Simon earlier this week. "Nothing, that is, that Donald Trump doesn´t do by himself. ... The Republicans in the legislature are a disgrace." Congress did pass, and Trump signed, 13 bills to undo last-minute Obama administration regulations. And the Senate approved Trump´s Supreme Court pick. But what about actually advancing
I think to RINO agrnda is to none of Trump´s agenda. The Uniparty is happy with Washington as it is. Just increase the debt limit, everyone gets funded with a CR, and even though this year has had historic tax receipts, they still spent close to a Trillion more than revenue.
Everyone in DC gets what they want. Screw Trump and his flyovers. Next year if RINOs are a minority in House and/or Senate, same results for DC as this year. Happy Happy Happy.
It´s been a travesty since 2008 where the democrats rubber-stamped every stupid idea to emerge from Obama´s coconut and the RINOs sat idly by and watched the carnage from their safe leather seats, the ones who bothered to show up for work. What Congress didn´t do, the LGBTQ Supreme Court did. The work isn´t over yet folks.
Of course it is a Travesty. The GOPe know what the citizens think of their non-action, yet it changes nothing. They are so morally bankrupt that all the are concerned about is the money that flows from the groups that own them, and pay for their re-election.
Paul Ryan has got to be aware of the negative opinion of millions of Americans, yet it impacts him not in the least. As long as the Chamber of Commerce, and K-Street Lobbying Groups fill his wallet he is content to ignore the needs and wishes of the citizenry. It really is criminal.
Equally frustrating is the Do-Nothing FBI when it comes to the Obama / Clinton scandals. Obama´s Fast & Furious illegal gun running? The Pigford black farmers scandal? IRS Tea Party scandal? The domestic spying scandal? Poof! Nothing to see there.
Hillary´s email scandal? Her Foundation´s bribe solicitation scandal? The Russian uranium scandal? Also poof! Not reassuring for swamp draining that FBI Director Comey has 3 more years as head of the Bureau.
I was wondering this in the last few days....The media has been obsessed with what Trump has or has not accomplished in the first 100 days, but what has the congress done in that same period? Not much at all apparently.
The media created the ´´100 Day´´ milestone, based on supposed public for the new guy. Now, if all campaign promises are not completed in that amount of time, the media uses it to pronounce failure of an administration (as long as it is a Republican administration).
The sooner, the better for some issues, but I am more concerned with what is accomplished in the first term of the administration. By then, the first 100 days will be long forgotten.
I agree with all but the last sentence in the article. Ryan has already shown that he is either incompetent or purposefully sabotaging the President´s agenda. It hardly matters which. He needs to go now!
I agree 100%. The Uni-Party is in full action mode. Words in media mean nothing anymore. It´s still all about the Agenda!
I recd a letter just yesterday from the RNC begging more money. I was a life long Pubbie and damn proud of it. When the Republicans allowed Loretta Lynch to become AG, I resigned. That ripped the blanket for me. The Republicans showed their true colors on that one. We desperately need a new party.
No more money to the Republicans until I see absolute proof they have stopped being idiots!
Republicans are proud and happy to be in bipartisan control of our post Constitutional country. Personal political power has transcended individual liberty and freedom. To see McConnell and Ryan sitting on each side of Trump with big Cheshire Cat grins and ear to ear smiles on their faces is beyond disgusting. They are pushing the ultimate sales pitch on Trump to lock in full government control over healthcare and big government spending and crony capitalism. Vampires in charge of the blood bank.
The Republicrats were caught by surprise by Trump´s victory. They had no plans because they didn´t need any except to "resist" under Hillary. That didn´t stop them from claiming to have various plans ready to go.
The other problem is that the Republicrats are suffering a deep case of cognitive dissonance. They are undoubtedly under the impression that Trump is unpopular and going to fail - so they need to keep distance so as not to be tarred with "disaster" themselves.
Obamacare is a classic - the GOP election hook was "repeal" (and that includes Trump), but the operative foolishness is to "replace", but retaining two of the most "popular" expensive/onerous bits: Pre-existing coverage, and "kids" up to 26.
The Feds ought to get OUT of meddling in the cost of medical services. If anything, expand medical schools to "flood" the US with American doctors, and make legit medical services tax deductible from dollar one - no special accounts or other tax dodge programs are necessary. But, then that´s taking a risk...and with Trump, that may not be wise.
Per 8, I never write my congresscritters, because as a boy I read the story of King Canute. Also, our Speakster of the House and Senate Leader spent so much time as obama´s palace eunuchs, that now, when they are in control, they lack the "wherewithal" to get things done. That, and they are self-serving, malicious, tiny little weasels.
If WTP could put Pres. Trump in office against all odds, we CAN change our Senators and Representatives. They are there because we reelect them term after term! It will take a lot of time to pass term limits amendment, but reelections come around regularly. Get involved, work the party locally and state, let´s get new, honest, patriotic men and women in those abused seats.
Regulation: It´s no accident that Washington, D.C., has become known as the graveyard of promises. It´s exceedingly rare that a promise made in the nation´s capital is a promise kept. That´s why it´s great to report that President Trump has kept a big one — to cut two regulations for every new one passed. With a month to go in the fiscal year, the American Action Forum (AAF) decided to take a hard look at Trump´s regulation-cutting pledge. Along with cutting regulations, the plan envisioned having a net new cost of regulation of $0 or less. How did Trump do? "While there have been some hiccups,
Monetary Policy: The Fed, after eight years, has finally declared its war against the financial crisis of 2007-08 is over. Like so many other wars in this nation´s history, it should have been over long ago. Now, the "Great Unwinding" begins. On Wednesday the Fed officially began its long, and no doubt eventful, process of unwinding its massive balance sheet, built up in the aftermath of the Great Recession in one of the biggest, and most misbegotten, monetary experiments in economic history, dubbed Quantitative Easing. Beginning next month, the Fed said it will begin trimming the $4.5 trillion balance sheet simply by not reinvesting
Competition: Almost exactly 20 years ago, a federal judge ruled Toys R Us had illegally used its market muscle to keep toy prices high. Today the company is filing for bankruptcy protection. In a free and open market, dominance yesterday guarantees nothing tomorrow. Toys R Us once seemed like an unstoppable force. The number of stores in the U.S. more than doubled from 1987 to 1995, when it accounted for 20% of all toy sales in the country. People complained that it was driving mom-and-pop toy stores out of business. It was seen as an international threat. In 1993, the Independent fretted that "in the eight years since the
Wiretapping: The U.S. government under President Obama wiretapped former Trump campaign Chair Paul Manafort in New York´s Trump Tower under "secret court orders before and after the election," CNN reported, citing "three sources familiar with the investigation." Assuming CNN´s report is true, it means President Trump, who was ridiculed earlier this year for claiming that his iconic building had been wiretapped, has been massively vindicated. But don´t hold your breath waiting for an apology. Just months ago, Trump was called a liar and worse for his tweets alleging that Obama had Trump Tower
Elections: Have you noticed that even the most ardent Trump haters haven´t been pining for a Hillary Clinton presidency? In case anyone had any doubts as to why, her post-loss antics have cleared it up. In a lengthy interview with National Public Radio — one of countless she´s given to promote her 512-page finger-pointing new book — the host asked Clinton if she would "completely rule out questioning the legitimacy of this election." Her answer: "No, I would not." She lamented that "I just don´t think we have a mechanism" to do so. But then she went on to spin a rather bizarre conspiracy theory that attracted little attention.
Millennials, through no fault of their own, have been hit the hardest over the last decade by the Great Recession, the outrageous price increases of higher education, and failing ObamaCare. Millennials have seen double-digit unemployment and a 700% increase in the cost of education since the 1990s. In today´s lopsided economy, college degree-worthy jobs have disappeared and minimum-wage and part-time employment have become the norm due to the disastrous Affordable Care Act. Millennials are left, on average, with $35,000 of student loan debt. And many are often out of work, or they´re working for the minimum
U.N.: President Trump will present a set of wide-ranging reforms for the United Nations this week that will actually force the dysfunctional organization to begin living up to its lofty ideals. This may be the corrupt, badly disorganized U.N.´s final chance at survival. Trump had harsh things to say about the U.N. during last year´s election. Sadly for the U.N., none of them was fake news or an exaggeration. The U.N. is corrupt. The U.N. is ineffective. The U.N. is wasting billions of U.S. taxpayer dollars. Trump — and his able ambassador to the U.N., Nikki Haley — have proposed a 10-point
Health Reform: After nine fruitless months, Republicans have finally come up with an ObamaCare replacement plan that is simple and appealing, and that should easily pass the Senate. Will the GOP blow it again? Put together by Sens. Bill Cassidy and Lindsay Graham, the plan would take the money being spent on ObamaCare´s insurance subsidies and Medicaid expansion, and give it to states in the form of fixed block grants. States would then have wide latitude in how they spend the money — for example, they could use it to set up high-risk pools, reduce out-of-pocket costs, pay providers or
Taxes: Is the GOP getting serious about tax reform at last? Republicans in Congress say they´ll unveil the outlines of a consensus plan in two weeks, as President Trump hits the hustings to stump for tax reform. We hope this isn´t another false start. "Reform" is one of those words that sounds easy, but really isn´t. Every political interest group has a dog in the fight, and no one wants to give up a cherished deduction. And few politicians want to be seen as cutting taxes on Americans in the top income brackets or corporations, a sure way to be
Promises: Is President Trump going back on a centerpiece of his campaign and the rallying point for much of his base? It sure looked like it. Trump should know, however, that he will get nothing in return from Democrats. There is always the temptation in Washington for conservatives to give up on their principles, if only to gain a reprieve from the endless negative coverage. When it happens, the press typically describes the betrayal as "growing in office." Trump was hardly a rock-ribbed conservative when he came to Washington. His stated positions on health care, drug prices, trade and other issues put
Health Reform: Democrats are lining up to endorse Sen. Bernie Sanders´ plan to socialize medicine. But have they actually read what it is they are signing up for? Sanders touts his "Medicare for all" as the solution to all our nation´s health care woes. No more premiums, no more deductibles or copays, no provider networks. The government would pick up all the costs, except for possibly minimal copays for prescription drugs. Private insurance would be effectively outlawed. A third of Senate Democrats co-sponsored Sanders´ bill, and a similar measure in the House has 117 Democratic co-sponsors. Sanders is now the standard-bearer for
If you can´t win, change the rules. Democrats and progressive activists are joining forces to urge the U.S. Supreme Court to interfere in how election districts are drawn in all 50 states. In Gill v. Whitford, they´re challenging how Republican lawmakers in Wisconsin drew the state´s election map. The justices will hear the case on Oct. 3. If they decide to strike down Wisconsin´s map and dictate new rules for election map making, it could turn winners into losers and vice versa across the country. Republicans, who have been on a winning streak and now control both legislative houses and the governor´s
Hillary Clinton compared herself to Revolutionary War hero Paul Revere on Tuesday, saying that she is “Paula Revere” sounding the alarm on Russian active measures during the 2016 presidential campaign. (Snip) In her interview, Clinton suggested that she has led the push to call out the Russian government and Russian president Vladimir Putin about their involvement in the U.S. election. “I am saying as clearly as I can — I feel like I’m a bit of a, you know, Paula Revere — I’m trying to sound the alarm about this,” Clinton said to a smattering of laughter and applause. Clinton’s
If you had plans for the weekend, a Christian numerologist says you won’t get to them because the world is about to end. David Meade, a self-proclaimed “researcher,” is predicting that a series of apocalyptic events will begin on Sept. 23 and, “a major part of the world will not be the same.” According to Meade, the mysterious rogue planet Nibiru, also known as Planet X, is on a collision course with Earth, which will bring world-ending tsunamis and earthquakes. The numerologist claims the dates of recent events like the Great American Solar Eclipse and Hurricane Harvey’s flooding of Texas were all marked in the Bible.
Special Counsel Robert Mueller´s team is reaching back more than a decade in its investigation of Paul Manafort, a sign of the pressure Mueller is placing on President Donald Trump´s former campaign chairman. The FBI´s warrant for a July search of Manafort´s Alexandria, Virginia, home said the investigation centered on possible crimes committed as far back as January 2006, according to a source briefed on the investigation. The broad time frame is the latest indication that Mueller´s team is going well beyond Russian meddling during the campaign as part of its investigation of Trump campaign associates. Manafort,
Hillary Clinton´s "What Happened" had a big debut. Clinton´s book about her stunning loss in 2016 to Donald Trump sold more than 300,000 copies in the combined formats of hardcover, e-book and audio, Simon & Schuster told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The book´s hardcover sales of 168,000 was the highest opening for any nonfiction release in five years, according to NPD BookScan, which tracks around 85 percent of retail print sales. Mark Owen´s "No Easy Day," a 2012 memoir about the killing of Osama bin Laden, sold more than 250,000 copies in its first week. Sales for "What Happened"
A new fifth grade teacher at Canopy Oaks Elementary is asking students to use gender-neutral pronouns in the classroom. Math and science teacher Chloe Bressack sent the request home in a letter to parents headlined "About Mx. Bressack." “... my pronouns are ´they, them, their´ instead of ´he, his, she, hers.´ I know it takes some practice for it to feel natural,” the letter reads, “but students catch on pretty quickly.” The letter also asks that students use “Mx.," (pronounced ´Mix´) when addressing the teacher rather than Mr. or Ms. The note alarmed some parents. In a post written Tuesday night in the Facebook group
United Nations - The Latest on President Donald Trump and North Korea (all times local): 8:00 a.m. Former Secretary of State John Kerry says President Donald Trump´s United Nations speech may have put America in isolation and danger. Appearing on MSNBC´s "Morning Joe" show Wednesday, Kerry criticized Trump´s harsh rhetoric against North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Kerry said, "You have to ask yourself: Is America safer because of ´rocket man?" He was referring to Trump´s characterization of Kim. Kerry said that kind of harsh language will make it harder for the United States to engage in diplomacy on
In Federalist No. 68, his pseudonymous essay on “The Mode of Electing the President,” Alexander Hamilton wrote that the Electoral College could shield the United States “from the desire in foreign powers to gain an improper ascendant in our councils.” (Snip) Hamilton and his colleagues never could have envisioned a year like 2016, when an enemy state—Russia—was able to manipulate America’s election process with stunning effectiveness. But it’s clear the national security rationale for the Electoral College is outdated and therefore it should be retired. Simply put, it enables foreign powers to more easily pierce the very shield Hamilton imagined
Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown of California compared President Donald Trump supporters to prehistoric cave dwellers Monday during a New York climate event. Brown, an outspoken Trump critic, issued an usually harsh derision of Trump supporters after dismissing the president’s rhetoric on climate change science and U.S. policy toward North Korea as “stupid and dangerous and silly.” “They’re both kind of very similar,” Brown said. “You should check out the derivation of ‘Trump-ite’ and ‘troglodyte,’ because they both refer to people who dwell in deep, dark caves.” Brown attended the climate event, which coincided with the U.N. meeting in New York,
U2 frontman Bono unloaded on President Donald Trump in a Rolling Stone interview published Wednesday, revealing that his Irish rock band’s new album will take on the “bully on the bully pulpit” because “silence is not an option.” In January, U2 founding guitarist The Edge revealed that “Songs of Experience,” the band’s follow-up to its platinum-selling 2014 album “Songs of Innocence,” was delayed because of Trump’s election. Now Bono says “there’s a couple of reasons why we delayed Songs of Experience. One personal, one political.” “The world around us was certainly changing out of all recognition, we nearly lost the
Lawrence O’Donnell had a really bad night on August 29, 2017.We draw that conclusion based on the above clip obtained by Mediaite, showing behind the scenes footage of a furious O’Donnell absolutely going bananas in what appear to be breaks in his show. The video, which lasts a full eight minutes, is a collection of clips from one evening (given O’Donnell’s consistent outfit) and show the MSNBC anchor fuming about earpiece malfunctions, blasting off obscenities and screaming at his staff. We were able to link it back to the August 29 show. After introducing a clip about President Donald Trump, O’Donnell pauses,
Former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper suggested on Wednesday that "it´s possible" that President Trump´s voice was picked up in a wiretap as he spoke with his former campaign manager Paul Manafort. "It´s certainly conceivable," Clapper said on CNN. When asked by host Don Lemon if it was likely, Clapper said he couldn´t say, but again asserted that there is a chance. "I wouldn´t want to go there, but I will say it´s possible," Clapper said. (Video) A CNN report earlier in the week said that Manafort had been wiretapped under a FISA warrant over suspicions that Manafort had encouraged some
Armed FBI agenst with guns drawn busted into Paul Manafort’s home as Manafort and his wife lay in bed. The FBI agents insisted on searching Kathleen Manafort for weapons — after they barged into her home. This is Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ FBI. Sessions needs to go now. (Tweet) The New York Post reported: Gun-wielding FBI agents busted into Paul Manafort’s home as he was asleep in bed and even searched his wife for weapons, it was revealed Tuesday. Agents took an unusually tough approach in executing a search warrant, dealing with potential financial crimes by President Trump’s former campaign chief,
