for activists fighting Trump’s
immigration policies

Washington Times, by Stephen Dinan and S.A. Miller

For weeks, immigrant rights groups had searched for the right case to highlight their battle against President Trump’s get-tough immigration policy. They think they’ve found it this week in Juan Manuel Montes-Bojorquez, a Dreamer who went public with his story that he was deported despite having been approved under the Obama administration’s temporary amnesty. Top Democrats in Washington seized on the case, with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi calling Mr. Montes outstanding and saying his deportation was a disgrace to American values. Sen. Richard J. Durbin, Illinois Democrat, demanded explanations, saying Homeland Security Secretary John F. Kelly had personally promised last

Nancy, what about Montes-Bojorquez is “outstanding"?

CBP said it couldn’t verify Mr. Montes’ contention that he had been in the U.S. since age 9. The agency said its first encounter with him was in 2010, when he tried to enter without authorization and instead accepted a quick deportation.

It’s unclear how he managed to be approved for DACA in 2014. The terms of DACA require illegal immigrants to have lived in the U.S. continuously since 2007.

And CBP said he never mentioned DACA status when he was picked up and deported. If he had, it would have made no difference as he’d have broken the DACA agreement by going back to Mexico.

It seems pretty clear that he tried to make up a story about being deported on February 18 (some articles have said February 17), the deportation CBP has no record of, to explain why he was in Mexico and trying to get back in on February 19.

This “clever” kid would be the worst kind of American resident. A scofflaw who always has a story.

Trump´s Biggest Achievement in His
1st 100 Days? Stopping the Left

President Donald Trump´s biggest achievement in his first 100 days? Easy. He stopped the left. Measure Trump´s first 100 days not just by looking at what he has or has not accomplished. Look at what America would have experienced under the alternative: Hillary Clinton. Under Clinton, the debate would not be on how to replace Obamacare, but how quickly can the left realize its ultimate ambition, a Canadian-style, single-payer system. Under Clinton, the issue would not be how steep the tax cuts, but how many "rich" people, also known as job creators, would experience yet another growth-restricting tax hike. Under Clinton, the $100

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA, a.k.a. Obamacare) has been an utter mess. From passage in 2010 with procedural gimmicks to implementation in 2013 with unworkable software, from the loss of doctors and health plans millions wanted to keep to escalating premiums and insurers dropping out of the market, Obamacare has fallen short of nearly every conceivable goal of health-care reform. There’s one single exception: Obamacare has dramatically expanded health insurance coverage. This single remaining reason explains why it retains the support of progressives and a significant chunk of the electorate. All other considerations are secondary, if not irrelevant.

An estimated 346 employees in the Department of Veterans Affairs do no actual work for taxpayers. Instead, they spend all of their time doing work on behalf of their union while drawing a federal salary, a practice known as "official time." That´s according to a report by the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office. But exactly what those VA workers are doing and why so many are doing it is not clear. The VA doesn´t track that, and the GAO report offers no clue. Rep. Jody Arrington, R-Texas, a member of the House Veterans´ Affairs Committee, thinks the number on 100 percent official

Good and bad news about

There’s much to like about President Trump’s tax plan, including the fact that he’s going back to his campaign promises to do something big and beautiful — not build a wall, but slash rates Ronald Reagan-style for both individuals and corporations. That will take an economy that even in its best quarters is growing well below average and transform it into something that will create jobs and decent wages — which the American people haven’t seen in about a decade. That’s the good news, but there will be plenty of bad news in the days and weeks ahead, as business

In a move being dubbed, “Build it and be banned,” California legislators are proposing to impose a permanent ban for government contracts on any company who takes part in the project. Legislation to fund the government will not have a provision guaranteeing money to fund Obamacare subsidies, Speaker Paul Ryan said Wednesday, even as top White House officials were negotiating with Democrats who are pushing to include subsidies. Democrats had been hoping the spending bill would add language ensuring the subsidies, known as Cost Sharing Reductions or CSRs, are maintained, due to a threat from the Trump administration that it would stop making those payments. But Ryan, R-Wis., threw cold water on that scenario Wednesday. "We aren´t doing that," Ryan told the Washington Examiner. "That´s not in an appropriations bill. That´s something separate that

U.S. District Judge William Orrick issued the temporary ruling Tuesday in a lawsuit over the executive order targeting so-called sanctuary cities.
