“Everything in moderation” can be sage advice, especially when it applies to government and gluttony. When the administrative state sticks to its proper limited role, costs are contained and taxes are bearable. But the bloated administrative state snacks on billions and feasts on trillions. As Americans hustle to file their last-minute tax returns for 2016, Donald Trump’s promised relief is obviously too late to lessen the burden this tax season, which ends Tuesday. If help doesn’t come soon, hope for an era of renewed prosperity will soon be but a fading memory. Reality can make a hash of hope, and the
The same politicians who serve to prevent any meaningful reform measures will soon be lined up in front of the cameras to declare their profound disappointment at Trump and his lack of legislative success.
If I were Trump....I´d start a big, hot, raging war which would serve to unite us all again......like the few weeks of sanity and unity we had shortly after 911.
We need a REAL common cause....not the phony-baloney BS of ´inclusion´ and ´diversity´.
We have spent decades being huffed and bluffed and intimidated by countless tin-horn dictators.
I´ve had enough.
It´s time to bring in the exterminators and rid our precious planet of all the fleas and ticks and cockroaches which have invaded our only home while we were partying and neglecting to clean the kitchen and ´Do the Dishes´.
Patience you fools. It took almost a century to put this conglomeration of rules, restrictions and twisted logic together. Anybody who works in private industry knows instinctively that you don´t give design jobs to accountants.
BTW I´m still waiting for Obama to pay off my mortgage.
Tax laws are written by Congress. So, are the editors of the Washington Times ignorant of this, or deliberately lying? Either way, this does not help preserve the small remnant of credibility that the media claims to have.
Saturday´s ugly events in Charlottesville culminated in a neo-Nazi protestor plowing his car into a crowd of his adversaries. He allegedly killed Heather Heyer, a young woman who had been excercising her right to free speech. Attorney General Jeff Sessions is rightly giving a high priority to the investigation, and President Trump has finally gotten around to issuing a proper condemnation of the white nationalists who brought their hate-fest to Charlottesville. Yet beyond this, Saturday´s events represent a serious failure of government. Neither the death of Heyer nor the general mayhem were inevitable. They could have been prevented if authorities there
There is nothing "right" about racism and hate. It’s a learned disease, and the best antidote is unity. This weekend’s events involving white supremacist groups are as disturbing and disgusting as they are heartbreaking. The attack was a stark reminder of the darkness of hate. We must come together, as we have before, to confront the issues that chip away at the very foundation of who we are and what we stand for as a country. Unfortunately, the people of South Carolina know this type of domestic terrorism all too well. Our response to the events in Charlottesville, Va., should mirror
If you are one of those hidebound individuals who believe that the distribution of taxpayer funds from the U.S. Treasury is a congressional prerogative clearly delineated in Article I of the Constitution, Judge Thomas C. Wheeler of the U.S. Court of Federal Claims has some bad news for you. Wheeler has handed down summary judgments ordering the government to pay two separate insurers a total of $266 million that Congress has declined to appropriate. He awarded Moda Health $214 million in February and, two weeks ago, he awarded $52 million to Molina Healthcare pursuant to Obamacare’s unfunded “risk corridor” program.
Democrats have been given an enviable political landscape, with an opposition president at a historically low approval rating and scandal besetting his White House. But they risk potentially blowing it due to a lack of central leadership, diffuse organizational structures and disputes over tactics and issues. That’s the fear that some top officials harbor as they gear up for the 2018 elections: that the party has yet to learn its lessons from the 2016 cycle; that a horde of newly organized political groups are drawing money away from party infrastructure; and that a lack of a singular leader has complicated the
In the middle of the Justice Department’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s mishandling of classified information during the 2016 campaign, Phoenix ABC morning anchor Christopher Sign broke the bombshell news that Attorney General Loretta Lynch held a clandestine meeting with former President Bill Clinton. Obviously a secret conversation between Clinton’s husband and the attorney general overseeing her investigation raised alarms among many Americans. But as was so frequently the case from the years 2008-2016, major media reporters were less than enthusiastic in the face of a potential major Obama administration scandal. Newly released emails showed Washington Post reporter Matt Zapotosky doggedly pursued the
The Democratic Party is tearing itself apart, with the forever war between the leftist Bernie Sanders and centrist Hillary Clinton wings of the party erupting once again into open think-piece warfare over the last week. Bodies are strewn everywhere from The New Republic to The Washington Monthly. Left-on-left Twitter looks like Day 110 of The Battle of the Somme. But while the struggle for the party´s ideological soul is important, it is a massive distraction from the critical work of containing the menace of the Trump administration. Messy internecine fighting is also unnecessary. Democrats are being pulled inexorably to the left
Would a fair society have exactly the same percentage of men and women, of whites and blacks and Hispanics and Asians, in every line of work and occupational category? If your answer is yes, and you think that any divergence from these percentages must necessarily result from oppression, then you qualify for a job at Google. If not, forget about it. In your own life, you may have observed that few occupational categories — certainly not that of Google engineers — have such gender and ethnic percentages. You probably guessed that this results in part from people with different characteristics tending to
‘We’re after leakers, not journalists,” Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said Sunday. Cancel the panic over a supposed Team Trump media crackdown. Yes, the Justice Department is “ramping up” efforts to ID and prosecute leakers, as Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced Friday. After all, Justice in the past six months has “received nearly as many criminal referrals involving unauthorized disclosures of classified information” as in the prior three years combined. That prompted hysteria like the Politico headline “Jeff Sessions’ Attack on the Media Is Worse Than You Think.” But Rosenstein put the kibosh on that: “Reporters who publish information are not committing a
An Austin Texas psyche rock band, Dream Machine, is deported from its label because its lead singer, a refugee from Bosnia, makes supportive remarks about legal immigration. (Here is a link to an interview I did with the band: https://vimeo.com/225709341) Feminist critics attack the movie "Dunkirk," an historical reenactment of the World War 2 evacuation, because well—It was the first time there were no women on a French beach. Outcry erupts when a Broadway play tries to substitute theater legend Mandy Patinkin for a black actor in a play, to help save the play from closing due to declining ticket sales. Unable
While GOP quislings like Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander cobble together a plan to save the health care “reform” law they promised to repeal, and the Democrats demand a new stream of taxpayer money for insurance company bailouts, Obamacare is destroying the foundation of our medical delivery system. During 2016, twenty-one hospitals were forced to close. During the first two months of 2017, another five went under. The facilities that you count on for major medical care are closing at a rate of two per month, and the pace of hospital closures has been steadily accelerating since Obamacare was launched.
´Unmasking´ Scandal: Day by day, the scandal of the Obama administration´s abuse of domestic intelligence gathered by the National Security Agency grows. Forget the phony Russia-Trump collusion charges — the Obama White House looks increasingly to have committed a crime by using U.S. intelligence for political purposes. The NSA´s insatiable gathering of data and conversations on Americans make it a potentially highly dangerous enemy of Americans´ freedoms. Who would want to have a federal government spy shop that knows almost everything you do in public, on the phone, by email, or by computer? That´s why the super-secret NSA, which is much bigger
In his July 6 speech in Warsaw, President Trump pledged America to the “defense of civilization itself.” Here in simple terms is the emergence of a Trump doctrine: “The bonds of culture, faith and tradition that make us who we are.” By referring to the spiritual foundations of Western civilization, the president echoes our collective civilized humanity: The laws and culture that undergird western civilization. During World War II, Winston Churchill declared that we were fighting to defend “Christian civilization.” When this statement was criticized by detractors as narrowly ethnographic, he defended his position by noting what separates our civilization from
Marshawn Lynch, a runningback for the Oakland Raiders, sat and ate a banana during the national anthem on Saturday before the Raiders’ first preseason football game against the Arizona Cardinals in Glendale, Arizona. Lynch did not play during the game, and the Raiders’ coach said Lynch’s actions were a “non-issue.” Although Lynch said he has been doing this for 11 years, photos and videos show he stood on many occasions for the national anthem in recent years. Lynch reportedly was not present in the locker room after the game, according to CBS Sports. However, the Raiders’ coach, Jack Del Rio, said
BRIDGEWATER, N.J. — White House officials, under siege over President Trump’s reluctance to condemn white supremacists for the weekend’s bloody rallies in Charlottesville, Va., tried to clarify his comments on Sunday, as critics in both parties intensified demands that he adopt a stronger, more unifying message. A statement on Sunday — issued more than 36 hours after the protests began — condemned “white supremacists” for the violence that led to one death. It came in an email sent to reporters in the president’s traveling press pool, and was attributed to an unnamed representative. It was not attributed directly to Mr.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), America’s largest Muslim civil rights group, is calling on state and local governments all over the United States to tear down all monuments and memorials commemorating Confederate leaders and the short-lived Confederate States of America. CAIR joined several groups asking for the removal of Confederate memorials in the wake of a “Unite the Right” white supremacist rally that turned violent over the weekend. (Snip) Nihad Awad, CAIR’s national executive director, urged state and local governments to erase every symbol and every vestige of Confederate history immediately. “A fitting response to the deadly terror attack
Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett said he plans to sit during the national anthem for the entire season after staying on the bench for the anthem during Seattle’s first preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Bennett said he was motivated by the events in Charlottesville and wanted to speak out on racial injustice. On Sunday, Bennett remained on the bench with a towel around his shoulder pads while the rest of his teammates stood for the anthem. “First of all I want to make sure people understand I love the military — my father was in the military,” Bennett told reporters. “I love hot dogs like any other
Hundreds of pro-Trump demonstrators and anti-Trump counter-protesters converged at Westlake Park in downtown Seattle on Sunday, resulting in several arrests and the confiscation of weapons. The rally, organized by the conservative group Patriot Prayer, came one day after violent clashes in Charlottesville, Virginia, that left three people dead and dozens injured. Counter-protesters -- including antifa, Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), Veterans for Peace, Indivisible Seattle, Black Lives Matter, and the Freedom Socialist Party -- marched "in solidarity against hate," specifically against what they called “the bigotry, racism and violence" of the "far-right" organizers. Solidarity Against Hate counter-protesters waved communist flags,
Rep. Maxine Waters excoriated President Trump on social media Sunday for his response to the violence in Charlottesville, Va., saying the White House is now the "White Supremacists´ House." "Trump has made it clear - w/ Bannon & Gorka in the WH, & the Klan in the streets, it is now the White Supremacists´ House. #Charlottesviille," Waters wrote on Twitter, referring to White House chief strategist Steve Bannon and deputy assistant to the president Sebastian Gorka. The California Democrat added, "Trump refuses to condemn white supremacists & terrorists who showed up in Charlottesville. Is he sending a signal? Everyone must
In Gainesville, Florida, workers hired by the Daughters of the Confederacy chipped away at a Confederate soldier´s statue, loaded it quietly on a truck and drove away with little fanfare. In Baltimore, Mayor Catherine Pugh said she´s ready to tear down all of her city´s Confederate statues, and the city council voted to have them destroyed. San Antonio lawmakers are looking ahead to removing a statue that many people wrongly assumed represented a famed Texas leader who died at the Alamo. Some people refused to wait. Protesters in Durham, North Carolina, used a rope to pull down the nearly century-old
President Donald Trump insisted on Monday that he and his administration forcefully denounce the ´evil´ embodied by white supremacists and other bigoted hate groups whose weekend rally in Virginia left one woman dead and 20 others injured. ´Racism is evil. And those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans,´ the president said at the White House. ´We are a nation founded on the truth that all of us are created equal. We are equal in the eyes of our
A Chick-fil-A customer only realized she got more than she ordered after she bit into her chicken sandwich and found a dead rodent. Ellen Manfalouti, 46, took legal action last week against the fast food restaurant after she found a small rodent baked into her sandwich in Langhorne, Pennsylvania, according to Philly.com. The Holland resident is seeking $50,000 for the Nov. 25 incident. Manfalouti said that a co-worker brought the meal back to their workplace after picking it up from the Chick-fil-A drive-thru. While eating in a conference room, Manfalouti said that she noticed there was something off about the sandwich.
Protesters toppled a Confederate monument in Durham, N.C. on Monday night. Video posted to Twitter shows protestors surrounding the statue and chanting "No KKK! No fascists! USA" as several protestors appear to pull down the statue with a rope. WNCN reports the statue was dedicated in Durham in 1924 and was located in front of a local government building. The statue represented a soldier who fought in the Civil War and an inscription on the front read "The Confederate States of America." One organizer of the protest told WNCN that toppling the statue was in response to the violence at a white supremacist
If President Trump pardons former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, it “would be an official presidential endorsement of racism,” the American Civil Liberties Union said on Monday. Arpaio, now 85 years old, is famous for his tough stand on illegal immigration. He was convicted two weeks ago of criminal contempt for violating a court order instructing him to stop detaining people suspected of being in the country illegally. Fox News interviewed Trump on Sunday at his club in Bedminster, N.J. “I am seriously considering a pardon for Sheriff Arpaio,” Fox quoted the president as saying. “He has done a lot
Former RNC chair Michael Steele says there is no other conclusion to be drawn: President Donald Trump is a racist. Speaking on the Steele & Ungar show — which airs on Sirius XM’s POTUS channel — the former RNC head blasted Trump’s response to Charlottesville. “This playing to the – it’s not even baser instincts. This is just raw, ugly, racism and hatred,” Steele said. “What, for votes? And so this is the Frankenstein monster that’s been created from a campaign that gave license to that.” Co-host Rick Ungar mentioned that a listener sent him an email asking if Steele thinks Trump
