Taxes: Democrats say they won´t work with President Trump on tax reform unless he first releases his tax returns. This has to be the lamest excuse for not fixing the tax code we´ve ever heard. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said this week that "if he doesn´t release his returns, it is going to make it much more difficult to get tax reform done." Democrats say that seeing Trump´s tax returns is critical to tax reform, because otherwise how would anyone know if changes to the tax code will benefit Trump. As Schumer put it, "releasing his own full tax returns (would) erase
The recent vote for the supreme court proved that Mitch realizes he has the power of the majority in the Senate, and if he can hold the RINO´s to vote the party line, Schumer and the democrats are kicked to the curb.
In that instance, Schumer can take any unreasonable position, demand anything, or refuse to cooperate--but it doesn´t mean a thing.
Perhaps the Dems aren´t as politically ´smart´ as they had convinced us they were. This is Machiavellian stupidity on their part. The RINO wing of the UniParty, wanting to please their Wall Street donors, want at least a corporate tax cut, if not full tax reform. These are the same Congresscritters who would block changing the cloture rules for legislative matters.
Thus, Senator Satan (Schumer) may be ´outsmarting´ himself by setting the stage for ridding us of the century old Senate ´tradition´ and getting us back to the way things were for the first 130 years of our Republic. President Trump now holds the key: withhold release of the tax returns, and the filibuster is history.
And that would be a very good thing for WTP, who support economic growth, border security, and American job creation more than we care about Mr. Trump´s tax returns at this point. That ship has sailed.
That said: depending on RINOs to do the ´right thing´ is always risky business, if not a fools errand at this point.
Cutting Taxes: President Trump´s much-awaited tax reform plan is here. As promised, it will deeply cut taxes, make the code simpler and help restore economic growth, job creation and entrepreneurship. It´s the most pro-growth tax plan since the Reagan Boom, and that´s saying a lot. At the unveiling of the tax reform plan on Wednesday, the White House described it as "the biggest individual and business tax cut in American history." That´s no lie. And here´s a surprise: one group that will especially benefit, but seldom gets mentioned, is Millennials. If Trump´s supply-side tax-cut magic works as it should, many of these young
Regulations: One of the least appreciated decisions by President Trump has been his appointing Ajit Pai to run the Federal Communications Commission. Pai has long been a skeptic of the FCC´s manhandling of industry, and is pushing to get the government out of the internet. The FCC imposed "net neutrality" rules on the internet in February 2015. The argument made by consumer groups and some industry players was that — without federal intervention — internet service providers would treat traffic differently, charging more for those who seek to get in the fast lane. Net neutrality would, advocates said, keep the
Taxes: If White House rumors are correct, President Trump is about to make slashing the corporate tax rate to 15% the centerpiece of his tax-reform plan. It´s a smart move. Not only will it kick start the economy and job growth, but it´s likely he´ll be able to get bipartisan support. Right now, there is no consensus on broad-based tax reform. So, at least for now, a broad tax reform package including tax cuts, fewer deductions and a flattening of tax rates may be tough to achieve. Even Republicans, who are eager for some kind reform, remain split on how
Immigration: By threatening to shut down the government, Democrats got President Trump to back off his demand for money to start building the border wall this year. But so what? Illegal crossings are already way down thanks to Trump´s other actions. And Democrats came off looking like out-of-touch hypocrites. Trump had wanted Congress to include $1.4 billion in the spending bill it has to hurry through to keep the government from shutting down for border wall construction. As CNS News points out, that´s less money than the Treasury receives in a given four hours. Nevertheless, Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Nancy Pelosi
What does it say about environmentalists that a stand-up comic made famous in the 1970s by listing seven dirty words you couldn´t say on TV has far more insight about the Earth than one of the green movement´s most influential leaders? Is there any other conclusion to draw from a recent New York Times op-ed by Bill McKibben headlined "The Planet Can´t Stand This Presidency"? In it, McKibben — who founded 350.org and teaches environmental studies at Middlebury College (where students recently physically attacked libertarian Charles Murray for trying to give a speech) — declares that President Trump poses both an immediate
For ordinary Americans, the one way you draw a $400,000 paycheck is to do something to create value. This is the story of very hard-working small businesses everywhere. As one wag put it several years ago in a book title: The first $20 million is the hardest. Then there´s Obama, fresh off his billionaire vacation over in Tahiti at Marlon Brando´s exclusive hideaway estate, now drawing his first $400,000 paycheck for a ... speech, from Wall Street firm Cantor Fitzgerald. Cue the music: We´re in the money, come on, my honey Let´s spend it, lend it, send it rolling along
A Russian-Armenian captive has escaped from Colombian guerrilla fighters in a shootout worthy of an action movie. The man disarmed his guard and seriously injured five of the militants, in the process receiving a gunshot wound himself, the rebels say. The man, identified as Arsen (Levon) Voskanyan, a dual Russian-Armenian citizen, took his rescue operation into his own hands and broke free from Colombia’s second largest militia, the National Liberation Army, which is more commonly known by its Spanish acronym, ELN. At the time of Voskanyan’s heroics a convoy was actually on its way to release him at the request of the
So what´s behind the sudden deluge of migrants flooding Europe? According to the Italian prosecutor´s office, it´s non-government organizations, seeking to keep a problem boiling in order to win more funds, funds, funds for all their supposed do-goodery. It´s no different from a fireman who sets fires in order to put them out and find himself hailed a hero. Or a wicked stepmother who poisons her child in order to win sympathy for all her heroic caregiving. The BBC reports: An Italian prosecutor says he has evidence some of the charities saving migrants in the Mediterranean Sea are colluding with people-smugglers.
Andrew Cuomo seems like someone who could teach Donald Trump a few things about making a deal. Or else, he is corrupt and has been bribed. Which explanation fits the facts better? Lydia O’Neal of IBTimes reports on the very lucrative agreement Cuomo made with a major corporation that has been lobbying him. The New York governor, whose memoir was published by the News Corp.-owned HarperCollins in 2014, saw his gross income more than double last year, to $417,748 for 2016 (from $196,243 the year before), the Buffalo News reported Tuesday.
What holds Venezuela together these days? According to the New York Times, this state is held together only by an encircling ring of death-squad gangs, who serve as its enforcers. These are the community organizers known as ´colectivos´ who ride and circle around menacingly on motorcycles, and shoot randomly into crowds to generate terror. I saw them myself in Caracas in late 2005, and they were scary. Now, they are engorged with drug cash and legitimized by the state. Who could have imagined that this tontons macoute situation would be the logical conclusion of Chavista socialism?
What could possibly motivate Maxine Waters to claim twice that she never called for Donald Trump´s impeachment when the video evidence is so compelling? It is one thing for conservative websites to call her out, but even MSNBC, the broadcast leader in Trump-hatred, is taking notice of the absolute falsity of her claim. Yesterday, in an on-air discussion among Hallie Jackson, Craig Melvin, and Mark Murray, the California congresswoman was explicitly called out for her denial of reality: JACKSON: "... pretty strong words from somebody else on the other side of the aisle. Maxine Waters, right? The congresswoman [indecipherable] during that interview
Two days ago, the death toll in Venezuela´s gargantuan protests stood at three. Now it´s jumped to 20. In absolute numbers, it´s appalling. But to some, it may not seem like much, given that Venezuela has one of the world´s highest murder rates, or that millions and millions of people marched against the socialist regime, which has systematically shut down democracy and closed off all legitimate avenues for change by stripping the opposition-controlled legislature of power, corrupting the courts, and ruling by decree as poverty and narco-crime engulf the country.
President Barack Obama considered being homosexual as a young man, according to a forthcoming biography of the president. The biography by David Garrow, “Rising Star: The Making of Barack Obama,” is set to come out on May 9. Garrow wrote a Pulitzer Prize-winning biography of Martin Luther King Jr., and is a regular contributor to The New York Times and The Washington Post. The “Antifa” far left Communist group has managed to get an entire parade and carnival canceled in Portland because the Multnomah County Republicans were going to be in the parade. (Photo) The communists threatened to riot, loot, assault people at the parade. The festival people decided to cancel the entire weekend of activities, which was going to be this weekend due to the threats of violence by the leftist group. The Antifa group promised to rush the parade and drag away the Republicans. “We will have two hundred or more people rush into the parade into the middle and drag
House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Jason Chaffetz could potentially be unable to work for up to a month due to a medical emergency. Chaffetz took to Instagram Wednesday to announce doctors at the University of Utah recommended immediate surgery on his foot to prevent a serious infection caused by screws from a former injury. “Almost 12 years ago, I shattered several bones in my foot which required 14 screws and a metal plate to repair,” he said in the caption. “Yes, I wish I could say I was cliff diving in Mexico but the truth is I
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., argued Thursday that President Trump and Republicans in Congress will have "doo-doo stuck to their shoe for a long time" if they pass the revised American Health Care Act (AHCA). The comments came a day after the AHCA received a boost in support from the House Freedom Caucus, which announced it would back the bill. "I think President Trump is really making fools of the members of Congress, of his own party," she said in her weekly press conference. "He´s asking them to vote for a bill that is wildly unpopular in the country,
Chelsea Clinton urged the importance of fighting hunger as she was honored at a New York charity gala on Tuesday night. The former First Daughter, who is a Vice Chair of the Clinton Foundation, was presented with the City Harvest Award for Commitment for her support of the organization through volunteering with the Clinton Foundation´s Day of Action program. She wore a colorful patterned dress, black cardigan and nude heels to the event on Tuesday, which was also attended by Chrissy Teigen, actress Bridget Moynahan, Real Housewives Of New York star Bethenny Frankel and domestic goddess Martha Stewart.
Although President Donald J. Trump promised to defund Planned Parenthood if elected president, and the GOP House and Senate often claim that they want to defund the group, there reportedly is no language in the continuing resolution to fund the government through next September to defund Planned Parenthood, a group that has performed approximately 81,567 abortions since Trump´s inauguration on Jan. 20. That´s about 877 abortions per day, 36 per hour, or 1 every two minutes. The continuing resolution, or CR, is a funding mechanism that -- absent a budget and the regular appropriations process -- wraps federal spending into
The United Nations warned the Trump administration earlier this year that repealing ObamaCare without providing an adequate replacement would be a violation of multiple international laws, according to a new report. Though the Trump administration is likely to ignore the U.N. warning, The Washington Post reported the Office of the U.N. High Commission on Human Rights in Geneva sent an "urgent appeal" on Feb 2. The Post reported that the confidential, five-page memo cautioned that the repeal of the Affordable Care Act would put the U.S. “at odds with its international obligations.” The warning was sent to the State Department and reportedly said
I HAVE been a practising Christian all my life and a deacon and Bible teacher for many years. My faith is a source of strength and comfort to me, as religious beliefs are to hundreds of millions of people around the world. So my decision to sever my ties with the Southern Baptist Convention, after six decades, was painful and difficult. It was, however, an unavoidable decision when the convention´s leaders, quoting a few carefully selected Bible verses and claiming that Eve was created second to Adam and was responsible for original sin, ordained that women must be "subservient" to byline corrected by staff
In the past week, vandals have repeatedly defaced property at the prestigious University of Texas-Austin, spray-painting a hammer and sickle symbol and words like “rapist,” “racist” and “kill frat boys” on at least four fraternity houses. Last Friday, the vandals published an anonymous manifesto on It’s Going Down, a website that describes itself as “a media platform for revolutionary anarchist, anti-fascist, and autonomous anti-capitalist and anti-colonial movements.” In it, the vandals urge students to join them in terrorizing fraternities. The self-professed “Vandals of UT” say they are responding to no specific incident but “the everyday crisis that is rape culture,
ESPN laid off 100 employees on Wednesday as part of a company-wide restructuring. The struggling cable sports network first announced the layoffs last month. “We have long been about serving fans and innovating to create the best content for them. Today’s fans consume content in many different ways and we are in a continuous process of adapting to change and improving what we do,” ESPN said in a March statement. “Inevitably, that has consequences for how we utilize our talent. We are confident that ESPN will continue to have a roster of talent that is unequaled in sports.” Among those who were
First Lady Melania Trump may be known for choosing simple yet elegant designer frocks, but on Thursday she opted for a more daring olive green ensemble for her latest meet and greet at the White House. The 47-year-old wife of President Donald Trump donned a military-inspired jacket and matching skirt from the Altuzarra Spring 2017 runway collection as she and her husband met with Argentine President Mauricio Macri and his wife Juliana Awada in Washington, D.C. The designer´s ´Feday´ gabardine military jacket with python-print piping costs a whopping $2,995, while the matching skirt featuring asymmetrical buttons added another $1,120 to
San Francisco based Federal Judge, William Orrick, issued a preliminary injunction today blocking any attempt by the Trump administration to withhold funding from “sanctuary cities” that do not cooperate with U.S. immigration officials. Judge Orrick said president Trump has no authority to attach new conditions to federal spending.(Snip)Judge Orrick is a campaign bundler to former President Obama for over $200,000, and is married to a pro-abortion activist. You might remember Judge Orrick from 2015 when he blocked the release of videos made by the Center for Medical Progress, the group that unveiled Planned Parenthood’s participation in the sale of organs harvested
