‘Shattered’ Charts Hillary Clinton’s
Course Into the Iceberg

New York Times, by Michiko Kakutani

Original Article

Donald J. Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton in November came as a shock to the world. Polls, news reports and everything the Clinton campaign was hearing in the final days pointed to her becoming the first female president in American history. In their compelling new book, “Shattered,” the journalists Jonathan Allen and Amie Parnes write that Clinton’s loss suddenly made sense of all the reporting they had been doing for a year and a half — reporting that had turned up all sorts of “foreboding signs” that often seemed at odds, in real time, with indications that Clinton was the favorite

...who argued that the campaign needed to work harder to persuade undecided and ambivalent voters (like working-class whites and millennials), instead of focusing so insistently on turning out core supporters.

I assume that the Dead qualify as core supporters?

This is the bullet we dodged:

"the portrait of the Clinton campaign that emerges from these pages is that of a Titanic-like disaster: an epic fail made up of a series of perverse and often avoidable missteps by an out-of-touch candidate and her strife-ridden staff that turned “a winnable race” into “another iceberg-seeking campaign ship. It’s the story of a wildly dysfunctional and “spirit-crushing” campaign that embraced a flawed strategy (based on flawed data)"

And it was written by those favorably disposed.

My Spidey sense is tingling...

In the excerpts I´ve read to date there are facts of course but there is also a tone of deference and, frankly, it´s strongly implied that Hillary Clinton was an honest broker and her team were simply outplayed on the field.

In other words, the book suggests that campaign hubris and poor strategy are most responsible for the loss. Any port in a storm, obviously, but Clinton´s 25 year history of annoying and antagonizing America, her baseness of character, her willingness to do or say anything and her complete lack of personality save for the unpleasant bits actually caused the loss. Oh, and then there´s the small matter of fraudulent ´foundation´ and the email server.

She had a resume filled with titles but no achievements.

There was a perfect storm of other factors, of course, that contributed to Clinton’s loss, including Russian meddling in the election to help elect Trump;

Of course. If not for the Russians forcing would be Hillary voters at Putin-Vulcan Mind Meld gunpoint to vote for Trump, she´d have won in a landslide and my tape measure would have measured my new window rough opening the real length instead of exactly one inch too short. Damn Russians.

It was the bottle hot sauce in her purse that finally did it for me and I just had to vote for Trump!/s

Good grief she was a dysfunctional candidate, barely alive like #3 posted, everything was fake about her, and her admission of hating of everyday Americans and lying about Benghazi were her good attributes. Terrible despicable old hag. The "Iceberg" was her own creation.

#3, I don´t think that was the moment, as it illicited a lot of sympathy for the old tottering hag. I think it was the deplorables comment. There was no way for her to spin that and I´m sure that a lot of fence-sitters were insulted and disgusted by it. It was also a big clue as to how she would govern, or as Jarrett said, "rule".

We didn´t dodge a bullet. We dodged a nuclear warhead.

FTA: "“Evolving the core message” remained a continuing struggle." because there wasn´t any, except that she "wasn´t Trump".
What is always given short shrift in all these postmortems is the astonishing actuality, i.e. Clinton outspent Trump by nearly 2:1. Money is the mother´s milk of politics. That Clinton could not win a national election with what was an enormous financial advantage, is absolutely shocking. And nowhere do these deferential (to Clinton) analyses ever bring up the fact that the same NBC that wouldn´t release the video of the Juanita Broddrick televised interview, somehow found and released the never meant for broadcast Billy Bush video for their pal HRC which her campaign was sure would knock Trump out for good.

The fact that postmortems of the HRC campaign are the topic of endless columns and discussions is just another sign of the bias of our media. They live in a liberal bubble, where no one exists except Democrats. Had Trump lost, he would be only a source of endless jokes, no postmortems, no analyses, no nothing.

Don´t blame the iceberg. The USS Sir Edmund came out of the shipyard with no rudder, no (moral) compass, no sextant, a beam that was too wide and the stem looking much like the stern. She drank the bottle of champagne instead of allowing it to be broken on her bow and she had no captain, no crew and no fuel. Her only purpose in life was collecting treasure and running over all who sailed in her path. Flying an American flag did nothing to hide the Jolly Roger and the Hammer and Sickle that flew on the same mast. Eventually, the iceberg floated her way and there was nothing she could do about it.

For the life of me I have never seen someone not on the campaign trail except in elite circles to raise money. It was quite obvious Hillary´s entire team thought it was in the bag. Staying shut in sleeping off vodka hangovers and living off of vitamin juice just to appear in a small hand picked crowd is not a winning strategy. The old hag really blew it with the ´basket of deplorables´ comment to gain a laugh from an LGBTQ crowd that´s what really sunk her. Who cares but we dodged a MOAB bomb on this one.

Sorry for the second post, but this is very rich soil that needs to be tilled.

FTA: "...even some of her close friends and advisers think that Clinton “bears the blame for her defeat,” arguing that her actions before the campaign (setting up a private email server, becoming entangled in the Clinton Foundation, giving speeches to Wall Street banks)..."

Notice only ´some´ of her close ´friends´ [ha!] think The Beast is to blame. As always with the First Grifters, follow the $$$$. There is a pattern of behavior: the e-mail server, the Clinton Foundation, and the screeches (oops, I meant ´speeches´) to Wall Street banker all mean the same thing. An insatiable greed for mo´ money, mo´ money. Forget honing a message, just make sure that check cleared from that donor.

The establishment really was smacked in the head by a 30-pound flounder! I was reading a copy of GQ from November 2016 while on the elliptical machine at the gym the other day. The editor´s letter (of course written weeks before the election) was a page-long screed against Trump and his inevitable loss. "Go and proudly punch Donald Trump in the face with your vote against him to ensure his huge loss" was the closer. Absolutely delicious in hindsight! I´m still smiling thinking about it.

I haven´t yet read this book although it´s on order. In a review of it in this morning´s WSJ, there is mention of an episode after her 2008 loss to Barack Obama. She was convinced she had been sabotaged by some staffers. So, she searched all the emails for evidence. This was not a technically clueless woman who had no idea what her server in the bathroom was doing in 2015. She was a paranoid shrew.

I just saved $17.43 on Amazon! Reading this review I came to the conclusion the book would be too much like reading all about the deep study of a lump of lard. I personal believe I know all there is interesting to know about Hillary Clintons failure as a Presidential candidate. And, interestingly, I know exactly why American voters rejected her: It was simply Hillary Rodham Clinton. She just might be the worst Presidential candidate in the history of American Politics. And that list of terrible candidates is amazing, because it includes candidates like Ross Perot, Mike Dukakis, Walt Mondale, Gerald Ford and General George B. McClellan!

#3, not just the toss into the Scooby van, but it was a cumulative avalanche of sick, old, tired, maybe Parkinsons, what-health-problems-is-she-hiding, Her staff and media (same thing) making Orwellian statements, "she is as healthy as can be". WaPo "Style Icon" Hillary (then Twitter users posted hilarious pix of her in her housecoat at fundraisers). All of that plus the decades of sheer brazenness of her money grubbing.

Thank you Robby Mook for your false sense of confidence, doing just enough to keep Hillary from firing you. We loved it when you gave a tired, "Mmmm hmmm", to the question posed by Matt Lauer, ´ think it was, "Have you vetted all the Clinton Foundation contributors to make sure there is no conflict of interest with Hillary´s tenure as Secretary of State?". ha ha ha ha.

´ guess Hillary never bothered to look at Ted Kennedy´s Chappaquiddick moment and what it did to his political career, long term. Oh sure he got to remain a Senator, unfortunately for life but never again would he be a worthy contender for the presidency , after he abandoned that woman drowning in the water. That was just one scandal on Ted and Hillary has a virtual buffet of scandals to choose, select from. No way anyone can ditch all those scandals and become president. America knows how to correct a problem.

A raving lib on another forum surprised me just before 2016 election day and conceded Hillary lost the election when the video showed her stumbling around, whilst getting into the Scooby van, like a binge drinker on vacation.

Another re-writing of the truth.
Russia didn´t meddle in the election. She put her private emails out in the public for anybody to find.

She lost Wisconsin and Michigan in 2008 when Obama decimated the country, and they steadily lost votes in the 8 years since.

She was never going to win. The endless polling the campaign had the media pump up was never believed by any of us ´rubes´.

This is a re-write of 2008. Trying to convince voters that she learned her lessons, mistakes were made and now they know not to make them again. So, here we are, 2016, and yet another book on mistakes were made, and she will do better next time.

She´s a horribly corrupt woman from a horribly evil and corrupt family and she will never win. Ever.

Her loss had much to do with being a third Obama term, and all the problems surrounding it. Beyond that, there wasn´t much of a strategy.

A third term for hardcore lefties, their causes, and certain identity groups. Many people said no thanks. Hillary and her handlers actually thought people were buying all that leftist garbage.

Consider how much more lopsided Hillary´s loss would have been if the media hadn´t propped her up.

Not sure anyone could have beaten Trump. People of both parties are sick of career politicians, and the lousy job they have been doing for decades (both parties). Trump came across as authentic, and definitely had different ideas. Hillary was manufactured and fake.

The Hillary Clintanic hit an Iceberg in the Sea of Trump, and went down faster than Bill Clinton´s trousers at a White House intern midnight pizza party. To me what really did it was simply the sound of her voice. I would rather listen to a class room full of 5th graders scratching their fingernails across a chalk board than listen to her give a screeching speech on any subject. Lastly the real issue was another simple one word reason she lost. Honesty.

It was Hillary´s stupid "vast right wing conspiracy" excuse that put me wise to her. Nothing she did or said since that moment did anything but strengthen my dislike and distrust of her.

Granted this is unpleasant, but imagine for one second that you’re very dead—extremely dead—and someone drags your bones out of your grave to play a dark(er) game of Maury. Unpleasant, right? But the good news is this isn’t happening to you; the bad news is that it’s happening to Salvador Dalí, the Spanish artist for whom the clocks melted and, possibly, a father. A Spanish court has ordered that his body be exhumed from its 28-year slumber in order to take part in a paternity test. The New York Times told the whole, long tale of how we got here a

Losing presidential candidates over the past quarter century have tended to become more popular in the months following the election. But former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has broken that trend, according to Gallup. The latest Gallup poll reveals that a majority of Americans, 57 percent, continue to view Secretary Clinton unfavorably. There has been no change in this percentage since January 2017. Clinton’s favorable rating hit an all-time low, 38 percent, early September last year. The highest it has ever been was 67 percent, which was in 1998 when she was first lady. In 2011 and 2012, during her time serving as

The 20th anniversary of Princess Diana’s death is more than a month out, yet the summer of 2017 seems all Di, all the time. Three primetime network specials have already aired in May. US Weekly published a special bookazine that same month; People plans one for July 21, to tie in with a two-night ABC special in early August. A repackaged edition of Andrew Morton’s 1992 blockbuster expose “Diana: Her True Story” hits shelves on Tuesday;(Snip)Yet amid all these retellings, one inexorable truth will be ignored: Diana actively created her own mythology. Here’s something to consider if you’re a disgruntled conservative angry about the Senate’s Obamacare replacement bill: Susan B. Anthony was a vehement opponent of the 15th Amendment. That’s the amendment which reads, “The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude.” Why would this genuine icon of feminism (not to be confused with hustlers like Hillary Clinton) object to such a huge leap forward for democracy and justice? She believed it didn’t go far enough. What

Don’t make too much of the news that Sen. Bernie Sanders and his wife Jill have lawyered up: It’s just what you have to do when you’re facing an FBI investigation. That is, retaining private counsel is obligatory even if you truly have done absolutely nothing wrong. On the other hand, real questions do surround Jill Sanders’ actions as president of now-closed Burlington College. Back in 2010, Sanders arranged a $10 million loan for the school to buy 32 acres of lakefront property. At issue is whether she falsely inflated the number of donors who’d promised to help cover the loan payments. The

I’ve been talking about the importance of protecting against voting-machine hacks since 2002. And now, finally, people are starting to take me seriously. The move to paperless voting started in response to the Florida “hanging chad” fiasco in the 2000 presidential election. Some people (like me) thought this was a mistake, but such concerns were often dismissed. Now, apparently, you can’t be paranoid enough. As Politico’s Bob King noted, while 10 years ago critics of paperless voting were called paranoid, now both parties are worried. It remains true that there is no actual evidence that a single vote was changed by hackers

It was a different time, a crazy time, all those…days ago…way back at the end of last week. I remember it like it was, well, just last week, when Democrats suggested that maybe, just maybe, the political rhetoric in the country was a little too heated after one of their own tried to murder as many Republican Congressmen as possible. Like I said, it was a different time. After less than two weeks, that time is done and the political left is back at their lying, hateful rhetoric about how Republicans are hoping to kill as many Americans as possible. It

Third time might be a charm for US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, who wed his Scottish actress fiancee Louise Linton in front of President Trump and the First Lady at a lavish, star-studded ceremony in Washington, DC on Saturday. It´s the third marriage for ex-banker Mnuchin, 54, who is reportedly worth upwards of $300 million, and the second marriage for Linton, 36, an Edinburgh-born actress who has appeared in several Hollywood films. She was married to Hollywood lawyer Ronald Richards. They divorced in 2009. The pair exchanged vows on Saturday evening at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium on the National Mall. The 300-person guest

The end of the Supreme Court term looms, and with it the prospect — the terrifying prospect — of a retirement. Specifically, the retirement of Justice Anthony M. Kennedy, who will turn 81 next month and is the longest-serving current justice, named to the high court almost 30 years ago. So if Kennedy is inclined to retire, it is hard to begrudge him that choice. But his departure would be terrible for the court and terrible for the country. It could not come at a worse time. Any court vacancy these days, under a president of either party, triggers a battle

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. -- This August, the U.S. will experience its first coast-to-coast total solar eclipse in 99 years. Total solar eclipses occur every year or two or three, often in the middle of nowhere like the South Pacific or Antarctic. What makes this one so special - at least for Americans - is that it will cut diagonally across the entire United States. The path of totality on Aug. 21 - where day briefly becomes night - will pass over Oregon, continuing through the heartland all the way to Charleston, South Carolina. But while Pelosi´s critics are increasingly vocal, they have not yet answered critical questions about who would fill her leadership and fundraising roles if they were to mount a serious challenge for the perch atop the party Pelosi has held since 2002. Nor have they identified a challenger. At least, not yet. A dozen House Democrats huddled in the office of New York Rep. So I’ve been wondering: Why on earth does a prosecutor, brought in to investigate a case in which there is no apparent crime, need a staff of 14 lawyers? Or, I should say, “14 lawyers and counting.” According to the press spokesman for special counsel Robert Mueller—yeah, he’s got a press spokesman, too—there are “several more in the pipeline.” Concededly, none of Mueller’s recruits requires Senate confirmation, as do Justice Department officials—notwithstanding that the former may end up playing a far more consequential role in the fate of the Trump administration. But does it seem strange to anyone else that, by comparison,

A feminist magazine is calling on all white women to “do their part to prevent white supremacy” and abort their white babies. This is sick beyond words. The feminist Medusa Magazine reported: In a progressive society, it is often white families that stand in the way of equality and justice. Systemic white supremacy depends, first and foremost, on the white family unit. When white conquerors forcefully penetrated the indigenous, egalitarian homeland of the Native peoples of America, they were quick to replicate their white societies, initiating their parasitism by establishing white plantations, headed by white fathers, submissive white mothers, and,

The Supreme Court said Monday that most of President Trump’s travel ban executive order can go into effect, delivering the first major victory to the new administration on perhaps his most controversial policy to date. Justices said the lower court rulings that blocked Mr. Trump’s policy were far too broad, and said the president can begin to enforce his ban against foreigners who don’t already have some ties to the U.S. That means the president can begin denying visas to visitors from six countries — Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen — who don’t already have family in the U.S., or some other prior connection such as
