We should be cheering the
likely end of the Senate
filibuster, not mourning it

Fox News, by Kevin Gutzman

President Donald Trump’s nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court almost certainly will lead to his swearing in as the ninth member of that tribunal by the end of April. With any luck, it will lead to an even more important reform: elimination of the Senate filibuster. The Senate filibuster is the modern descendant of the Senate’s one-time tradition of unlimited debate. Unlike in the far larger House of Representatives, where every speech is of limited duration, a senator who has the floor can keep it until overcome by exhaustion or an irresistible call of nature. (Once upon

Comments:
A conservative history professor presents the reasons for the filibuster and the reason it is no longer the right way to go. This a terrific history lesson as well as an argument for the Senate to change its rule. (BTW, the end of that truncated sentence involves a bucket.)

I think the same thing. What good is winning a majority and not having it mean anything. A super majority really only makes remote sense in trying to overturn an executive Veto...

#1 Amen! The filibuster for Supreme Court nominees is meaningless. If the Republicans didn´t have the sense or courage to filibuster Sotomayor then there is no reason for it. Sotomayor is a complete radical feminist leftist and a former member of la raza. She is blinded by her radical leftist ideology, the Constitution be damned and should never have been allowed on the Supreme Court.

The Senate blocked the peoples vote with filibuster and also took power out of the people. Without the filibuster it puts more pressure on the people to vote or live with their decisions. Get rid of it even for legislation.

For eight years, U.S. foreign assistance was tied to a leftist political agenda rather than American interests, and it’s now up to President Donald Trump to correct that, Sen. Mike Lee said Tuesday. Lee took particular aim at U.S. support during the Obama administration for the overseas work of nonprofits bankrolled by liberal billionaire George Soros. “Whatever one’s views about abortion, energy regulation, alternative family structures, they are neither core international priorities of the American people, nor essential to American national security. They are domestic political controversies, pet causes of a sort of privileged, globalist elite,” Lee said in the speech

Now that student mobs at universities around America (and elsewhere in the West) have silenced conservative speaker after conservative speaker, it has dawned on a small number of left-wing professors that the public is beginning to have contempt for the universities. As a result, a handful of academics at a handful of universities have signed statements in support of allowing “diverse” views to be heard at the university. These statements are worthless. While some of the professors who have signed these statements might sincerely believe that the university should honor the non-left value of free speech, one should keep in

Republican senators could investigate U.S. tax dollars funding liberal billionaire George Soros’ networks abroad “through other means” if the Trump administration’s State Department doesn’t provide answers. Six GOP senators wrote Secretary of State Rex Tillerson in March to ask for a State Department probe into how the federal grants are being used by Soros-funded Open Society Foundations, specifically in Macedonia and Albania, to promote progressive causes and undermine conservative and moderate political leaders in those countries. The State Department Bureau of Legislative Affairs responded not by addressing the question of a probe, but defending the U.S. Agency for International Development, or
