Pence woos conservatives with anti-abortion
adds to Obamacare repeal

Politico, by Rachael Bade and John Bresnahan

Vice President Mike Pence appealed to prominent anti-abortion lawmakers on Monday night to support the House Obamacare replacement bill, touting “pro-life” provisions in the bill as a reason to vote "yes." During a White House meeting with the GOP leaders of the congressional pro-life caucus, Pence pitched the group on some of the bill´s restrictions on abortion, including one major change to the bill expected to be announced Monday that pro-lifers say is essential to their support. His arguments, as well as the recent change to the bill, convinced some members like Rep. Vicky Hartzler (R-Mo.)

Comments:
It´s surprising the abortion issue wasn´t dealt with properly to begin with in this bill.

It is distressing how these single issue members buy into a piece of garbage because some clause protects their rice bowl. Without removing the insurance coverage mandates and the community rating mandates, this bill is worse than the real Obamacare.

Where is the concern for the big picture. The freedom of the American citizen? Only
Ted Cruz and Rand Paul seem to be looking out for us and I hope that they either get those two amendments or the bill goes down in the Senate.

Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., made headlines this week when he told reporters the intelligence community incidentally collected information on Donald Trump´s transition team following the Nov. 8 election. The congressman´s surprise claim raises many questions, including whether the alleged collection was legal and who was involved. As the issue is a confusing one that likely won´t disappear anytime soon, I´ve compiled a list of the 11 questions you most likely have about this chapter in the ongoing saga involving Trump and the intelligence community: 1. Who is Congressman Devin Nunes? Nunes is chairman of the House Select Intelligence Committee,

Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, argued Thursday that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has made it very difficult for all future Supreme Court nominees to move in the Senate because he thinks the ideology of the nominees is enough of a reason to vote them down. "I wish he had a chance to see [Neil] Gorsuch over the past two days, and anybody observing that is quite seriously voting against him just for political reasons. That´s the conclusion I come to," Grassley said, referring to Gorsuch´s hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee. "I think that we've heard Sen. Schumer for several weeks now,

Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin is calling on his GOP colleagues on Capitol Hill to move forward with the Trump administration’s plan to overhaul the nation’s health care system. “House members need to vote to repeal Obamacare today,” Mr. Walker said Friday on Twitter. “This is their chance to move process forward to get rid of the collapsing govt program.” Mr. Walker is chairman of the Republican Governors Association and also has strong ties to House Speaker Paul D. Ryan, who, along with President Trump, is lobbying lawmakers to get behind the Republican plan to move the nation away from Obamacare.

Several hundred protesters from a group called Forum for Bekasi Muslim Friendship staged a rowdy demonstration in front of the Santa Clara church in Kaliabang, a neighborhood of Bekasi city, after Friday prayers. Witnesses said police fired tear gas as the protesters tried to force their way into the church, which has been under construction since November. Some also threw rocks and bottles into the site. Members of the Congressional Black Caucus went to the White House today for their first official meeting with President Donald Trump. The meeting, which comes five weeks after Trump asked a reporter at a press conference to help set up a discussion with the group, was organized primarily to discuss Trump’s new budget proposal, which Chairman Cedric Richmond, D-Louisiana, said at a press conference this afternoon would be “devastating” for the African-American community. Rep. Karen Bass, D-California, said that the group raised “several areas of concern” but added that it was a “positive first start.” According to Bass

When it comes to repealing and replacing Obamacare, defenders of President Barack Obama´s signature domestic law constantly ask, "What about those with pre-existing illnesses?" After all, the most popular feature of Obamacare is that it prohibits insurance companies from denying coverage because an applicant has a pre-existing illness. And President Donald Trump and House Speaker Paul Ryan insist that those with pre-existing conditions will be covered. But by agreeing with Obama on the issue of pre-existing illnesses, by promising to replace Obamacare "with something better," Republicans are making a massive concession: That access to health care insurance should be guaranteed by

A group of Senate Democrats is beginning to explore trying to extract concessions from Republicans in return for allowing Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch to be confirmed, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter. The lawmakers worry that Gorsuch could be confirmed whether Democrats try to block him or not — and Democrats would be left with nothing to show for it. That would be a bitter pill after the GOP blocked Merrick Garland for nearly a year. The deal Democrats would be most likely to pursue, the sources said, would be to allow confirmation of Gorsuch in exchange for a

In the last three months of the Obama presidency, significant personal information from and about the Trump transition was collected and widely disseminated at intelligence agencies, according to House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes. Dozens of intelligence reports provided to Nunes by an unnamed whistleblower were floating around during the sensitive transition period following the election, he said. The information collection itself may have technically been legal, but the failure to properly mask the information “alarmed” the California congressman, who notified the White House of the surveillance and dissemination of information on Wednesday afternoon. President Trump is facing the first crucial test of his presidency — repealing and replacing Obamacare — and he needs to apply the negotiating chops and deal-making skills he bragged about in his bestselling book, “The Art of the Deal,” to fixing our broken health-care system. And given his low approval ratings, he needs a win. Dealing with the Obamacare mess has been the core focus of the Republican party for the past 7 years — not to mention a major campaign promise that helped propel Donald Trump to the White House. So it’s imperative that the president seal the deal and
