Why It’s So Hard for Democrats

Focus groups can be self-fulfilling Rorschach tests, with practitioners cherry-picking the parts that fit their preconceived narrative. But it’s nonetheless useful to pay close attention to Democratic pollster Stanley Greenberg’s findings from a group of Macomb County, Michigan supporters of President Trump, all independents and Democrats. The fine print of these swing voters’ reactions is as significant as Greenberg’s conclusion that Democrats can win back some Trump voters by pivoting leftward on economic issues. The full report should be read by any Democrat interested in forging a path back to power with Trump in office. For all the anti-Trump sentiment coursing

The Left Liberals have been very effective is spreading their propaganda, and maximizing the use of paid professional protestors to convince the author of this piece that there is wide-spread anti-Trump feeling in the country. I do not believe this meme.

If citizens fall for this ploy, it is just a short step to the much yearned for Marxist Communist Utopia set-up that the Left Liberals have yearned for the past 50+ years.

I´m considering making each entry in this space for the next several weeks a continuation of the argument that today’s modern Left and the Democrat Party it drives is a movement by and for people incapable of doing a proper job. This wasn’t always true, mind you. Not completely. After all, it was Democrats who ran the antebellum South, and their idea of running a successful economy was forced agricultural labor to benefit a medieval-style aristocracy. But on the other hand, the Left demonstrated quite often in the past that it was awfully good at winning political arguments — so good,

President must close the ‘deal’ on Obamacare
Boston Herald, by Adriana Cohen    Original Article

President Trump is facing the first crucial test of his presidency — repealing and replacing Obamacare — and he needs to apply the negotiating chops and deal-making skills he bragged about in his bestselling book, “The Art of the Deal,” to fixing our broken health-care system. And given his low approval ratings, he needs a win. Dealing with the Obamacare mess has been the core focus of the Republican party for the past 7 years — not to mention a major campaign promise that helped propel Donald Trump to the White House. So it’s imperative that the president seal the deal and

The publicity-hungry New York Times-leaker and failed — yes, failed — former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara just landed a gig at NYU Law and the press is acting as though the school just hired the offspring of Thurgood Marshall and Clarence Darrow. Hardly. In fact, relentlessly self-promoting Bharara, who in real life makes scenery-chewing Paul Giamatti´s U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades on "Billions" look like a fame-a-phobe, has spent his career so successfully selling his failures as huge successes, his cowardice against Wall Street as triumphs, that he should have either won salesman of the year or maybe indicted himself for

Health Care Vote Is a Moment

Weekly Standard, by Michael Warren    Original Article

The House of Representatives will vote Thursday on the American Health Care Act, a bill President Donald Trump has enthusiastically endorsed and what the administration considers its best and perhaps only chance to repeal and replace Obamacare. It´s the first and possibly biggest test so far of Trump´s ability to push forward his legislative agenda with a sizable Republican majority in the House and a marginal one in the Senate. And even on the day of the vote, it´s difficult to see how the bill ends up on the president´s desk in its current form—or even how it passes the

What a charade. The Senate confirmation hearing for President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee is liable to drive Americans nuts. There ought to be a way to suspend the senators’ pay for every hour one of them talks. Or wheezes. I mean, I’m pushing 71 and it takes me an hour to answer the phone. But I’ve got nothing on Sen. Patrick Leahy. In Vermont they’ve got a horse-drawn plow that talks faster than he does. And what’s the purpose, other than to evade the voters? The confirmation process has become an elaborate kabuki play in which the senators try to

The longer a politician stays in Washington, as a rule of thumb, the more difficult it becomes to keep his nose clean. Democrats ought to apply that reasoning and skip over Maxine Waters if they´re looking for a new conscience of the House. After three decades in Congress, the California Democrat has a more than checkered past. But that didn´t keep her from predicting President Trump´s political demise. "Get ready for impeachment," Waters cryptically tweeted out of the blue on Trump´s 61st day in office and without further explanation. If Waters hasn´t completely discredited herself already — last week, she claimed, sans

After FBI Director James Comey confirmed the existence of an investigation into potential ties between Donald Trump’s campaign and Russia, conspiracy theorists rejoiced. Yet it’s almost certain they won’t get what they desire. Don’t get me wrong, I’m always rooting for an impeachment. Perhaps the FBI will ferret out emails that show Trump asking Vlad Putin to hack John Podesta’s emails. President Mike Pence would in every way — on trade, foreign policy, entitlements, and just overall competence and non-craziness — offer a more conservative White House than Trump does. Democrats will detest him, just as vigorously, if not more. But until

Last week, the British intelligence agency GCHQ took the rare step of debunking as “utterly ridiculous” the Trump administration’s insinuation that Britain spied on Donald Trump during the 2016 campaign. On Monday, FBI Director James B. Comey testified plainly that “I have no information that supports” President Trump’s accusations that his predecessor ordered the “wires tapped” at Trump Tower. These false statements from the White House are part of a disturbing pattern of behavior that poses real and potentially profound dangers to U.S. national security. These days they´re posting to YouTube with videos of their own showing their not insignificant forces taking out a U.S. aircraft carrier and blasting off ICBMs capable, sooner than later, of reaching, well, those same Sony Pictures Studios in Culver City, not to mention a fair portion of the western USA.

The Republican health-care bill is making its way toward passage in the House of Representatives Thursday. And though the course of the legislation hasn’t been smooth and its future in the Senate is uncertain, we’ve learned a great deal about Washington politics in the Trump era from its journey thus far. President Trump may be the most unconventional White House resident of our time, and perhaps of all time, but when it comes to this bill, he’s behaving the way anyone in his position would behave. It’s the first bill of his presidency. He and House Speaker Paul Ryan agreed

Straining at the tweet and swallowing the camel has become Washington’s favorite pursuit, and it was on tiresome display at Monday’s Congressional hearing with Jim Comey. Out of it came two clashing headlines: “Comey Denies Obama Ordered Wiretapping on Trump,” “The FBI is Investigating Trump’s Links to Russia.” In other words, the core claim underlying Trump’s tweets is true: people acting on the authority of Obama opened an investigation into Trump’s campaign, then criminally leaked mention of it to friendly news outlets in an attempt to derail his election. When is Obama going to apologize for that? Were the Republicans less feckless

Sears is on the verge of declaring bankruptcy. All department stores have faced increased competition from Amazon.com, but Sears is out of cash and about to fail. Why? Because the CEO, Eddie Lampert, is a guy with nutty ideas who treated Sears like a dotcom, conveniently forgetting that it has physical stores that need maintaining. (snip) It´s closing hundreds of stores. Others are in shambles, with leaking ceilings and broken escalators. In some, employees hang bedsheets to shield shoppers from sections that stand empty. Before Sears and Kmart, Lampert had no experience in retail. The big plan he hoped would transform Sears

A group of Senate Democrats is beginning to explore trying to extract concessions from Republicans in return for allowing Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch to be confirmed, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter. The lawmakers worry that Gorsuch could be confirmed whether Democrats try to block him or not — and Democrats would be left with nothing to show for it. That would be a bitter pill after the GOP blocked Merrick Garland for nearly a year. The deal Democrats would be most likely to pursue, the sources said, would be to allow confirmation of Gorsuch in exchange for a
