Howard Schultz, the current CEO of Starbucks, will step down from his role at the giant coffee chain next month. The move comes after his vow to hire thousands refugees in response to President Donald Trump´s first travel ban appeared to hurt customer sentiment and dent their sales. Trump supporters have called for a boycott of the chain since January 29, when Schultz vowed to hire 10,000 refugees over five years. Schultz in a letter to employees said the promise of the American Dream was ´being called into question´ and that ´the civility and human rights we have all taken

The terminlogy is mudddled. It´s illegal immigrants that are the issue to me, not legitimate refugees. And illegals are probably what he meant.

I hope we never renounce the spirit of Lady Liberty, which has been a beacon of hope and transcendence around the world for many decades.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday that New Yorkers will be at risk of terror if Attorney General Jeff Sessions follows through on cutting federal law enforcement grants to sanctuary cities. Sessions appeared at the White House to say that jurisdictions that ignore immigration detainers will lose Department of Justice grants, which total $4.1 billion for the upcoming fiscal year. “President Trump’s latest threat changes nothing. We will remain a city welcoming of immigrants who have helped make our city the safest big city in the nation,” de Blasio said in response. “Any attempt to cut NYPD

How can we save our universities from the rot that has invaded their precincts, eroding the traditional core of Western literary, cultural, scientific, technological, and professional instruction? What would such a makeover involve? To begin with, Title IX should be abolished a.s.a.p. Originally intended to prevent sexual and racial discrimination -- a well-intentioned but ill-conceived bipartisan measure signed into law in 1972 -- Title IX has been corrupted beyond recognition, trampling due process in sexual harassment cases, feeding the campus rape panic, curtailing free speech rights in an effort to avoid “offense,” diluting the curriculum via “trigger warnings” and “microaggression”

Is a guaranteed paycheck from the government, with no strings attached, the answer to the relentless rise of automation? The concept might sound far-fetched, but a so-called universal basic income (UBI), is currently one of the most hotly debated policy topics being floated as a means to address income inequality and the disruption that technology poses to the workforce. UBI is being tested in Finland and other international markets, but has received decidedly mixed reactions. Meanwhile, developments in robotics and artificial intelligence have grave implications for the labor force. A report issued this week from consulting firm PwC found that

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said Monday he’ll begin punishing sanctuary cities, withholding potentially billions of dollars in federal money — and even clawing back funds that had been doled out in the past. Speaking at the White House, Mr. Sessions said his department is preparing to dole out more than $4 billion in funds this year, but will try prevent any of it from going to sanctuaries. “Countless Americans would be alive today … if these policies of sanctuary cities were ended,” Mr. Sessions said. He said he’s carrying out a policy laid out by the Obama administration last year,

Mental genius Chelsea Clinton made a complete a** of herself once again this past weekend. Someone really needs to keep her away from the computers without supervision. Via Newsbusters— The Republican Party of Palm Beach County put President Lincoln in a #MAGA hat this year for its Lincoln Day Dinner. (Snip) An alarmed Chelsea Clinton, a graduate of Oxford University, asked her followers if the image was photoshopped! What a dunce. The responses to Chelsea’s tweets were EPIC! “No, this is the exact hat Lincoln was wearing when he signed the Emancipation Proclamation. People forget that.” “Nope, Lincoln was wearing that exact hat at the Theater.” “Nope,

Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer said Sunday that Democrats are ready to work with President Trump to fix Obamacare if Republicans abandon their drive to repeal the law. The New York Democrat made the offer in the wake of Friday’s decision by Mr. Trump and House Speaker Paul D. Ryan to pull the GOP bill to repeal and replace Obamacare, also known as the Affordable Care Act or ACA. The bill lacked enough Republican support to pass, including many defectors among conservatives. Democrats formed a united front against the effort. “We Democrats, provided our Republican colleagues drop [repeal and

The first cocktail party at Barack Obama’s new office last month was certainly more casual than any he had hosted in recent years. The wine bore a random assortment of labels, as if assembled potluck-style. The self-serve appetizers were set out in the narrow hallway. The host, tieless, eschewed formal remarks, as a few dozen of his old administration officials — Joe Biden and former chief of staff Denis McDonough, as well as more junior ones — mingled in a minimalist wood-paneled suite that could be mistaken for a boutique law firm. “It was a bit of a shock to

The Washington Post detailed the House GOP’s fight over the ObamaCare repeal and replacement plan this week, rounding up the dramatic details of leadership’s fight to win support for the measure. At one point, the paper said, House Speaker Paul Ryan (Wis.) got down on one knee to plead with Rep. Don Young of Alaska – the longest-serving Republican in Congress -- to support the bill. (He was unsuccessful.) The moments highlighted by the Post during the Republican conference negotiations show what a tough battle Ryan and his deputies faced in whipping the vote. But they also show the fierce support
