How pundits got key part of
Trump-Russia story all wrong

Washington Examiner [DC], by Byron York

Original Article

A key talking point in the theory that Donald Trump and the Russians conspired in the 2016 election is the allegation that last summer, during the Republican convention, the Trump campaign changed the GOP platform to weaken its stance on Russia´s aggression in Ukraine. It´s been cited many, many times. The only problem is, it´s all wrong. The wildest expression of the theory came, as it often does, from MSNBC´s Rachel Maddow, who told viewers on March 8 that "something weird" happened to the GOP platform on "that Ukraine and Russia thing" when the Trump team "jumped right up on that and

Fake News, but because if fit the political narrative of the Corporate Enemedia Enterprises and fanned the flames of hatred against Donald Trump, was simply "too good to check." More proof that the phony "fact checkers" of the enemedia -- particularly liars like the Washington Post´s Glenn Kessler and the New York Slimes "Public Editor" -- are in truth one-trick geldings established solely to boost Democrats and Progressives and slander Republicans and Conservatives.

Top Democrats say they won´t vote on a new FBI

A growing number of Democrats have said they will refuse to nominate a new FBI director until the deputy attorney general appoints a special prosecutor to investigate potential ties between President Donald Trump´s campaign and Russia. During an interview on Sunday on "State of the Union," CNN anchor Jake Tapper asked Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer if he supported the idea, floated by Senate Intelligence Committee vice chairman Mark Warner. "I think there are a lot of Democrats who feel that way," Schumer said. "We´ll have to discuss it as a caucus, but I would support that move." The New York

The American Left Is Talking

Something is wrong with the American Left. The recent spate of violent protests on college campuses has been well-documented, but the violence and intolerance championed by left-wing student activists is beginning to creep off campus and into mainstream public life. The reason for this is straightforward enough: although progressives pride themselves on their putative tolerance and diversity, the imperatives of leftist politics are fundamentally illiberal. Justice imposed through power is the philosophical foundation of the political left, and when earnest progressives become convinced the only avenue to power is violence, their tolerance quickly falls by the wayside. Consider a few recent

Shocking! Shameful! Delusional! Despicable! Dangerous! The Ivy League elites of cable news are running out of pejoratives to disparage the Trump ascendancy. Just as their patrician professors might have, they’ve branded the new administration nothing more than a “Trump l’oeil:” an illusion of presidential leadership created by a Rat Pack wannabe grifter-in-chief who has no intention of comporting himself any differently than he ever has, nor paying homage to the conventions of the “imperial presidency” begun by Harvard’s Franklin Roosevelt, perfected by Harvard’s John Kennedy, and perpetuated in the circumspect word parsing of Yale and Oxford’s William Jefferson Clinton. Then again, “in

“We know Director Comey was leading an investigation in [sic] whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians, a serious offense.” So inveighed Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (D. N.Y.), according to a report by PJ Media’s Bridget Johnson. Senator Schumer added, “If there was ever a time when circumstances warranted a special prosecutor, it is now.” No, it’s not. Readers of these columns will recall that I am a naysayer on the constitutional chimera interchangeably called a “special prosecutor” or an “independent counsel.” I won’t rehash all the arguments yet again. Suffice it to say there is no such

Now that FBI Director James Comey has been fired, partially for his handling of the Clinton email scandal, many are wondering if a newly appointed director will take a second look at the case. Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton, whose attorneys have worked overtime to expose the extent to which Clinton and her aides went in mishandling classified information on an unsecured private server, says it´s certainly a possibility. "I think it [Clinton´s case] needs to be reevaluated not only under a new FBI Director but under the new leadership of the Justice Department. Sessions starts applying the law

One of Donald Trump´s chief campaign promises was to keep Americans safe by restoring "law and order" to their streets. His nomination of Jeff Sessions as attorney general signaled that he intended to follow through on that promise. This week Sessions issued a new directive for the country´s 94 US attorneys to charge criminal suspects with the most serious offense provable against them, including those that would qualify under mandatory minimum sentencing laws. Sessions´ directive effectively rescinds Obama-era guidelines that ignored federal laws and eased sentences for drug offenders. Under Obama, the Justice Department focused on pursuing the most serious crimes

Federal investigators last month reportedly requested bank records of former Trump campaign adviser Paul Manafort as a part of a widening probe into potential Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. The Department of Justice requested Manafort’s banking records from Citizens Financial Group Inc. back in mid-April, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday. It is unclear if additional banks received similar requests. Manafort has not been accused of any wrong doing. He has agreed to testify before congressional committees involved. This comes as pressure mounts on the FBI and Congress to find out if Trump campaign associates colluded with

You hear it all the time: President Trump hasn´t been tested, hasn´t faced a real crisis. The events of the last few weeks, however, have made me want to turn that formulation around. Trump doesn´t face crises so much as manufacture them. In a way he is the crisis, and his presidency is in danger of being defined not by any legislative or diplomatic achievement but by his handling of the multiplying and daunting obstacles he creates for himself. I do not mean that we are in the midst of a constitutional crisis. Nor are we in a crisis of democracy.

Walls fall in on Obamacare
Washington Examiner, by Editorial    Original Article

It´s not just a Republican talking point that Obamacare is falling apart. Democrats´ efforts to shift all blame to President Trump and his party are misleading. Obamacare is crumbling because it was poorly made. Further proof of that arrived Thursday when Aetna said it would quit Obamacare in the last four states where it has been participating. Other insurers are abandoning the law´s insurance exchanges or requesting eye-popping premium increases for next year. These facts demolish Democrats´ insistence that the law is working just fine. Democrats and their allies in the news media have pivoted to blaming President Trump for Obamacare´s struggles.

Good God, but Bathtub Boy* is bonkers. On Twitter, GQ´s Keith Olbermann posted his "passionate appeal" to foreign spies to help him overthrow our duly elected president. "I appeal to the intelligence agencies and the governments of what is left of the free world," Olby began dramatically. To them as entities, entireties as bureaucracies making official decisions, and to the individuals who make decisions of conscience. To GCHQ and MI6 in the UK, to the BND in Germany, the DGSE in France, the ASIS in Australia, and even of the GRU in Russia, where they must already be profoundly aware that they have

In a few minutes, President Donald Trump will release a new set of tweets, flooding social-media accounts with his unique brand of digital smelling salts—words that will jolt his supporters and provoke his adversaries. Nearly a dozen senior aides stand in the Oval Office, crowding behind couches or near door-length windows. This is the way he likes to work, more often than not: in a crowd. He sits behind his desk finishing the tasks of the day, which have included watching new Senate testimony about Russian involvement in the 2016 presidential election, by signing orders in red folders with a black

It’s one of the many ironies of the furor over James Comey’s firing amid the FBI’s investigation of Russia’s meddling in the 2016 campaign that the ongoing Democratic impeachment-driven uproar actually serves Moscow’s interests. Because, as Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Charles Grassley noted Thursday, the intelligence community concluded that the key Russian goal “is to undermine the American public’s faith in our democratic institutions.” And the “wild speculation” coming from both congressional Democrats and their media allies that President Trump is under criminal investigation does just that. Grassley said he and top committee Democrat Dianne Feinstein were briefed by Comey last week

The tectonic plates of cable news ratings are shifting, as Fox News struggles to recover from sexual harassment scandals and the departure of its most popular host, Bill O’Reilly. Not long ago, a friend was reciting things she needed to do before celebrating Passover with her family: preparing the ritual foods, doing something special for her grandchildren and making room for her daughter’s in-laws. Exhausted by the list, she looked at me and said, “It’s not easy being Jewish.” I know the feeling. I’m a Donald Trump supporter. The president rarely makes it easy on the faithful, often testing his tribe through errant word and deed. Even on his best days, he manages to insert a hurdle or two or 10. The James Comey affair is the perfect example. On substance, Trump made

But after 72 years, Pinus rigida 212-45-C, the state’s champion pitch pine, has died and will be cut down at the Washington Park Arboretum. The cause of death was climate change: steadily warming and drier summers, that stressed the tree in its position atop a droughty knoll. Red turpentine beetles, catching the scent of stress chemicals emitted by the tree as it struggled, bored in.

David Garrow’s new biography of Barack Obama, Rising Star, contains this passage from an unpublished paper Obama is said to have written while a Harvard law student: “[Americans have] a continuing normative commitment to the ideals of individual freedom and mobility, values that extend far beyond the issue of race in the American mind. The depth of this commitment may be summarily dismissed as the unfounded optimism of the average American—I may not be Donald Trump now, but just you wait; if I don’t make it, my children will.” First of all—heh! Rep. Maxine Waters — and I’m betting at this point, that’s all I have to write, that you already know where the story leads. If you guessed an impeach Trump theme, you’re quite right. American retail culture may well have reached a tipping point. Major department stores are floundering about like fish in a rapidly draining pond after reporting dreadful earnings last week. The time-honored multigenerational giants like Macy’s, Sears and JCPenney are all looking at a dramatically different future. Macy’s stock collapsed 17 percent after Thursday’s first-quarter report. And high-end retail behemoths like Nordstrom are getting clobbered, too. Shares of that politically petulant retailer fell 11 percent Thursday on news of its first-quarter results. Better take a good look, because this may be last call for the mall.

U.S. Senator John Cornyn will no longer deliver the commencement address at Texas Southern University this weekend, the school said on Friday, after U.S. Education Secretary Betsy DeVos was booed at another historically black university. More than 800 people signed a petition started by a Texas Southern University student who opposed the university’s invitation to the Republican senator to speak at Saturday’s graduation in Houston. The petition said Cornyn’s backing of DeVos and Attorney General Jeff Sessions, among other things, showed that he supported “discriminatory policies and politicians.” “We have the right to decide if we want to refuse to
