The world´s top economic powers dropped a long-standing endorsement of open trade amid pushback from the Trump administration. Financial leaders from the G20 group of leading economies, including the US, China and Germany, held tough discussions in the German town of Baden-Baden. After deliberating for two days, they issued a statement Saturday that contained only a bland reference to "working to strengthen the contribution of trade to our economies". By comparison, last year´s meeting called on them to resist "all forms" of protectionism, which can include border tariffs and rules that keep out imports to shield domestic companies from competition. ‘I am ready!’ Hillary Clinton plans to ´come

HILLARY Clinton has fuelled rumours of a political comeback as she insisted she is “ready to come out of the woods” and unite US citizens. The 69-year-old former Presidential candidate told an Irish women’s group that she had a “hard time watching the news” during her St Patrick’s day speech. She told the Society of Irish women yesterday: “What can we do to try to bring people together and to try to find that common ground, even higher ground, sister, so that we listen to each other again and we know that we can make a difference? “I’m not sure it

What are you doing here? Angela Merkel is

German Chancellor Angela Merkel´s first visit with the Trumps was awkward for a number of reasons - including her apparent confusion at the First Daughter´s presence at the White House roundtable. Many spotted the moment Merkel gave Ivanka an apparent side-eye, while quickly collecting herself and smiling along with President Trump´s eldest daughter. Ivanka´s specific role in the White House has raised eyebrows, given she has no official title within her father´s administration. White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said last month: ´I think her role is to be helpful and provide input on a variety of areas that she has deep, passionate

Donna Brazile, the former interim chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, admitted for the first time on Friday that she fed Hillary Clinton a question that would be asked during a televised town hall debate last year. Although she initially denied sending emails to a Clinton staffer about the question, the long-time Democratic Party operative now writes in Time magazine that it ´was a mistake I will forever regret.´ ´[Hacked emails] revealed that among the many things I did in my role as a Democratic operative and DNC Vice Chair prior to assuming the interim DNC Chair position was to share potential

Syria on Friday sent two letters to the UN in which it said that Israel’s airstrikes on the country violated international law, the UN Charter, and “the sovereignty and the sanctity of Syrian territory,” the Syrian news agency SANA reported. In letters sent to the UN Secretary General and the President of the Security Council, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said that “in flagrant defiance of the international legitimacy and UN resolutions and the sovereignty and the inviolability of the Syrian territory,” four Israeli warplanes violated Syrian airspace and targeted a military site in the eastern countryside of Homs province. “As part of

Billionaire hedge funder Robert Mercer and his daughter Rebekah prefer to stay in the political shadows, but now they they´re getting new attention as the most prominent financial political backers of President Donald Trump. The Mercers started out the 2016 primaries as supporters of Texas Senator Ted Cruz, but switched to Trump after he got the nomination and became some of his most important backers. They helped shape the campaign in other ways, financing some of the outlets and projects that brought about Trump´s rise. Their data firm, Cambridge Analytica, got hired by the Trump campaign and helped it target its voters. The Mercers´

Kellyanne Conway reminisced about the moment Hillary Clinton called to concede to Donald Trump the night of the presidential election. The president´s campaign-manager-turned-advisor recalled the historic moment in a talk at the National Review Institute´s Ideas Summit in Washington, DC Friday morning. The night before the election, Conway said she and Clinton´s team spoke over email about when the concession call would happen. ´Robby Mook (Clinton´s campaign manager) had agreed the night before through an email to me that within 15 minutes of the AP calling the race for Secretary Clinton, they would wait 15 minutes and then she would take to

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer has personally apologized to Britain for a bizarre claim that Barack Obama may have used UK spies at GCHQ to listen to Donald Trump´s calls. The charge was initially levied on Fox News, and Spicer repeated it in a televised briefing on Thursday. It prompted a rare and furious response from GCHQ, which is Britain´s high-tech global listening post that monitors communications around the world. Intelligence sources said both Spicer and General H.R. McMaster, the US National Security Adviser, have now apologized over the claims. Britain´s ambassador to the United States Sir Kim Darroch

He arrived without his family and has no political meetings planned. Rates at the villas on the atoll, purchased by Hollywood star Marlon Brando in the 1960s, run anywhere between 2,000 euros (about $2,150) to 12,300 euros ($13,241). All the emphasis seems to be on cutting. We will cut CPB, NPR, NEA. Why aren’t we talking about growing and building and knocking down barriers? Why aren’t we talking about jobs and a boom and reforming regulation and taxes so people can build and invest? Is cutting the absolute No. 1 priority right now? In a country that is, in Pope Francis’ famous characterization of the modern world, “a field hospital after battle”? Is that what the Republican party wants to lead with? Why isn’t the priority unleashing, getting past limits, pushing toward dynamism and expansion? All these old arguments—we have to

For pretty much everything else, Trump lowers the boom. “The first cut is the deepest,” Cat Stevens told us. But when the deepest cut comes as the first it indicates what a

WashingtonBarack Obama´s post-presidency life is way more glamorous than you could imagine. Back in Washington, President Donald Trump continues to suggest, without proof, that Obama wiretapped him and Republicans are busy trying to dismantle his signature health reform law. Nevertheless, former President Barack Obama is unwinding nicely from the most important job in the world. He´s been to sunny California for some golf, a private island in the Caribbean, where he kite-surfed with billionaire Richard Branson; he went to New York to take in a Broadway play, and then again, to dine with U2´s Bono. He lunched in Omaha last week

In the four months since the election, New York and D.C. media outlets have been diligently boosting all stories related to Chelsea Clinton, apparently in the hopes that they can astroturf a political appetite among liberals for a political campaign by the former First Daughter. Here’s The Hill, from yesterday: When rumors started swirling after the election that Chelsea Clinton was considering her own foray into politics, it was met with eye rolls even from staunch supporters of the family. […] But that skepticism is starting to fade. Last month, a separate report in the New York Daily News said that Clinton could

Rachel Maddow says she never promised a scandal when she announced she had gotten hold of the President’s tax returns. If the story was overhyped, that wasn’t her fault she tells the Associated Press: Maddow’s tweet less than 90 minutes before her show that “we’ve got Trump’s tax returns” set off a social media frenzy. Although a subsequent tweet specified it was only two pages from one year’s returns, expectations were sky high. Maddow told the AP that she never misrepresented what she had. “Because I have information about the president doesn’t mean that it’s necessarily a scandal,” she said. “It doesn’t mean

Hillary Clinton and Huma Abedin were spotted together for the first time in months on Thursday - with the pair stopping by the Bergdorf Goodman salon for a quick cut and color. The former Secretary of State was photographed as she made her way to a waiting car after a day spent at the John Barrett Salon, showing off the results of her new $600 haircut and $600 dye job. Expedia (EXPE) said Clinton will be paid "in accordance with the company´s standard compensation policies" for board members. According to an Expedia proxy statement from August, non-employee directors were paid a $45,000 "annual retainer" and awarded $250,000 worth of stock in 2015. Board members who served on various committees were paid an additional $10,000 to $20,000. But Expedia said in a filing
