He´d been waiting for this day, and when his doctor handed him the mirror, Andy Sandness stared at his image and absorbed the enormity of the moment: He had a new face, one that had belonged to another man. His father and his brother, joined by several doctors and nurses at Mayo Clinic, watched as he studied his swollen features. He was just starting to heal from one of the rarest surgeries in the world - a face transplant, the first at the medical center. He had the nose, cheeks, mouth, lips, jaw, chin, even the teeth of his donor.

Yet another reason to sign up as an organ donor and donor of other body components. I carry the donor card, but I also have told my immediate family of my wishes. Actually, I can´t think of a single reason NOT to donate.

By the way, if you "donate your body to science," the body parts are not given to patients----the medical school just uses the cadaver for instruction or research.

Tom Perez -vs- Keith Ellison For DNC

Yeah, there’s a lot of political stuff swirling the various news feeds. However, it’s worth watching the CNN debate tonight between Tom Perez and Keith Ellison for DNC Chairmanship. The actual DNC voting will take place on Saturday February 25th. The long term future of the Democrat party is being fought amid two distinct constituencies. The establishment wing of the Democrat Party, represented by Perez; and the more insurgent wing of the party apparatus represented by Ellison. (Photos) While there is a considerable amount of cross-over between the two ideological camps, essentially the direction the Democrat party will take in

The seven candidates for chair of the Democratic National Committee laid out their plans to lead the political party, including impeaching President Trump - a rallying cry even House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi has said is not yet warranted. One of the top contenders in the race, Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., cited examples of actions Trump has taken in his first month in office that are worthy of being fired as commander in chief. "I think that Donald Trump has already done a number of things which legitimately raise the question of impeachment. On day one, he was in violation

Mediaite was the first to draw attention yesterday to a questionable statement of fact made by longtime White House correspondent April Ryan. Ryan told Sean Spicer that while on the campaign trial, Donald Trump “said things like, you know, ‘We made this country,’ meaning white America, not necessarily black.” When Spicer denied he had said any such thing, Ryan insisted, “No, no, no. He said that. I heard him say that.” Looking back at that piece yesterday, I gave Ryan the benefit of the doubt. I thought she perhaps had made a mistake and this would be quickly corrected. I

Confronting a national debt that nearly doubled under President Obama, President Trump said Wednesday he inherited a federal budget “mess” and vowed to force Washington to stop wasting taxpayers’ money. “The finances of our country are a mess, but we’re going to clean them up,” the president told reporters. “We won’t let your money be wasted anymore. We must do a lot more with less.” Preparing for a prime-time address to Congress next week, Mr. Trump met with budget officials and said he will unveil his first proposed budget, a retooled plan to replace Obamacare, and a tax-reform package over

Entire San Jose neighborhoods were submerged by water on Wednesday during the worst floods for 100 years. 50,000 people were told to flee their homes after evacuation warnings were issued in the early hours of the morning. Most were issued a flood warning but for 14,000 the order was mandatory. The flooding began when Coyote Creek, which runs through Silicone Valley from the San Francisco Bay, burst its banks on Tuesday night. It sent dirty water pouring in to the towns below it at frightening pace. On Wednesday, residents complained that the alert had not been sent out fast enough. Some

Guadalupe Olivas Valencia, 45, jumped from a bridge at the border after he was deported for the third time. His death came as the Trump administration issued new guidelines to widen the net for deporting illegal immigrants from the US. Three of the planets have such good conditions, that scientists say life may have already evolved on them. Researchers claim that they will know whether or not there is life on any of the planets within a decade, and said ´this is just the beginning.´ No other star system discovered before has been found to
