A solemn President Trump turned his Thursday afternoon announcement of a new labor secretary nominee into a screed against the media and large-scale defense of his first four weeks as president. It was remarkable. Trump hit all the usual points: The polls, the electoral college, the media, etc. He even said that he inherited a "mess" four separate times. There were grievances galore. Below is the transcript, which we´ll update as it comes in, along with our analysis and annotations. TRUMP: Thank you very much. I just wanted to begin by mentioning that the nominee for secretary of the Department of Labor will be
Comments: We watched the whole thing. It was a doozy. Worthy of cheering. He did a fantastic job. Read the transcript. I’ll try to find CTH’s video so that you can use your own eyes and ears!!!
A "solemn President Trump"? Aaron Blake must have seen a different news conference. The President seemed to be having a really good time. So did I. Trump recognizes that the lying liberal media are out to destroy his Presidency and is having none of it. He is happy to call things what they are. Muslims who want to kill and terrorize us are "radical Islamic terrorists", and the lying liberal media are the "opposition". Recognizing enemies for what they are is one of the first steps to defeating them, and for the good of America the lying liberal media must be defeated.
One thing for sure it was entertaining, one of a kind, things memories are made of, funny, made the rinos squirm, I am so glad I voted for this man moment, this made Saturday Night Live look like kindergarten!
Never heard anything remotely like it (POTUS: "The level of dishonesty is out of control.") in a presidential presser before, but I love it! The lumpen press establishment says Grumble grumble grumble. Go, President Trump! This is the way it´s going to be. From now on.
What´s really funny is that they whined and complained that he only took questions from conservative media. Then he took questions from them, but all they can write about is how he was a big meany to them!
Hardly road rage. Just an intelligent experienced president calling it as he - and we - see it. He has known all along what they were up to. It would not be a sign of strength for him to not call them on what they’re up to and appeal to their better natures. He simply asked them to tell the truth.
Those who show up attempting to mock other posters who support our president sometimes do not turn out well.
HEY...yeah, you at WA PO. I watched this brilliant man hang you and the other media liars out to dry. There was nothing combative,no grievance time, nothing. He worked without notes and no one, and I do mean NO ONE, could have missed what took place. This is the man I voted for and the man who has my confidence 100%. My phone has been ringing and everyone agrees. We´re all deplorables, all voted for President Trump, and all think you and your pals aren´t worth the price of a bag of year old garbage.
Way to go, President Trump. We´re with you, we have your back too.
LOL, #5 misses the empty rhetoric of every other pandering politician. The non answers the defensive response to the set up strawmen that the press lives by. Why? What possible progress could be achieved to advancing America with more bogus claims of ´the most transparent administration ever,´ by a fake who never had any intention of doing that and a room full of reporters who knew it. He should have played word games with them right George? This has to be George Will, right?
The common element in nearly all the major New York Times and Washington Post stories about President Donald Trump this week is that they are based on source documents the outlets cannot authenticate, do not possess, admit are partial, and refuse to share. Friday’s supposed “bombshell” stories follow the same pattern. The Times reports that Trump told the visiting Russians that former FBI director James Comey was a “nut job,” and that firing him had eased “pressure” in his ability to conduct foreign policy — though the Times takes Trump to mean the legal pressure of the investigation. (That spin makes
Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein was aware before writing a memo deeply critical of James Comey that President Donald Trump planned to fire the FBI director, and had discussed Comey´s ouster with the future attorney general months before it happened. The disclosures were included in Rosenstein´s prepared remarks for a pair of highly unusual closed-door briefings he held with the full Senate and House on Thursday and Friday. The remarks were made public after his meeting with the House on Friday morning. "In one of my first meetings with then-Sen. Jeff Sessions last winter, we discussed the need for new leadership at
Some Democratic leaders around the country are growing increasingly concerned that the party could be repeating its errors from the 2016 election by looking past voters´ core concerns in lawmakers´ eagerness to take aim at the president. "We´re obsessed with what´s happening here, and a lot of American people are worried about that," Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti told NBC News during an interview in D.C. this week. "But if you´re out of a job or struggling with debt, you´ve got more primary concerns than even all of the drama here in Washington. And if nobody is speaking to it, besides
The American Health Care Act (AHCA), which passed the House earlier this month, is a health care revolution. It isn’t about returning to the way things were. It’s about asking the country to imagine a system that has never existed before. Instead of offering a plan centered on Washington, D.C., the AHCA is centered on you. It empowers you and respects your relationship with your family and your doctor. It delivers to you increased access, benefits, choices and health savings. The opposition has been so intense precisely because the plan is so ambitious. The next battle and opportunity to improve health
William Gladstone, the great Victorian Liberal leader, the most successful electoral politician of the age, believed that success in politics depended on right timing. This was why he often withdrew into silence, hesitating, turning things over in his mind, before coming to a decision and announcing it when he believed the right moment had come. It has to be said that our present prime minister, Theresa May, has in this respect shown herself to be a pupil of Gladstone. Much as I dislike and distrust her, she has shown the ability to keep her cards concealed, close to her chest, until
European Union leaders plan to move forward with the creation of an EU military headquarters within the next few days – and warn that Britain may still be expected to take part, even after Brexit. Plans to set up a joint Military Planning and Conduct Capability (MPCC) facility, agreed by all 28 member states in March, had been stalled by British objections to the facility having an operational military role. But speaking to reports in Brussels following a meeting of EU defence ministers on Thursday, the EU’s Foreign Affairs commissioner Federica Mogherini said the path was now clear, and plans would be
Sources within House Republican leadership told Breitbart News on Thursday that they believe former 2016 presidential candidate Evan McMullin may have spied on them last year, while he was policy director of the House Republican Conference. Suspicions arose after the Washington Post‘s Adam Entous reported Wednesday that House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) “made a politically explosive assertion in a private conversation on Capitol Hill with his fellow GOP leaders: that Trump could be the beneficiary of payments from Russian President Vladimir Putin.” The story was treated by other news outlets as a potential “smoking gun” implicating Trump. A closer look, however,
Thursday on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360,” Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz called into question the purpose of the Department of Justice naming Robert Mueller as a special counsel to investigate Russian involvement in the 2016 presidential election. Dershowitz argued Mueller’s appointment would benefit Trump given that “collaborating with the Russians” to get elected wasn’t illegal and Mueller’s role would be to investigate illegalities. “[I] think he will be the beneficiary of the special prosecutor,” Dershowitz said. “A special prosecutor is supposed to investigate a crime and most of the things that have been leveled at the Trump administration are not criminal acts.
If you read nothing but the Washington Post and New York Times, and spent all day watching cable news and hanging on to the words of the Ted Baxters at ABC, CBS, and NBC, you would think that the end was near for Trump -- that like Nixon he was in his final days. The premise for impeachment is false. They voted for Trump without any influence from Russia. They know Trump is too rich to
The Obama administration spied on the Trump campaign. Officials spilled results of that election espionage to Ned Parker, Jonathan Landay, and Warren Strobel of Reuters in exchange for Reuters portraying President Trump as a pawn of Putin. From Reuters: Michael Flynn and other advisers to Donald Trump’s campaign were in contact with Russian officials and others with Kremlin ties in at least 18 calls and emails during the last seven months of the 2016 presidential race, current and former U.S. officials familiar with the exchanges told Reuters. The previously undisclosed interactions form part of the record now being reviewed by
Very disturbing CCTV video assembled from the scene(s) near Times Square in New York, shows the deliberate and intentional attack of the driver. The driver was identified as 26-year-old Richard Rojas from the Bronx. His vehicular rampage killed an 18-year-old girl and seriously injured 22 others when he drove through crowds near Times Square. There is ZERO possibility of this being an “accident”. Nor was this a DUI or DWI event. The driver made a U-Turn and intentionally drove on the sidewalk for four blocks specifically targeting the largest possible groups and crowds, steering toward them and accelerating. It’s actually a
Long time CTH readers will note we extended well over a year of benefit-of-the-doubt to the motives of former FBI Director James Comey with regard to the severity of his politicized nature and disposition. Throughout the entire Clinton investigation we remained ambivalent to Comey’s motives. Indeed it wasn’t until after the Pulse nightclub terrorist attack when Comey obtusely noted the FBI had been contacted (prior to the attack) about the sketchy behavior of Omar Mateen by a ‘random concerned citizen’ -and our finding that the actual ‘citizen’ was the far more substantive St Lucie county sheriff Ken Mascara– that we
Michael Schmidt, the New York Times “journalist” behind the alleged “Trump-Comey Memo”, told fake news anchor, Brian Williams, that he has NOT seen the memo Comey allegedly wrote. Schmidt stumbled over his words as he commented to Williams, “Someone that had seen [the memo] had recounted details to me.” You can watch a video of Schmidt below: (Video) GotNews reports: Schmidt has been called out for getting a story wildly wrong before thanks to his anonymous sources. Schmidt, citing his anonymous federal law enforcement sources, claimed that one of the San Bernardino terrorists had talked about jihad openly. She didn’t.
Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said Thursday that Joe Lieberman would be a "good choice" for FBI director. The senator was asked about Lieberman by reporters upon walking out of a full-Senate meeting with Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who the Trump administration has said made the case that James Comey should be fired as FBI director. Comey was fired by Trump last week amid conflicting accounts about how the decision was reached. Lieberman, a former senator from Connecticut who was Al Gore´s running mate in 2000, is a top candidate for the position, Trump confirmed Thursday. Graham praised Lieberman as
Well that didn’t last long. Bob Beckel has been fired by Fox News just shortly after returning to air. Beckel, who played the part of the Washington Generals “token liberal” on The Five left the network in mid 2015, but recently came back just as his show moved to a coveted prime time slot at 9PM. Ratings for the new prime time line up have not been great since moving from the 5PM slot, as last week MSNBC enjoy According to Brian Steinberg, writing for Variety: “Bob Beckel was terminated today for making an insensitive remark to an African-American employee,”
WASHINGTON — President Trump told Russian officials in the Oval Office this month that firing the F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, had relieved “great pressure” on him, according to a document summarizing the meeting. “I just fired the head of the F.B.I. He was crazy, a real nut job,” Mr. Trump said, according to the document, which was read to The New York Times by an American official. “I faced great pressure because of Russia. That’s taken off.” Mr. Trump added, “I’m not under investigation.” The conversation, during a May 10 meeting — the day after he fired Mr. Comey
The sudden death of Roger Ailes (R.I.P.) yesterday is a grim omen for the network he envisioned and built. In the wake of the recent upheavals at Fox News, the conservative cable television network’s ratings are experiencing a precipitous decline from cable news leadership for the first time in the history of the channel. As the rest of the mainstream media continue their efforts to undermine and “resist” the Trump Administration, this development bodes ill for the future -- not only of the unique kind of fair and balanced if right of center reporting pioneered by the Fox News Channel
Reporters are rounding up comments from Republicans to paint the grim picture that the party is slowly losing faith in President Donald Trump for alleged misdeeds in dealing with Russian officials and for interfering with an investigation into the matter run by former FBI Director James Comey, whom Trump fired. “Even before the latest report about President Trump exploded across Washington on Tuesday, congressional Republicans were troubled,” Real Clear Politics reported. “When the president abruptly fired FBI Director James Comey, the timing was ‘troubling,’ multiple Republican lawmakers agreed,” the report said. ‘So, too, was the president’s tweet threatening to reveal
Target has long been loved by people because it´s a fun place to shop. At least it used to be a fun place to shop. Customer satisfaction with the total shopping experience at Target has declined for a fourth consecutive period, according to a new survey of 2,500 people done by investment bank Cowen. Declines in customer satisfaction were seen across the board, led by drops in customer service, merchandise selection and product quality. Overall, Cowen says customer satisfaction at Target plunged 383 basis points to 66.7%. It appears unhappy Target shoppers could be taking their business elsewhere. On Wednesday,
Right now, the very best you can say about Donald Trump is that he stinks at this whole president thing — in large part because he keeps creating trouble for himself and entirely on his own. Yes, the media are against him. Yes, the Democrats want his scalp. But everyone inclined to indulge President Trump in his self-pity about how he’s being badly treated by others in Washington and badly served by his own staff is ignoring the basic facts of the political situation he is bungling at present like no one has bungled it before. He just won an election and
Washington - Former Sen. Joe Lieberman is the leading contender to be named FBI director, a senior administration official and two other sources told CNN on Thursday. One of the sources said President Donald Trump found the Democrat-turned-independent "agreeable" after meeting with him. (Snip) Trump told television anchors at a lunch Thursday that he was close to making his decision. "I´m very close to choosing an FBI director," the President said, though he did not specify whether his choice was Lieberman. Lieberman emerging as the front-runner was first reported by Politico. Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham on Thursday said it’s clear that after Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein briefed the Senate on the investigation into Russian involvement in the presidential election that it has become a criminal probe. “The shock to the body is that this is now a criminal investigation,” Graham (R-SC) told reporters moments after he exited the Senate chamber. He said now that it has become a criminal investigation instead of an counterintelligence probe Congress may be impeded in carrying out its own examinations. “You’ve got a special counsel who has prosecutorial powers now, and I think we in Congress
The latest round of White House staff shake-up stories has prompted a change in how President Trump´s team handles the media, shifting away from engaging in issue debates with reporters to a blunt yes-no approach. Insiders said it is driven by Trump who was angered by a New York Times story predicting a staff shake-up that included dumping spokesman Sean Spicer. It was headlined: Looking Like a Liar or a Fool: What It Means to Work for Trump. "F**k the New York Times," Trump said. "They´re not our friends. We´re never going to win them over," he added, according to a
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) told Fox News on Thursday that Congress should abandon their own investigations and go back to focusing on Hillary Clinton’s emails. Senator Graham also said he has reason to believe that there are emails between Clinton campaign officials, democratic operatives to the Department of Justice regarding the Clinton email investigation. (Snip) I have reason to believe that there are emails between Clinton campaign officials, democratic operatives to the Department of Justice regarding the Clinton email investigation that happened on Obama’s watch. I have reason to believe those emails exist. I’m on the Judiciary Committee. And I think
