Trump´s Transportation pick cruised
through her Senate hearing

Elaine Chao, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for transportation secretary, breezed through her confirmation hearing before the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee on Wednesday. There were no protests or interruptions. The exchanges never got heated. And there was plenty of praise for Chao. (Snip) Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS) commented on how well-behaved and engaged Chao’s nieces were throughout the hearing. He also commended her for having a "great family."

Comments:
A solid connection with the establishment can be of great benefit.

Of course she did and it has nothing to do with her and everything to do with her husband. Smart of Trump to
add her to the Cabinet.

Giving McConnell´s wife a job was the price Trump paid for McConnell´s support for the rest of the cabinet. Of course she sailed through.

What do you expect. She is the wife of Mitch McConnell. She got the job to grease the skids with Mitch. His family income just got a big shot in the bank account. Pay to play? Just sayin.

Navy Secretary Ray Mabus has raised a few eyebrows with some of the names he has picked for naval ships. Why, critics questioned, would he name a ship in honor of the late gay rights leader Harvey Milk or after former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords when there are plenty of military heroes to choose from? Mabus has said he is honoring people who have shown heroism, just as past navy secretaries have done. (Snip) Transgender Navy veteran Paula Neira and Sen. A federal appeals court decided Thursday that people do not have a constitutional right to carry concealed weapons in public. Overturning a three-judge panel’s decision, a larger group of judges from the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals said California counties may require people who want permits for concealed guns to show a specific reason why they need the weapons. (Snip) The 11-judge panel took up the case after state Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris appealed a ruling by a panel of the 9th Circuit in February 2014 that struck down a policy of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

Professor Hans Joachim Schellnhuber (shown) wants to take us back to the Stone Age — literally. In a March 15 interview with the German newspaper Deutsche Welle, the German physicist declared that global warming is so serious that not only must we all give up the use of coal and our internal combustion vehicles in the next 13 years, but we must also ditch concrete and steel — for “wood, clay and stone.” If we don’t do this, along with other drastic measures, we are headed toward planetary warming of “4, 5, 6 or even 12 degrees,” he claims. Several Senate Democrats were unified in deriding originalism as a judicial philosophy during Monday’s Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to Supreme Court justiceship Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), ranking Democrat of the committee, described originalism as a "very troubling” jurisprudential approach. The Framers, she added, intended for the Constitution to be continuously reinterpreted over time (emphasis added): “Judge Gorsuch has also stated that he believes judges should look to the original public meaning of the Constitution when they decide what a provision of the Constitution means. FBI Director James Comey, in an extraordinary House hearing meant to clear the air on a host of allegations relating to the 2016 campaign, confirmed publicly for the first time Monday that the bureau is probing Russian meddling in the race including possible “links” to the Trump team – while disputing the president’s claim that his predecessor wiretapped him. The FBI director was called to testify alongside National Security Agency Director Michael Rogers for a public session of the House intelligence committee. Comey’s testimony could serve to fuel tensions with the White House, which maintains there’s no evidence of Trump-Russia

Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. on Tuesday said he and his estranged wife Sandi Jackson are $1.8 million in debt thanks to legal bills from their federal criminal prosecution and mounting fees from an acrimonious divorce playing out in courtrooms in two cities. Jackson Jr. talked to reporters during an at-times rambling question-and-answer session following a brief hearing in his divorce case at the Daley Center, opining on the state of Washington politics and the best way to settle the couple’s bills. State Waste: The Golden State´s vaunted bullet-train project, planned to connect San Francisco to Los Angeles, may be in its financial death throes. If so, it´s probably the best fiscal news for the Golden State in years. To say that Gov. Jerry Brown´s pet project, the so-called high-speed train, is troubled would be an understatement. From the very beginning, it has been a testament to political hubris, fiscal irresponsibility, outright lies and abysmal planning. The bullet train idea was floated on a blustery gust of political promises in 2008, when proponents put the high-speed rail to the state´s voters in
