Trump´s Transportation pick cruised
through her Senate hearing

Yahoo Finance, by Julia La Roche

Elaine Chao, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for transportation secretary, breezed through her confirmation hearing before the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee on Wednesday. There were no protests or interruptions. The exchanges never got heated. And there was plenty of praise for Chao. (Snip) Senator Jerry Moran (R-KS) commented on how well-behaved and engaged Chao’s nieces were throughout the hearing. He also commended her for having a "great family."

Comments:
A solid connection with the establishment can be of great benefit.

Of course she did and it has nothing to do with her and everything to do with her husband. Smart of Trump to
add her to the Cabinet.

Giving McConnell´s wife a job was the price Trump paid for McConnell´s support for the rest of the cabinet. Of course she sailed through.

What do you expect. She is the wife of Mitch McConnell. She got the job to grease the skids with Mitch. His family income just got a big shot in the bank account. Pay to play? Just sayin.

Navy Secretary Ray Mabus has raised a few eyebrows with some of the names he has picked for naval ships. Why, critics questioned, would he name a ship in honor of the late gay rights leader Harvey Milk or after former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords when there are plenty of military heroes to choose from? Mabus has said he is honoring people who have shown heroism, just as past navy secretaries have done. (Snip) Transgender Navy veteran Paula Neira and Sen. Dianne Feinstein are sponsoring Milk´s ship.

A federal appeals court decided Thursday that people do not have a constitutional right to carry concealed weapons in public. Overturning a three-judge panel’s decision, a larger group of judges from the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals said California counties may require people who want permits for concealed guns to show a specific reason why they need the weapons. (Snip) The 11-judge panel took up the case after state Atty. Gen. Kamala Harris appealed a ruling by a panel of the 9th Circuit in February 2014 that struck down a policy of the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

Stacey Dash is weighing in on everything from gun control to feminism and why she thinks transgender people should go to the bathroom in the bushes. The actress is releasing a new memoir, "There Goes My Social Life: From Clueless to Conservative," and it is already proving to be as controversial as the Fox pundit herself. (Snip) "I don´t know what to tell you, but I´m not gonna put my child´s life at risk because you want to change a law."

The abrupt resignation Monday evening of White House national security adviser Michael Flynn is the culmination of a secret, months-long campaign by former Obama administration confidantes to handicap President Donald Trump´s national security apparatus and preserve the nuclear deal with Iran, according to multiple sources in and out of the White House who described to the Washington Free Beacon a behind-the-scenes effort by these officials to plant a series of damaging stories about Flynn in the national media. The effort, said to include former Obama administration adviser Ben Rhodes—the architect of a separate White House effort to create what he described

Mika Brzezinski of Morning Joe revealed a tidbit that many may not know about the way Kellyanne Conway gets herself booked onto so many shows on behalf of the administration: the Trump campaign manager turned Senior Counselor often times texts directly to schedule an interview hit. But after what Brzezinski calls a never-ending cascade of “fake news, [and] information that is not true,” the MSNBC anchor is saying no more. “I know for a fact she tries to book herself on this show; I won’t do it,” Brzezinski said Wednesday morning. “Every time I’ve ever seen her on television, something’s

A huge well of molten carbon that would spell disaster for the planet if released has been found under the US. Scientists using the world´s largest array of seismic sensors have mapped a deep-Earth area, covering 700,000 sq miles (1.8 million sq km). This is around the size of Mexico, and researchers say it has the potential to cause untold environmental damage. The discovery could change our understanding of how much carbon the Earth contains, suggesting it is much more than we previously believed.

What kind of men are attracted to electric cars?

I was listening to an NPR report on the Chevy Bolt, an electric car that is very reasonably priced (if you´re a millionaire). But the thing that struck me was how most of the people being interviewed, the people who were interested or knowledgeable about electric cars, were mostly very effeminate-sounding men. The men interviewed spoke in soft, hushed tones, speaking almost musically, as if their voices had been "auto-tuned" like a Britney Spears song. And they stretched out certain vowel sounds to give an especially feminine lilt to their voices, saying things like: I like the fact I´m not pollu-taaang...

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg expressed concern about rising anti-immigrant sentiment during remarks she gave in Hawaii this weekend. The 83-year old justice, at ease with several leis around her neck, spoke to students from Mililani High School in Central Oahu. She was asked if immigrants have benefited the country, according to the Honolulu Civil Beat. “I think of the U.S. as a place that welcomes people from abroad who want to work and who are yearning to be free,” she said. “It’s disheartening to see that there are some people who don’t agree with that view who think our borders should be

Even Adele thinks Beyoncé should have won the album of the year Grammy over her. When the British pop star tearfully accepted the ceremony´s top award Sunday night, she shined a spotlight on the woman she said she has loved since she was 11 years old. "The artist of my life is Beyoncé, and this album to me, the ´Lemonade´ album, was just so monumental," Adele said. Certainly for her diehard fan base known as the Beyhive -- and for many music critics -- Beyoncé´s "Lemonade" was a creative masterpiece. But with its racial themes and imagery, some are questioning if

Yesterday well known Russian pair of phone pranksters, Vovan (Vladimir Kuznetsov) and Lexus (Alexei Stoliarov), placed a phone call to U.S. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) pretending to be Prime Minister Groisman of Ukraine. A February 11 New York Times opinion piece claims President Trump missed the mark with his executive order on immigration, suggesting he would have kept Americans safer by targeting guns instead of Muslim terrorists. The author tries to support this suggestion by pointing to things that have caused more American deaths than have been caused by Muslim terrorists. However, this deductive process is ruined by fact that the author does not bother naming all the things that cause more American deaths than have been caused by guns. For example, the NYT piece says, In the four decades between 1975 and

Make no mistake, we have just witnessed an operation by members of the CIA to take out a high official of our own government. An agency that is widely believed to have brought down democratically elected governments overseas is now practicing the same dark arts in domestic American politics. Senator Chuck Schumer, of all people, laid out on January 2nd what was going to happen to the Trump administration if it dared take on the deep state – the permanent bureaucracy that has contempt for the will of the voters and feels entitled to run the government for its own benefit: New

They pick the crops. Staff the restaurants. Mend the roofs. Mow the lawns. They work late at hospitals and airports. If you live in New Jersey, they probably pump your gas. What happens if they disappear? Unnerved by the high-profile arrests of 600 undocumented immigrants across six states last week -- not including Pennsylvania and New Jersey -- some Philadelphia-area businesses and restaurants that employ foreign-born staff, in the United States legally or not, are expected to take part Thursday in a “Day Without Immigrants” protest.
