Barack Obama paid tribute to his ´brother´, Joe Biden, on Tuesday as he gave an emotional farewell speech in Chicago. Looking back on his eight years in office, the outgoing President paid homage to his wife, his daughters and the American people - but seemed to save a special place in his heart for his VP. Biden was sitting with wife Jill as the President finished talking about his daughters, Malia and Sasha, and then moved on to a man who he clearly holds almost as dear to his heart. ´To Joe Biden, the scrappy kid from Scranton who became Delaware´s favorite son:
HUNGARY has launched a crackdown to purge groups funded by liberal mega donor George Soros in the wake of Donald Trump’s US election victory. Tough-talking prime minister Viktor Orban will use “all the tools at its disposal” to crack down on non-governmental organisations bankrolled by the Hungarian-born business magnate and investor. Mr Soros has become one of the US Democratic Party’s main source of funding after ploughing millions into Hillary Clinton’s bid for the White House. Szilard Nemeth, vice president of the ruling Fidesz part, said the groups linked to the philanthropist “serve global capitalists and back political correctness over national governments".
Tens of thousands of people have voted to oppose the implementation of unfair new libel laws that would muzzle the free Press. More than 140,000 people have responded to a Government consultation on whether to implement Section 40 (s.40) of the Crime and Courts Act, which could force newspapers and websites to pay libel costs even if they win a defamation case. While the Department for Culture Media and Sport has not given a breakdown, newspaper industry sources are confident there was a clear majority in favour of the repeal of s40. The consultation closed yesterday and it is believed at least
From Uzi Baruch at Arutz Sheva we have a straight up depiction on what’s happening at radicalized Muslim neighborhoods in and around Jerusalem. Specifically here it’s about the hostile Arab village of Jabel Mukaber from where an Arab terrorist emerged to murder four IDF soldiers by use of a truck to ram into his victims. Many more were injured. Apparently this terrorist is no exception. He is the rule. There are more where he came from, that is, Arab neighborhoods totally at war against Israel, while situated within Israel and enjoying all its freedoms and privileges – like driving. This is
“Intelligence agencies should never have allowed this fake news to "leak" into the public. One last shot at me. Are we living in Nazi Germany?” President-elect Donald Trump compared media reports that Russia has compiled a dossier of embarrassing sexual-related intelligence on him to Nazi-era propaganda. (Snip) “Intelligence agencies should never have allowed this fake news to "leak" into the public. One last shot at me. Are we living in Nazi Germany?” Trump tweeted early Wednesday morning. Meanwhile Wednesday, the Kremlin said it was "total nonsense" that Russian officials had assembled a file of compromising information on Trump. Two US officials said
S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley will reflect on her six years as S.C. governor when she gives her final State of the State address Wednesday. “You reflect on the hard times, and you reflect on the good times,” Haley said in an interview Monday. “You reflect on the relationships.” Haley will resign as governor to join the Trump Administration after she is confirmed by the U.S. Senate to become U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. South Carolina’s first female and minority governor will leave a complicated legacy of dramatic successes, half measures celebrated as successes and agencies that failed to protect
MARINE Le Pen has rocketed into the lead in the race to become France’s next president - just months ahead of the country’s general election. The National Front leader has usurped Conservative candidate Francois Fillon to take the lead according to an Ifop-Fiducial opinion poll. Le Pen is now leading the polls for the first time after taking advantage of Fillon’s declining popularity among France’s working class voters, according to the survey carried out for French weekly newspaper Paris Match, TV channel iTele and radio station Sud-Radio.
Leading Republican senator John McCain handed over an explosive dossier on Donald Trump´s alleged links to the FBI in December. The alarming report contains a string of lurid allegations which were supposedly made by Russian agents in a bid to control Trump. Senator McCain, who was branded as ´not a war hero because he was captured´ by Trump, received the dossier which was collated by a former British MI6 agent. (Snip) McCain withdrew his support of Trump´s candidacy in August after shocking audio emerged of the former reality TV star talking to Billy Bush using the phrase ´grab her in the p****´.
Barbra Streisand is standing with Meryl Streep, who used her acceptance speech at Sunday´s Golden Globe Awards to criticize Donald Trump for lacking empathy and infamously mocking a disabled reporter in 2015. A day after Streep delivered her blistering rebuke of the president-elect, Streisand called in to Hardball With Chris Matthews and expressed her solidarity. I thought that [Streep] said what she said beautifully, Streisand remarked. Regarding Trump´s ridiculing of journalist Serge F. Kovaleski 14 months ago, Streisand added, I completely agree with Meryl. It was a heartbreaking moment and so beneath the dignity of the presidency, let alone any respectful person. What we need more in this world
Professor Michael Eric Dyson thinks that white people should have an ‘Individual Reparations Account’ to make donations to black institutions and individuals. (Snip) I agree with reparations, but maybe this is my white privilege speaking: I can’t imagine actually doing that. That is what I meant by an I.R.A.: an individual reparations account. You ain’t got to ask the government, you don’t have to ask your local politician — this is what you, an individual, conscientious, “woke” citizen can do. But charity can’t be the end of it, right? The Koch brothers gave the United Negro College Fund $25 million, but I
Senator John McCain passed documents to the FBI director, James Comey, last month alleging secret contacts between the Trump campaign and Moscow and that Russian intelligence had personally compromising material on the president-elect himself. The material, which has been seen by the Guardian, is a series of reports on Trump’s relationship with Moscow. They were drawn up by a former western counter-intelligence official, now working as a private consultant. BuzzFeed on Tuesday published the documents, which it said were “unverified and potentially unverifiable”.
The Gold Star father who blasted Donald Trump at the Democratic convention this summer is returning to the national stage this week, firing off a letter demanding the Senate reject Sen. Jeff Sessions, Mr. Trump’s attorney general nominee. Khizr Khan, the Pakistan-born father of a U.S. Army captain killed in the Iraq war, said his son’s service was a rejection of people like Mr. Sessions, who he accused of associating with racially divisive and ‘intensely anti-Muslim” groups. Mr. Khan also said Mr. Sessions has defended proposals “that would single Muslim immigrants out for discriminatory treatment on the basis of their religious beliefs.” “My
Hillary Clinton’s political career is probably over, but just because she lost the presidential election to Donald Trump doesn’t mean she wasn’t prepared to win. Axios reporter Mike Allen has revealed Hillary’s list of prospective nominees for important cabinet posts in her administration, and it includes a number of interesting choices. John Podesta, her campaign chairman who accidentally exposed his entire email account to Russian hackers, was listed as the frontrunner to be Hillary Clinton’s secretary of state. Vice President Joe Biden was reportedly also being considered for the position. Facebook executive and Lean In author Sheryl Sandberg was in
The saga over alleged Russian interference in the U.S. elections took another sinister turn Tuesday, as it was revealed that U.S. intelligence officials provided President-elect Donald Trump with a charge that the Russians had obtained dirt on him. U.S. officials included a two-page synopsis of ´kompromat´ – Russian for compromising material – as part of their security briefing of Trump on Friday. The material was based on memos compiled by a British intelligence operative who was considered ´credible´ by the U.S. intelligence community, CNN reported. What is believed to be the document itself was published by Buzzfeed, which pointed out
One Silicon Valley executive had a few choice words to describe Americans living in the heart of the nation, and they were not flattering. Melinda Byerley, MBA and founder of Timeshare CMO, a Silicon Valley-based tech start-up, tweeted out Saturday afternoon describing what middle America could do to “get more jobs in their area.” Byerley says that the first thing those in middle America need to realize is that “no educated person wants to live in a sh**hole with stupid people.” Particularly, in a “sh**hole” filled with people who are “violent, racist, and/or misogynistic.” In Byerley’s opinion, “big corporations,” do
