Barbra Streisand is standing with Meryl Streep, who used her acceptance speech at Sunday´s Golden Globe Awards to criticize Donald Trump for lacking empathy and infamously mocking a disabled reporter in 2015. A day after Streep delivered her blistering rebuke of the president-elect, Streisand called in to Hardball With Chris Matthews and expressed her solidarity. I thought that [Streep] said what she said beautifully, Streisand remarked. Regarding Trump´s ridiculing of journalist Serge F. Kovaleski 14 months ago, Streisand added, I completely agree with Meryl. It was a heartbreaking moment and so beneath the dignity of the presidency, let alone any respectful person. What we need more in this world
Comments: I liked it better when droopy, old celebrities quietly faded away.
Poor babies, what this is all about is that now, their status has changed, no more going to parties at the White House. They are just ordinary mouth breathing, lip flapping citizens without power recognition.
No one cares who or what you agree with. You´ve been proven a partisan hack .....you and Meryl don´t speak for the voting public... you have no humility and Meryl used the wrong platform to froth at the mouth....,the blowback alone shows what fools you make of yourselves......
Wow, what NOT a shock that all the Hollyweird bobble heads are bobbing today. Streep took her moment on stage to shove her hypocritical, leftist opinions down our throats. We are used to this from Hollyweird and the media. We didn´t value them before and don´t now.
Babs just doubling down of stupidity. Who cares what BS has to say? I´m just going to cling to my Bible and my guns then watch some football and mixed martial arts cage fighting. It´s much more entertaining than Hollywood.
These ´celebrities´ do not understand that normal folks don´t care what THEY espouse. We have our own lives to live and we don´t need them to tell us how to live it. Obviously they can´t remember this line - " the election is over "- I think it was despicable to turn an awards show into a political diatribe, not that I have ever watched an awards show. They just entertain each other with their arrogance.
Barbra needs a teleprompter to sing her own songs at her concerts. It´s glorified karoake seeing one of her shows.
That line by Meryl about holding power to account? Didn´t seem to bother Hollywood when the power (democrat administration) was using the IRS against people, because it was against Republicans. Didn´t seem to bother the Hollywood crowd when the EPA was poisoning the water in Colorado and New Mexico.
OK. Meryl Streep. The thing to remember is that she’s an actor. She makes her living memorizing and delivering lines written for her by other people. She’s not a writer, and she doesn’t do improv.
So – who wrote her lines for her? Someone from Hillary’s camp? How long did she rehearse them? Did she rehearse in front of a mirror to get the facial expressions just the way she wanted them? Did she practice that little voice quiver, trying it out at different places? Did she practice different placements and durations of the pauses? How about her hand gestures?
As virtue signaling performances go, it wasn’t bad, but it didn’t really rise to the level of excellence, now did it? Because she is who she is, on a scale of 1 to 10 she always gets the gentlelady’s 3 just for showing up. So for this, I’d giver her a 4. I mean, she couldn’t even muster up a tear or two?
I saw La La Land. I’d like to see what Miss Stone could do with this script. Next!
Well of course you do dear, but no one cares.Love your voice but care about your politics, not much. Without the new social media no one would even hear your opinions-or care if they did, anymore then they care about mine. Please record a few more songs while you can still hit the notes.
Can we ask Streisand to show her HS diploma and an original copy of a porn movie she allegedly made while a teenager. I think her nose was used in place of a penis with Streep as the recipient. And why is she living in the US? What happened to her promise to leave if DJ Trump won? I´ll pay for a one way economy class ticket to Canada,New Zealand,Antarctica or Jupiter or was that last one from another genius Cher?
Isn´t it lovely to be lectured on morality by a bunch of Hollywood forks who are only actors? Hollywood, a din of sin if I ever saw one. They have no moral compass. They opened their checkbooks to a loser and now their hineys are chapped the Donald won.
Hey did you guys know that George Looney Clooney´s wife(beard) Amal is pregnant. Just like this news the fact that BS agrees with her idiot friend Streep Throat is something I don´t give a screeching RA about.
More than half of Americans tell polling organizations they disapprove of the job the president is doing, but even in that majority, there are factions. There are the conservative-leaning voters upset that President Donald Trump has not "drained the swamp" in Washington. There are the liberal-leaning voters appalled by his foreign-policy mishaps. (Snip) So as Opening Day in Baltimore approaches, do not expect to see Trump — reportedly once scouted by the Philadelphia Phillies as a pro prospect — on the mound at Camden Yards for a ceremonial first pitch. "Ultimately, that decision is with the ownership group as to, you know, what
On February 22, CNN hosted a debate between DNC chair candidates, inherently presenting a false sense of democracy. The election will be determined by the 447 members of the DNC, many of whom are the same superdelegate loyalists who anointed Hillary Clinton as the party’s presidential nominee—even after their constituents overwhelmingly voted for Sen. Bernie Sanders. CNN’s debate showed that the Democratic Party is continuing the same failed strategies that led to its current political paralysis. In the 2016 election cycle, Democrats lost not only the presidency and majorities in both houses of Congress, but hundreds of state legislatures across the country. “I am having a moment watching
San Salvador - Outside El Salvador’s international airport, families gather by a guard post to see their loved ones who have been deported by plane from the United States. Wearing a straw hat in the blazing sun, Elsa Canales, a 58-year-old woman from a fishing village on Salvador’s Pacific coast, waits for her son Marvin Sorto Canales who has been away almost two decades working without papers in San Antonio, Texas. Sorto, 36, was arrested in December after failing to turn up to an immigration court appearance several years earlier. His deportation order rapidly came through this month, Canales says.
Primark has pulled a t-shirt inspired by TV show The Walking Dead after complaints of racism. The white t-shirt has the words “eeny meeny miny moe” as well as a baseball bat wrapped in barbed wire emblazoned on it. (Snip) When Ian Lucraft saw the t-shirt in Sheffield, he complained directly to Primark’s chief executive Paul Marchant in a letter he then circulated amongst various newspapers. Lucraft wrote: “We were shocked when we came face to face with a new t-shirt with a racially explicit graphic and text. It was fantastically offensive and I can only assume that no-one in the
Although you may hold suspicions about your neighbor who feeds the local stray cats, new research has found no link between owning a feline and exhibiting psychotic symptoms. The University College London findings cast doubt on previous research, which suggested that people who grew up with cats are at a higher risk of mental illness. Cats are a primary host of Toxoplasma Gondii (T. Gondii), which is associated with mental health conditions like schizophrenia. That link led researchers to believe raising children in a household with cats could lead to later development of mental illness. “The message for cat owners is
In San Francisco, an Indian software engineer on a work permit canceled plans to bid on a $900,000 home. In Washington, a Brazilian nonprofit executive passed on a fixer-upper near her office. And, in Mesa, Arizona, a 24-year-old son of undocumented Mexican immigrants won the trust of a bank -- a green light for a mortgage -- but now fears deportation. President Donald Trump’s immigration policies threaten to crack a foundation of the American economy: the residential real estate market. Legal and otherwise, immigrants, long a pillar of growth in homebuying, are no longer feeling the warm welcome and optimism
Paris - Tiny natural ponds pose an overlooked danger for speeding up global warming, according to a study published Monday in the journal Nature Climate Change. In experiments designed to simulate moderate future warming, scientists in Britain found that such ponds -- a metre (three feet) across -- gradually lose the capacity to soak up one kind of greenhouse gas and give off even more of another. After seven years at higher-than-ambient temperatures, "the ability of the ponds to absorb carbon dioxide was reduced by almost half, while methane release nearly doubled," said lead-author Gabriel Yvon-Durocher, a professor at the University
Macy´s, the nation´s largest department store chain, says its earnings for the quarter that includes the holiday period dropped nearly 13 percent as results were dragged down by lower sales, store closures and other costs. The profit results beat Wall Street expectations, but Macy´s said it would post another year of sales declines for a key revenue measure. The latest quarter marks the eighth straight period of sales declines for the critical metric. Like many department stores, Macy´s has faced sluggish sales as customers buy more online and less at the malls where they are often an anchor. Macy´s has
Iran’s Supreme Leader called on Palestinians on Tuesday to pursue an uprising against Israel, suggesting the Israeli government was a "cancerous tumor" that should be confronted until Palestinians were completely liberated. "... by Allah’s permission, we will see that this intifada will begin a very important chapter in the history of fighting and that it will inflict another defeat on that usurping regime," Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said, according to his website. The Supreme Leader’s bellicose comments, made during a two-day conference in Tehran focused on its support for the Palestinians, come at a time of increasingly heated rhetoric between Iran,
“Here’s the interesting thing about Islam,” Keith Ellison, the Minnesota congressman currently running for the chairmanship of the Democratic National Committee, said. It was a sunny, gelid afternoon just after Christmas. “The Prophet Muhammad—peace and blessings be upon him—his father dies before he’s ever born. His mother dies before he’s six. He’s handed over to a foster mom who’s so poor, the stories say, her breasts are not full enough to feed him. So he grows up as this quintessential orphan, and only later, at the age of forty, does he start to get this revelation. And the revelation is
DES MOINES, Iowa — After decades as the crossroads of prairie populists and checkbook conservatives, Iowa has suddenly become solidly Republican like many of its Midwestern neighbors. It was one of four states — along with Kentucky, Missouri and New Hampshire — that flipped to complete GOP control in the November election, but Iowa´s rush of new legislation has been the most intense. In an all-night session last week, Iowa lawmakers approved a bill similar to one enacted in Wisconsin six years ago that strips most public sector unions of long-held collective bargaining rights, including health insurance. Jeff Orvis, a
Nearly 15 years ago, I informed my skeptical father that I was pursuing a job with the Central Intelligence Agency. Among his many concerns was that others would never believe I had resigned from the agency when I sought my next job. “Once CIA, always CIA,” he said. But that didn’t give me pause. This wouldn’t be just my first real job, I thought then; it would be my career. That changed when I formally resigned last week. Despite working proudly for Republican and Democratic presidents, I reluctantly concluded that I cannot in good faith serve this administration as an
Mika Brzezinski, co-host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, had an unfortunate turn of phrase the other day. She said it’s the mission of the press to “control exactly what people think.” My suspicion is that this was less a Freudian slip than a simple slip-up. Brzezinski was referring to her fear that President Trump may be trying to control the way people think by discrediting the media — whom he calls “enemies of the American people” — and she lost her rhetorical footing, stumbling into saying that mind control is “our job.” But the misstatement resonated with a lot of people,
Former House Speaker John Boehner predicted on Thursday that a full repeal and replace of Obamacare is “not going to happen.” Boehner, who resigned in 2015 amid unrest among conservatives, said at an Orlando health care conference that the idea that a repeal-and-replace plan would blitz through Congress is just “happy talk.” Instead, he said changes to former President Barack Obama’s signature legislative achievement would likely be relatively modest. “[Congressional Republicans are] going to fix Obamacare – I shouldn’t call it repeal-and-replace, because it’s not going to happen,” he said. Boehner’s comments come as Republican lawmakers across the country are facing angry constituents
Entire San Jose neighborhoods were submerged by water on Wednesday during the worst floods for 100 years. 50,000 people were told to flee their homes after evacuation warnings were issued in the early hours of the morning. Most were issued a flood warning but for 14,000 the order was mandatory. The flooding began when Coyote Creek, which runs through Silicone Valley from the San Francisco Bay, burst its banks on Tuesday night. It sent dirty water pouring in to the towns below it at frightening pace. On Wednesday, residents complained that the alert had not been sent out fast enough. Some
The Trump administration Wednesday revoked federal guidelines issued by former President Barack Obama that allowed public school students to use restrooms and other facilities corresponding to their gender identity. A document submitted to the Supreme Court by the Solicitor General´s office said that the Obama-era directive issued this past May did not "undergo any formal public process" or explain how the directive was "consistent with the express language of Title IX," the federal law outlawing sex discrimination in education and activities. "Congress, state legislatures, and local governments are in a position to adopt appropriate policies or laws addressing this issue,"
According to an exclusive in Us Weekly, Hillary Clinton was approached about being on Dancing with the Stars‘s 24th season. The Democratic former nominee for president declined the offer, although her shimmy would have undoubtedly won her the popular vote. The White House blocked a number of news outlets from covering spokesman Sean Spicer’s question-and-answer session on Friday afternoon. Spicer decided to hold an off-camera “gaggle” with reporters inside his West Wing office instead of the traditional on-camera briefing in the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room. Among the outlets not permitted to cover the gaggle were news organizations President Trump has singled out for criticism, including CNN. The New York Times, The Hill, Politico, BuzzFeed, the Daily Mail, BBC, the Los Angeles Times and the New York Daily News were among the other news organizations not permitted to attend.
An upbeat Hillary Clinton popped back into the political spotlight Friday with a three-minute address to Democrats, applauding them for being the ´resistance´ against President Donald Trump. She urged her party to ´keep fighting and keep the faith,´ while adding, ´I´ll be there right with you every step of the way.´ Clinton´s message was released in conjunction with the Democrats´ meeting in Atlanta, Georgia, where they´ll decide new Democratic National Committee leadership tomorrow. But Clinton´s frequent forays back into the limelight suggest she could still write another political chapter post-2016. She´s called out the new president several times on Twitter, writing simply ´3-0´
State Rep. La Shawn Ford (D-Chicago) said he is drafting legislation that would rename the majority of Interstate 55 in Illinois as the “Barack Obama Expressway.” According to a statement from his office, Ford will propose renaming the stretch of the expressway from the Tri-State Tollway to East St. Louis. “Renaming I-55 for President Barack Obama would not only be an honor for America’s 44th president, but it will be the right measure we should approve for Illinois’ very own state Senator and U.S. Senator,” Ford said in a statement. Between the Tri-State and Lake Shore Drive, the expressway bears
An image of White House advisor Stephen Miller is making the rounds on the internet — and it allegedly shows him making the “white power” hand gesture on live TV. Except, as Mediaite so eloquently pointed out, he was just fixing his tie before appearing on “Face the Nation.” Take a look at the picture in question: (Tweet/Photo) DailyKOS made a point on February 21 to insist that Miller is a white supremacist and that his gesture was some sort of anti-Semitic, “white power” shout out. Here´s their reasoning behind such a strong accusation. The right hand, on top, is
Milo Yiannopoulos is neither a free speech martyr nor a conservative. Rather, he is a flamboyant and provocative troll. Ross Douthat accurately describes him this way: [He is] a gay cross-dressing Catholic part-Jewish Brit who likes to boast about his sexual appetite, favors "ironic" racial and misogynist humor, and not occasionally describes the president of the United States as “Daddy.” Daily Beast media columnist Lloyd Grove views him as: ... [an] embattled Donald Trump groupie and alt-right provocateur -- who usually baits African Americans, Jews, women, transgender people, and his fellow gay men at his various speaking engagements in a merry tone of
Hillary Clinton resurfaced today, sending out a tweet in support of the protests going on at Congressional town halls around the country and calling out lawmakers who won´t face constituents. ´If you can´t stand the heat, get out of the ... Congress,´ she teased, linking to an editorial from the Kansas City Star that said just that. ´Representing the people means showing up, even when the exchange may not be among friends,´ the paper´s editorial board said. During the campaign, now President Donald Trump had made his raucous rallies a positive talking point, while mocking the poor attendance of Clinton´s events. Now, he was
Longtime radio and cable news broadcaster Alan Colmes is dead at the age of 66. Fox News moments ago reported on Colmes’ death with a segment narrated by Sean Hannity, who paired with Colmes for years on the venerable talk show Hannity & Colmes. Hannity identified his old colleague as, “one of the nicest, kindest, and most generous people.” This news is breaking and we will update as we learn more.
