White House Calls on Stores to ‘Follow
Example’ of CVS, Quit Selling Tobacco

PJ Media, by Bridget Johnson

The White House issued special praise for drugstore chain CVS for its decision to stop selling tobacco products. The chain announced the move in conjunction with changing its name to CVS Health. CVS had planned to stop selling tobacco Oct. 1, but bumped the day up to Wednesday. “Along with the start of CVS Health, the sale of cigarettes and tobacco products at CVS/pharmacy ends today,” Larry J. Merlo, president and CEO of CVS Health, said in a statement. “By eliminating cigarettes and tobacco products from sale in our stores, we can make a difference in the health of all

Comments:
I´m glad this White House has their priorities straight! s/o The only thing that is surprising is that the Communists in the Democrat party haven´t tried to pass a bill ordering all other stores to stop selling tobacco products. How will they pay for all those uninsured children without those taxes??

0bama, besides being a closet cigarette smoker, is a pothead and probably still does cocaine (told by his drug dealer). There is no record or mention of him going to rehab, even though this is suppose to be a very addictive drug. {I once saw the aftermath of a young women ODing from it in an emergency room).

Sounds like a liberal who just *knows* things. In fact, he has no evidence for or against this assumption.

And how will they make up for all of the lost tobacco tax revenue? First they try to shame people into quitting smoking, and then after those people gain weight from not smoking anymore, they shame them for being fat. These jokers are truly something else.

Leftist propagandists just can´t help lying. When they say so many thousands die from smoking, it is because if you EVER smoked, and you die from any cause, it is counted as a "smoking related death." Then all the propagandists make the jump to saying that smoking CAUSED the death. On almost any subject, leftists lie about the basic premise, make a jump to something else, and trumpet it as the truth. Smoking, Global Warming, the "97% of scientists" that believe in AGW, the Spotted Owl, Wolf introduction, etc. etc.

The original 1964 Surgeon General report on smoking noted that people who smoked pipes exclusively and did not inhale (as most pipe smokers do not) actually lived a bit longer than non-smokers. A follow-up S.G. report lowered the longevity numbers a bit but showed no statistically significant difference in life expectancy between pipe smokers and non-smokers

Just like a few restaurants decided to go smoke-free, but lost customers as a result.

So they go the government to force ALL restaurants to go smoke free so that they would not have to pay the price for their own decisions.

All was lost was the OTHER restaurants rights.

Socialism dies when it runs out of other folks money.

As a former smoker I find all of this incredibly ridiculous! People are going to smoke, its their business, not the White House´s.

All any of this does is raise the price per pack - I was up $8.20 a pack before I quit five years ago up from 6.50 in a year´s time.

This is just one more personal freedom of choice 0bama and his posse are trying to take away.

These people just go whichever way the political wind blows. and with the legalization of M. in Colorado and possibly other States, what will the WH say about those "drugs", which are far more harmful than tobacco.

Looks like smokers have NO human rights.
I recently saw a certified death certificate and was shocked to see a box (to be checked)if the deceased smoked. The deceased could have drowned, or been killed in an acident, but that box had to be checked if the deceased smoked!
There was no box to check if the deceased drank alcohol or had abortions or was homosexual.
Only smoking was singled out.
Can we say manipulation of statistics?

In early June 1964, a group of Republican governors sought to wrestle control of their party from Barry Goldwater, the Arizona conservative who was about to lead the GOP to one of the most crushing defeats in its history. The governors saw a disaster in the making, and sought a moderate candidate who could capture the imaginations of grassroots Republicans—but also beat President Lyndon Johnson in the general election.
