No Such Thing As A Free Lunch:
IRS Mulls Tax On Employee Meals

Forbes, by Kelly Phillips Erb

Original Article

When I was contemplating where I might want to practice after law school, I was struck by the description of one particular firm in Philadelphia with a thriving tax practice. A former partner warned me off, explaining that they brought lunch to your desk. After years of scratching together my own lunch, I thought that sounded pretty great so I asked what was so terrible about having your lunch brought to you. “They do it,” she said simply, “Because they don’t want you to leave.” She wasn’t kidding. It turns out that providing lunch and other perks at your desk

Comments:
This could add up to a couple thousand dollars of taxable income each year. Carrying your own lunch will soon be back in style.

This is beyond stupid.

I have worked at companies that provided free lunches (and breakfasts) on a regular basis. The companies do it, of course to keep employees on site, but more importantly to bring a "cooling off" period to pressurized situations. The social atmosphere for teams facing short deadlines can be very tense. Buffet style lunches (or catered meals) provides the ideal situation for normal social interactions, and repair any small interpersonal tensions.

Government gets everything wrong.

Just one more reason the IRS needs to go and the income tax needs to go too. National sales tax and repeal of the 16th Amendment.

The issue is more back taxes than prospective ones. The company could provide lunches at cost, which would not be a huge burden for high tech workers to cover.

The issue is private sector productivity and how many new ways the regime can find to suppress and destroy it.

If they can steal some more money along the way, it´s a win-win for them.

There you go, let a bureaucrat have too much power and they will use it...AGAINST YOU.

The only solution is to delete the entire agency and have a simple flat tax...10% on everyone, no deductions, no favors, no fluf.

Istanbul -- The latest ISIS advance in Syria has brought a swath of the country´s north-central Kurdish region under siege, with Kurdish leaders warning of another humanitarian crisis without international intervention. The Syrian Kurdish town of Kobani (Ayn al-Arab in Arabic) is an island, surrounded by ISIS on three fronts and the Turkish border to the north. The town was already mostly blockaded by ISIS, but in the past three days some 60 nearby villages fell under ISIS control, according to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The bodies of eight people, including several health workers and three journalists, have been found days after they were attacked while distributing information about Ebola in a Guinean village near the city of Nzerekore, according to Reuters. "The eight bodies were found in the village latrine," Albert Damantang Camara, a spokesman for Guinea´s government, told Reuters on Thursday. "Three of them had their throats slit." So much for all that outrage. Nearly 90 percent of Americans say the recent outcry about domestic violence in the NFL hasn’t changed how much professional football they watch — and less than a third of the nation believes NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell should resign. That’s the result of an exclusive NBC News/Marist poll, which also finds that a majority of Americans – including nearly six in 10 self-described football fans – say they disapprove of the way the NFL has handled the domestic-violence allegations. The poll comes after a series of damaging stories indicating that NFL officials had turned

DENVER — Republican Rep. Cory Gardner is leading Democratic Sen Mark Udall in Colorado, according to a new independent poll released Thursday. The 48-40 Gardner lead among likely voters in The Quinnipiac University Poll contrasts with two other independent polls released earlier this month that found Udall tied or slightly ahead in the race. It is from the same pollster that found Democratic Gov. John Hickenlooper 10 points behind his Republican challenger, a finding that also conflicted with other polls that have shown that race essentially tied. The Quinnipiac poll surveyed 1,211 voters by telephone from Sept. 10-15 and has

One has to wonder just how often members of President Barack Obama´s national security team talk with each other. The federal government is famously gigantic, but the president´s Cabinet is not, particularly if you narrow it to the inner circle that crafts military and national security strategy. One would assume that it wouldn´t be all that difficult to prepare a coherent approach to an international crisis, particularly as Cabinet members testify before Congress amidst deep skepticism of the White House´s strategy to destroy the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS, or in the administration´s preferred acronym, ISIL). And yet,

BEIRUT - The militant Islamic State group released a video warning the United States that its fighters are waiting for it in Iraq if President Barack Obama sends troops there, as his top general said may happen if the current strategy of airstrikes fails. The slick 52-second video entitled "Flames of War" shows militants blowing up tanks and images of wounded U.S. soldiers. It then shows a clip of Obama saying that combat troops will not be returning to Iraq, ending with a text overlay that reads "fighting has just begun." The video´s timing, released late Tuesday, suggested it was

In his major address explaining America’s new war against ISIS, President Obama pledged that there would be no U.S. combat troops. On Tuesday, Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said he may recommend ground forces in the future. The White House is seeking to gloss over the rift between the president and his top general, but it is clear that just below the waterline Obama is not on the same page as the commanders who will be leading the new fight. U.S. military officials and members of Congress have complained privately for weeks that Obama

Whenever Barack Obama seems in danger of falling, do we have to hear that George W. Bush made the cliff? It happened with the economy. For the president’s staunchest defenders, legitimate questions about whether the stimulus was wisely crafted and whether Obamacare was rushed took a back seat to lamentations over the damage that his predecessor had done. Obama wasn’t perfect, but at least he wasn’t Bush. (Snip) Enough. It’s true that Obama hasn’t replicated Bush’s offenses, and it’s consoling. Based on interviews with DNC staffers -- both former and current -- the piece described Wasserman Schultz as something of a modern-day Tracy Flick: over-eager, disloyal and not shy about promoting her ambitions. That rare respiratory illness sickening children around the country continues to crop up in new places. It has been confirmed in 22 states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Friday, appearing in three states where it had not been previously: Georgia, Michigan and Washington state. While enteroviruses in general are quite common, this particular strain — enterovirus 68 — has not cropped up terribly often since it was first identified in 1962. The French did for President Obama on Friday what they refused to do for his predecessor — they joined the fight in Iraq. Two Rafale fighter planes armed with laser-guided bombs “entirely destroyed” an Islamic State munitions depot and killed dozens of ISIS fighters, making France the first coalition country to make good on its promise to battle the murderous militants. “Other operations will follow in the coming days with the same goal — to weaken this terrorist organization and come to the aid of the Iraqi authorities,” French President Francois Hollande vowed. The French famously said “non” in 2003 when President Bush
