Could climate change doom Maine lobsters?
Associated Press, by Staff

FRIENDSHIP, Maine -- Imagine Cape Cod without cod. Maine without lobster. The region´s famous rocky beaches invisible, obscured by constant high waters. It´s already starting to happen. The culprit is the warming seas - and in particular the Gulf of Maine, whose waters are heating up faster than 99 percent of the world´s oceans, scientists say. Long-established species of commercial fish, like cod, herring and northern shrimp, are departing for colder waters. Black sea bass, blue crabs and new species of squid - all highly unusual for the Gulf - are turning up in fishermen´s nets. The Gulf of Maine´s warming reflects broader

Comments:
More headline grabbing alarmism from the warmists. Of course the bugs will just adapt or move like animals have been doing for millions and millions of years BUT if this story ruins Michelle 0bama´s day, that makes me happy

In Maurituius there is a restaurant by top Georgetown chef that grows and serves Maine lobster.
Lobster will move or be moved.
Somehow - I think this is more alarmism - Michelle will make it her signature achievement .

What the heck is this rising sea lie they repeat? Of course story says the warming increases the lobsters population resulting in low prices. By knowing that they lie all the time my guess is the increased or over fishing has increased the numbers being sold resulting in the low prices and fewer numbers to count.

The sea level has risen so far so fast that an entire bay cano longer be reached? it is apparently just, well gone or all the approaches flooded to such a depth that it can no longer be approached by land, or boat apparently.

The rate of temperature since 2004 has increasd to 0.5 degrees a year and is expected to rise a full 4 degrees over the next 85 years? Math is obviously not taught in journalism school anymore.

Warmer water increases Lobster yields but the long Island sound fishery is largely unchanged?

Puffins are dying because the warm water has resulted I a huge number of (yummy to a puffin) squid moving in?

For 50 years we have been pounded by NOAA about fisheries collapse on the great banks due to over fishing, Canada has banned Cod fishing for years, all the fishermen switched to Menhadden (for fertilizer and pet food) and the old standby, scalloping as quotas are slashed again and again but now AL of the collapse is due to Global Warming and commercial fishing is not even worth a mention?

What a crock of fearmongering. Give it up already.

The fact of the matter is that the lobster season in Maine got off to a slow start due to the fact that soft shell lobsters, known as "shedders" were late due to unusally cold waters here. Thankfully they migrated inshore in time for the Lobster Festival in Rockland Maine.

Does Diane Cowan have an explanation for the fact that the area she´s researching was once covered by an ice sheet that was miles thick? Where did that ice go, Diane, and when? Warmer seas are actually good news. The lobsters will already be boiled when plucked from the water, which reduces usage of fossil fuels to cook them.

From AP, NOAA, and NGOs.

And it could even be true but that isn´t the way to bet.

Government agencies, such as NOAA, always find what they most wish to find, reasons for more funding and power. And AP dutifully informs the public.

Every place is Ground Zero for Climate Change and the outlook at each place on Earth is worse than at all other places.

WASHINGTON — The Justice Department expects to bring criminal charges in the coming months in investigations involving financial institutions, Attorney General Eric Holder said Wednesday as he called for better incentives for Wall Street whistleblowers who report crime. Holder did not describe the investigations in a speech at New York University’s law school except to say that they’re “focused on the conduct of individuals” and involve wrongdoing that has undermined the financial markets. He used the address to urge Congress to raise a cap on the amount of money that a whistleblower can receive for reporting misconduct. Such cooperation is essential since

Given the massive effort behind convincing us that Obamacare is a resounding success, it’s almost surprising that a recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal Poll found support languishing at 34%. Part of the problem is the credibility Obamacare supporters lose by attempting to prove two questionable propositions. First, that Obamacare is having a positive impact on our health care system and, second, that it’s doing so without any negative impact on our economy. For example, a recent report by the Urban Institute and Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, both Obamacare supporters, found “little evidence” that Obamacare’s employer mandate is affecting part time employment.

Yesterday, former Vice President Al Gore presented his fourth annual ‘24 Hours of Reality.’ Broadcast to millions of people, the event is “dedicated to sparking action on climate change.” As with most Gore productions, only carefully pre-screened questions are allowed from journalists. Considering what’s at stake—billions of dollars, millions of jobs, and, if Gore is right, the fate of the global environment—that is not good enough. Reporters must be encouraged to ask any questions they like. Several leading climate experts were asked what question they would most like media to ask Gore in a public forum.
