Ukraine agrees ´permanent

BBC News [UK], by Staff

Ukraine´s President Petro Poroshenko says he has agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone on a "permanent ceasefire" with rebels. "Their conversation resulted in agreement on a permanent ceasefire in the Donbass region [the regions of Donetsk and Luhansk]," his office said. "They reached a mutual understanding on steps leading to peace." The announcement comes as US President Barack Obama meets Baltic leaders in Estonia ahead of a Nato summit. He is due to hold talks in the capital Tallinn with the presidents of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, all former Soviet states which joined Nato a decade ago.

Comments:
Is this what we here at Lucianne like to call "a Gaza Truce"?

Giant metal fences nicknamed the "Ring of Steel", heavily armed warships and military helicopters provided a menacing backdrop as preparations got into full swing for the latest Nato conference today. The 12 mile long security fence and floating firepower have been assembled to protect world leaders as this year´s summit gets underway in Newport on Thursday. [Snip] British warship HMS Duncan sailed into Cardiff Bay today as security was beefed up on the eve of the summit. She will be joined by a fleet of international warships including a French frigate, a superfast Norwegian missile patrol boat and minesweepers.

WASHINGTON--Terrorists from Islamic State claim to have beheaded a second American journalist in two weeks, videotaping the crime and blaming the US civilian’s death personally on US President Barack Obama, who continued to authorize air strikes against the group in northern Iraq despite its warnings. [Snip] Sotloff grew up in Miami, the son of Arthur and Shirley Sotloff, and previously worked for Temple Beth Am Day School in Florida, according to the synagogue website. British troops could be sent to the Ukraine on a military exercise this month, a defence minister revealed today. A platoon of about 30 men may take part in an annual US-Ukraine exercise involving hundreds of troops around Lviv near the Polish border. [Snip] It is one of a series of exercises in eastern Europe designed to reassure Nato member states and to deter Russian aggression. Mr Brazier said the Allies are "ramping up" sanctions against Russia following its annexation of Crimea and its support for rebel forces in eastern Ukraine. U.S. drone strikes are believed to have killed the leader of the Somali terrorist group al-Shabab, who ordered the massacre at a Kenyan shopping mall last year that killed 67 people. U.S. Intelligence officials believe Ahmed Abdi Godane was traveling in a two-car convoy Monday night near al-Shabab´s main base in Barawe when American drone aircraft hit the vehicles with missiles. Six people were killed in the attack and Somali authorities say they think Godane is among the dead--though the Pentagon said it is still awaiting confirmation. Godane, also known as Mukhtar Abu Zubeyr, is al-Shabab´s spiritual leader under whose direction the

Barack Obama has often scorned American foreign policy that took military action for action´s sake – but the apparent beheading of a second American hostage now presents a profound test of this position. [Snip] The gaffe prompted derision from his political opponents who said the president was not judicious, as his supporters contend, but weak and indecisive. However the apparent killing of the two Americans in the most gruesome manner imaginable now plunges this issue right through the psychological defences of a war-weary middle America that has tried to keep the collapse of Iraq at arms-length. President Obama needs to take action to stop Islamic State (Isis) militants from targeting cities in America and Western Europe, two senators have warned. Without offering specifics on any threats or suggestions on how to confront them, the leaders of the Senate and House of Representatives intelligence committees urged the White House to work to prevent the Islamic State extremists from launching attacks on US soil. The bipartisan pair shared a dire warning against Isis, which now has control of vast swathes of Syria and Iraq, has killed civilians from that region and beheaded American journalist James Foley. “This is

Because I am a black conservative, someone wrote asking me this great question. “What is it that compels some black men and women to cling to, and follow people like Sharpton, Jackson, Wright, Obama, Spike Lee, Black Panthers, Holder, etc.?” I have pondered the same question. Some black folks embrace victim status because it provides cover for their laziness and irresponsible lifestyles. Black Judases preach a false, evil gospel of victimhood-ism for profit. Some blacks are racist, pure and simple. I believe that a majority of black Americans simply have not been exposed to unfiltered conservatism – to blacks articulating how blessed they

WASHINGTON — The current Congress is on track to be the worst ever at passing laws since modern record-keeping began, with three of its lawmakers failing to introduce a single bill, The Post has learned. The divided House and Senate have managed to pass just 163 laws that garnered President Obama’s signature since the two-year term began in January 2013. At this rate, Congress will have no problem beating the previous record set during the 2011-2013 session in which 284 laws were passed. That was down from 385 laws passed in the 2009-2011 session.
