Putin: You’re next, Kazakhstan
Hot Air, by Noah Rothman

When Russian President Vladimir Putin began referring to portions of Ukraine by their Tsarist-era name, Novorossiya, Russia hands expressed alarm. Novorossiya, or “New Russia,” incorporates the area of Southern Ukraine from Donbass to the present day border with Moldova. Some suggested that Putin’s brazen invasion and annexation of the Crimean Peninsula was a prelude to a much more significant land grab. They noted that Putin could have designs on the entirety of Southern Ukraine, linking Russia to the portion of Moldova known as Transnistria, an area which has been under Russian occupation for years and is already a de facto Russian

Putin wouldn´t dare do such a thing. Why, it might actually disappoint Obama and affect their relationship.

Argentina´s controversial Vice-President Amado Boudou received yet another judicial headache on the same day as he took over the role of the country´s interim head of the Executive as President Cristina Fernández travelled to the Vatican to meet with Pope Francis this Saturday. Prosecutor Gerardo Pollicita charged Boudou for the falsification of his DNI identity card. Boudou was scheduled to attend a hearing at the Buenos Aires courthouse, where the Criminal Appeals Court was going to review his indictment, over fake car documents, issued by Federal Judge Claudio Bonadío last month.

Do you know what you´re doing? That´s our question to the Americans for Responsible Solutions PAC after it aired a 30-second ad attacking Martha McSally, GOP candidate for Congress in District 2. The ad is a nasty piece of work. Demagoguery in heart-rending tones. A mother with sorrowful eyes appears on screen and tells the real-life story of a family horror. "My daughter was just 19 when she told her boyfriend their relationship was over. And he got a gun and shot her and my husband." Portraits emerge of the two victims — a pretty young girl and her father in military dress.

Russian strategic nuclear bombers carried out air defense zone incursions near Alaska and across Northern Europe this week in the latest nuclear saber rattling by Moscow. Six Russian aircraft, including two Bear H nuclear bombers, two MiG-31 fighter jets and two IL-78 refueling tankers were intercepted by F-22 fighters on Wednesday west and north of Alaska in air defense identification zones, said Navy Capt. Jeff A. Davis, a spokesman for the U.S. Northern Command and North American Aerospace Defense Command. Two other Bears were intercepted by Canadian jets on Thursday. “The group of Russian aircraft flew a loop south, returning westward toward

Russia has said the conduct of the Scottish referendum "did not meet international standards", with its observers complaining the count took place in rooms that were too big and that the procedure was badly flawed. In an apparent attempt to mirror persistent western criticism of Russia´s own elections, Igor Borisov – an accredited observer – said the poll failed to meet basic international norms. Borisov and three other Russians arrived in Edinburgh on Wednesday evening, the state news agency Ria Novosti reported. The team from Moscow´s Public Institute of Suffrage watched voting take place in the Scottish capital and the surrounding area.

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on Thursday said media outlets CNN en español, NTN24, and the Miami Herald have launched an international campaign claiming "the state of Aragua had been hit by a virus that had killed thousands of Venezuelans in recent hours at Maracay (Central) Hospital, and that it was unknown whether Ebola was the virus involved." Maduro claimed the reports intended to cause "panic or psychological terror." Further, he said he had instructed the solicitor general to prepare international "legal actions" against the media outlets involved.

Gov. Jerry Brown has handed California cities some sought-after tools for controlling a massage industry boom. Cities and police officers have complained about a proliferation of massage parlors in recent years, saying the culprit was a 2008 law giving the nonprofit California Massage Therapy Council overriding authority for overseeing massage parlors. The issue was a priority for the League of California Cities. Brown announced on Thursday that he had signed Assembly Bill 1147, which restores some power to local jurisdictions – notably granting them land-use powers making it easier to shut down or restrict the number of massage establishments.

The informal rate of the US dollar hit a new historic peek on Wednesday in Argentina, breaking the 15 pesos barrier and closing at 15.10 pesos, pushed by rate speculation, and following yesterday’s sharp 25-cents climb. Economy minister Axel Kicillof blamed the ´holdouts´ and the US embassy for the latest surge. The stock exchange rate, that was the main reason for the “blue” dollar skyrocketing on Tuesday, fell back today to 13.63 pesos. Meanwhile, the blue-chip swap rate was up seven cents and closed at 13.49 pesos. Meanwhile, the US dollar climbed one cent to 8.43 pesos in Buenos Aires City

The United Nations Climate Summit will begin in New York this Tuesday, but environmental activists didn’t wait. All day Sunday, they filled the streets of Manhattan for a march that featured Al Gore, New York City mayor Bill de Blasio, and various Hollywood actors. But they certainly didn’t act like a movement that was winning. There was a tone of fatalism in the comments of many with whom I spoke; they despair that the kind of radical change they advocate probably won’t result from the normal democratic process. It’s no surprise then that the rhetoric of climate-change activists has become increasingly

He was a leading figure in one of the biggest climate change marches to date. But it seems Robert F Kennedy Jr was not so forthcoming when it came to questions about his own carbon footprint. Confronted by a reporter asking if he would give up his phone and car, the environmental lawyer became visibly irate before grabbing the microphone and accusing her of ´destroying democracy´ as a member of the press. The interview in New York yesterday afternoon started with a conversation about the number of flyers produced for the event, which Kennedy Jr claimed was necessary to garner ´people power´.

Previously unpublished correspondence between Hillary Clinton and the late left-wing organizer Saul Alinsky reveal new details about her relationship with the controversial Chicago activist and shed light on her early ideological development. Clinton met with Alinsky several times in 1968 while writing a Wellesley college thesis about his theory of community organizing. Clinton’s relationship with Alinsky, and her support for his philosophy, continued for several years after she entered Yale law school in 1969, two letters obtained by the Washington Free Beacon show. Although Emanuel claims that *he* doesn´t want to live past the age of 75, the article itself could have been a listicle titled, "Top 15 Reasons No One Over 75 Should Receive Healthcare." Emanuel even includes a monstrous but brightly colored graph that is meant to tell anyone over 75 that their "last contribution" to society likely occurred more than a decade ago. Good God. It was once said, “religion is designed to comfort the afflicted and to afflict the comfortable.” Jesus’ parables – short stories with moral lessons – were likewise designed to afflict, to draw us in but leave us uncomfortable. These teachings can be read as being about divine love and salvation, sure. But, their first listeners – first century Jews in Galilee and Judea – heard much more challenging messages. Only when we hear the parables as Jesus’ own audience did can we fully experience their power and find ourselves surprised and challenged today. Here are four examples of Jesus’ teachings that everybody gets wrong: 1.

Gonzalez had also drawn the attention of authorities at least twice a few weeks ago — once in Virginia, when he was found with a sniper rifle, a sawed-off shotgun, and a map with

Lois Lerner says she is no Jeffrey Dahmer. The former Internal Revenue Service official referenced the infamous cannibalistic serial killer as she broke her silence for the first time about last year’s IRS scandal. Lerner told the website Politico that she has been the recipient of threats and hate mail, describing how one person called her “the worst person ever in the United States.” “I just thought, ‘Boy, worse than Jeffrey Dahmer?’” Lerner quipped. Lerner, who led the tax-exempt division of the IRS, was forced out of the agency after she found herself at the center of the scandal over the agency’s targeting of conservative groups

That’s why all our students should be eligible to join them.” The school has focused on issues with Greek life ever since a woman filed a lawsuit against Wesleyan two years ago
