United Nations peacekeepers stationed on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights buffer zone were fleeing the embattled country on Saturday and heading towards Israeli territory, according to Al Jazeera. The report said UN troops were abandoning their posts following attacks by militant rebels in the area. It was not clear how many UN forces have left their posts or from what nationality they were. The report comes after clashes broke out between a group of Philippine peacekeepers trapped in the Golan Heights and Islamist militants who were surrounding their position. My question is this. Why were the Un Blue Helmets armed? Where is their back up? Were they just stuck out there as targets? There is supposed to be a severe repercussion if you fire on Blue. But, here they are, alone, surrounded, fleeing for their lives. And where do they flee toward? Israel, the country most vilified by the Arab money controlled U.N. All while the Security Council Bigs play golf, attend fund raisers, bicker over a remote island, or chew out pieces of sovereign territory of other nations.

And, let me add; #3, I fully get your drift. Me too!

Say, what´s been going on with Mark Sanford? Funny you should ask! The ex–South Carolina governor and current congressman, Appalachian Trail hiker, and perpetual seeker has written a 2,375-word Facebook post about his latest legal battle with ex-wife Jenny Sanford. Its tone, if not its exact content, will be familiar to anyone who has ever heard a middle-aged man self-righteously complain about what a mean, nasty lady his former spouse is, so feel totally free to ignore it on this beautiful Friday afternoon. Really, the only interesting thing in Sanford´s status update is the news that he has broken off

SAN DIEGO — African-American elementary students in California were chronically truant at nearly four times the rate of all students during the last school year, according to a state report released Friday. The report by the California Attorney General´s office is the first time the data has been broken down according to race and income levels. Officials say such data is needed to address the problem. Poverty and suspensions are contributing factors. Overall, more than 250,000 elementary school students missed 10 percent or more of the 2013-2014 school year or roughly 18 or more school days. Judge Thokozile Masipa has ruled that Olympic athlete Oscar Pistorius did not murder his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp on Valentines´ Day 2013. But she said she would deliver her verdict on a lesser charge, culpable homicide, on Friday. Here is a guide to the judge´s reasoning: Premeditated murder The state argued that Mr Pistorius had had an argument with Ms Steenkamp, after which he deliberately shot her dead. The judge ruled this had not been proved, as there was only circumstantial evidence of an argument - uncorroborated witnesses´ statements. She also dismissed witnesses who said they had heard Ms Steenkamp scream before the shots were fired,

Although few medical experts realize it, part of the population in West Africa is immune to the Ebola virus, according to virologists who specialize in the disease. Assuming they are correct, and if those people can be identified, they could be a great help in fighting the outbreak. Immune persons could safely tend the sick and bury the dead just as smallpox survivors did in the centuries before smallpox vaccine. Also, antibodies could be harvested from their blood to treat new Ebola victims. But many factors remain unclear, including which Africans have antibodies and how much antibody is needed to be protective. The

Qua speech, Barack Obama’s address Wednesday on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria was surprisingly terrible: a disorganized mess, insincere and unconvincing. To appreciate just how bad and bizarre it was, compare the president’s speech announcing a new air campaign in Iraq and Syria to Dwight Eisenhower’s 1958 statement on his decision to intervene in Lebanon with 14,000—14,000!—troops. The statement contains no chest-thumping about America’s leadership in science and medicine. No pivot to the auto industry and medical research. Eisenhower simply explained what had been done, and why.

Rarely has a president faced a greater challenge in establishing his credibility for a new foreign-policy move than Barack Obama did in his nationally televised speech tonight. A CNN poll earlier this week found that just 30 percent of voters thought Obama had presented a clear plan for fighting the Islamic State. While Obama now pledges to ask Congress to train and aid Syrian rebels who would fight the group, voters remember that he backed similar plans in Syria in 2013, when his advisers saw Syrian president Bashar Assad as the major threat. President Obama just announced that he is bringing a counter-terrorism strategy to an insurgency fight. He was at pains to repeat the phrase “counter-terror” four times in a short speech. Noting that ISIL is not a state (partly because the international community thankfully does not recognize it), he declared, “ISIL is a terrorist organization, pure and simple. And it has no vision other than the slaughter of all who stand in its way.” Neither of those sentences, unfortunately, is true. Throughout his presidency, President Obama has emphasized one point while talking about Islamist extremists: They are not practicing Islam, he has said, they are perverting it. He took that a step further Wednesday night. While announcing that he´s expanding the campaign against the Islamic State extremist group into Syria, Obama said flatly that this group, which is trying to install a caliphate in the Middle East, "is not Islamic."
