Uh Oh: Mary Landrieu Doesn´t

Townhall, by Guy Benson

This is…not what embattled "Louisiana" Democrat Sen. Mary Landrieu wanted to read in the Washington Post -- which, as it turns out, is her hometown paper: In Washington, Sen. Mary Landrieu lives in a stately, $2.5 million brick manse she and her husband built on Capitol Hill. Here in Louisiana, however, the Democrat does not have a home of her own. She is registered to vote at a large bungalow in New Orleans that her parents have lived in for many decades, according to a Washington Post review of Landrieu’s federal financial disclosures and local property and voting records. Isn´t residency a requirement to run for office in Congress? This is absurd!

I would like to see this work but I don´t see it happening. The Louisiana statute requires the person to be an inhabitant (not resident), which generally means having it has your domicile. Residency is where someone lives presently. Domicile is in the nature of living in France but maintaining your domicile here. And most states make an exception, like the military ... and congressman, whose jobs require them to be elsewhere, like DC. She was born there, claims it as her domicile, is registered to vote there, doesn´t claim another place as her domicile, campaigns there, and otherwise maintains contact there. I just don´t see it happening but it is good for putting her on the defense; that helps.

I´m with #7. Switching it around, anyone renting an apartment is not allowed to vote nor hold elected office.

As long as they keep their ability to vote in Louisiana, there shouldn´t be a problem.

No, you don´t need to own a home in your electoral district, you have to be a resident. And that can be ANYTHING because the congressional rules stipulate specifically that whatever abode you dwell in DC is by rule NOT your primary residence.
While George H.W. Bush was first Vice President and then Presidence his official residence was a mailing address and an occasionally occupied hotel room in Houston.

INDIANOLA, Iowa — It was a preview of coming distractions. When Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton decided to return to the state where her presidential ambitions first came undone six years ago, the idea was that they would remind Democratic activists about the importance of the midterm elections and honor their host, Senator Tom Harkin, Democrat of Iowa, who is retiring from Congress and held his final steak fry fund-raiser here Sunday. And that was what transpired, in part, on a sun-splashed day on a balloon field here, just south of Des Moines. But as is often the case wherever

Former President Bill Clinton railed against Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Sunday and framed the midterm elections as more broadly about defining “the terms in which we will relate to each other and relate to the rest of the world.” Speaking at Sen. Tom Harkin’s (D-Iowa) annual steak fry fundraiser, Clinton said while much had improved in America, one problem still prevailed: “We don’t want to be around anyone that disagrees with us.” "We’ve got to pull this country together to push this country forward,” he went on to declare. Speaking directly after Hillary Clinton, the former president´s

Sioux City, Iowa -In a campaign so far defined by hogs and chickens, the race for the open Iowa Senate seat that most expected to fall to Democrats is now perhaps the closest in the country. And with the control of the Senate majority at stake in the upcoming election, Democrats are dispatching their biggest stars to help, starting Sunday with Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton. Democratic candidate Rep. Bruce Braley, a four-term congressman, was once the front-runner to succeed Democratic powerhouse Sen. Tom Harkin. But Braley has spent the last few weeks trying to regain the upper hand after some

Merkel made her pledge to thousands at a landmark rally protesting a rise in anti-Semitism that authorities and Jewish leaders blame mainly on Muslim extremists and young immigrants, saying anyone who attacks Jews is attacking all of Germany. His cynical grandstanding was rightly condemned — but he was hardly alone. Cruz agreed to speak to this group, which included bishops of the Catholic and Orthodox Churches, ostensibly out of solidarity, but took the occasion to antagonize them over their insufficient praise for Israel, then smeared them as anti-Semites before dropping the mic. Voter turnout during last month´s primary races was a little too good in some counties, Arizona elections officials said Friday. Some precincts in northern Arizona tallied more ballots cast than there are registered voters, the Arizona Capitol Times reported. According to officials, errors made by poll workers and elections officials in Apache and Navajo counties led to the miscalculations. Initial reports from some precincts showed a turnout of anywhere from 200 to 400 percent. In Apache County, the Puerco West precinct reportedly had 100 votes cast, but only 23 voters are registered there. The voter turnout added up to 434
