A New American Oil Bonanza
New York Times, by Clifford Krauss

Original Article

Posted By:MDMuskrat, 8/29/2014 12:10:21 PM

THREE RIVERS, Tex. — Whenever overseas turmoil has pushed energy prices higher in the past, John and Beth Hughes have curbed their driving by eating at home more and shopping locally. (snip) “We were able to take a day-cation because of the lower gas prices,” said Ms. Hughes. The reason for the improved economics of road travel can be found 10,000 feet below the ground here, where the South Texas Eagle Ford shale is providing more than a million new barrels of oil supplies to the world market every day. United States refinery production in recent weeks reached record highs and left supply depots flush, cushioning the impact of all the instability surrounding traditional global oil fields.

We are awash in oil. The scientists from the 1960´s that said we would run out of oil in 2000 were 100% wrong. Why do we still have CAFE standards for cars and trucks? The only reason why Congress passed CAFE standards was to save oil. Now, all the cafe standards do is give passengers less protection, and more costly repair bills, along with higher insurance rates. It is time for Congress to repeal the CAFE standards (next year when we have more rational people in charge of Congress).

#1: Go back and read this one. It´s all positive. And as near as I can tell, the author is not a guest contributor. Also, since our next President will be from Texas (thank God) it is useful to stay abreast of our real (i.e., non-green) energy ascendancy.

Is the New York Times just not discovering the Eagle Ford? Guess there still is little of importance west of the Hudson River. At least as far as the Times is concerned. Welcome to Texas.

Between the Eagle Ford & Permian Basin oil booms in Texas, and including those in North Dakota, Ohio & etc., there simply is no oil nor gas shortage within the USA, not now nor in the future. ...The only thing needed to correct the greenie, ´scientific,´ stumbling block & the resulting bogus policies is for the voters to elect principled representatives who will stand for scientific facts NOT follies.

As an added bonus, there has been a discovery of much more oil a mile under the Eagle Ford oil. It is possibly 10 times as much oil 3 miles deep. (Eagle Ford is 2 miles deep).

How Joni Ernst Became a Contender

How did Iowa state senator Joni Ernst become a threat to Harry Reid’s Democratic majority in the U.S. Senate? “The Democrats have thrown everything but the kitchen sink at Ms. Ernst, and at the best this race is a tie, it’s still a pure toss-up in what should be a marginally Democrat environment in Iowa,” a GOP pollster told NRO. This race was not supposed to challenge Democrats or drain their resources. “I was confident Rep. Braley would win the day he announced,” state Democratic-party chairman Tyler Olsen said in February, “and I’m only getting more confident every day.”

If a jihadist were going around the United States committing random murders, you might think it would be a significant news story. But apparently not: until this morning, I had never heard of Ali Muhammad Brown, a “devout Muslim” who murdered at least four random American men as an act of Islamic jihad. The story has actually been around for a while; this article from a local paper in New Jersey is dated August 21, and the murders occurred well before then: Accused killer says Livingston teen’s murder was ‘vengeance’ against U.S.:

Senator Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.), the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee, delivered a speech on the Senate floor Wednesday evening about Senate Democrats’ refusal to support legislation to block the president’s proposed executive actions on immigration policy, and the interests supporting amnesty. Following is an adapted version of his remarks.
Earlier this week I spoke about the president’s promise that he would issue an executive amnesty to 5 or 6 million people. The planned amnesty would include work permits, photo IDs, and Social Security numbers for millions of people who illegally entered the U.S., illegally overstayed their visas, or defrauded U.S. immigration authorities. The Senate Democratic conference has supported and enabled the president’s unlawful actions and blocked every effort to stop them. Qua speech, Barack Obama’s address Wednesday on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria was surprisingly terrible: a disorganized mess, insincere and unconvincing. To appreciate just how bad and bizarre it was, compare the president’s speech announcing a new air campaign in Iraq and Syria to Dwight Eisenhower’s 1958 statement on his decision to intervene in Lebanon with 14,000—14,000!—troops. The statement contains no chest-thumping about America’s leadership in science and medicine. No pivot to the auto industry and medical research. Rarely has a president faced a greater challenge in establishing his credibility for a new foreign-policy move than Barack Obama did in his nationally televised speech tonight. A CNN poll earlier this week found that just 30 percent of voters thought Obama had presented a clear plan for fighting the Islamic State. President Obama just announced that he is bringing a counter-terrorism strategy to an insurgency fight. He was at pains to repeat the phrase “counter-terror” four times in a short speech. Noting that ISIL is not a state (partly because the international community thankfully does not recognize it), he declared, “ISIL is a terrorist organization, pure and simple. And it has no vision other than the slaughter of all who stand in its way.” Neither of those sentences, unfortunately, is true. Throughout his presidency, President Obama has emphasized one point while talking about Islamist extremists: They are not practicing Islam, he has said, they are perverting it.
