Will Harry Reid Run?
Politico, by Jon Ralston

Original Article

Forty years ago, a relatively unknown youngster had fought his way to a slight advantage over former Nevada Gov. Paul Laxalt. But the challenger felt he needed a coup de grâce, so he raised questions about Laxalt´s family finances, wondering about the provenance and propriety of certain funds. Laxalt responded by putting his sister out front to explain how she had lived her life with a vow of poverty: She was a nun. The outrage was palpable; Laxalt was elected by 624 votes. The loser in that 1974 race was 34-year-old Harry Reid, whose putative killer instinct had killed the messenger (i.e. himself),

Why isn´t someone now - and for the past many years - raising questions about Dingy´s finances. Information is out there. I´ve seen it.

No, dingy Harry will take the millions and millions he has scammed and amble away. It is all about the money after all, and he knows his power is about to dissipate after the election.

If he is having trouble finishing sentences now, he will be much worse in two years.
I am about his age and have no problems debating much younger people and I an certainty no linguistic genius.
Once things start to go they go relatively fast. The fact that he has long term memory, means nothing. Even people with sever dementia retain their long term memory.
I do not wish problems on him, but I do not pray for his health either.

Republican Texas Sen. Ted Cruz found Saturday Night Live’s portrayal of Sarah Palin “wickedly funny” and thought it had a “profoundly powerful” effect on how people view the then-vice presidential candidate. “Who can forget Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, Al Gore? Who can forget in 2008 Saturday Night Live’s wickedly funny characterization of the Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin? It was wickedly funny and also had a profoundly powerful effect on people’s perception of Sarah Palin, a friend of mine.” Cruz’s remarks on Monday were surrounding the debate over adding a constitutional amendment to the Constitution response to the Supreme Court’s most

The Baltimore Raven was indefinitely suspended but even one of his teammates suited up after punching a girlfriend in the neck. So much for zero tolerance. After the first video of Ray Rice dragging his unconscious fiancée out of an elevator surfaced in July, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended him for a mere two games. An apparent knockout punch was punished with a slap on the wrist, which Goodell later acknowledged wasn’t enough. “I take responsibility both for the decision and for ensuring that our actions in the future properly reflect our values,” Goodell wrote in August. “I didn’t get it right.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney spoke to House Republicans and did not hold back. The former VP blamed Obama’s pro-Muslim Brotherhood policies on the rise of Hamas, ISIS and other extremists in the Middle East. Mediaite reported: In a closed-door meeting with the House Republicans, former Vice President Dick Cheney placed the blame for ISIS, Hamas, and the multiple Islamist groups proliferating in the Middle East, on the shoulders of Barack Obama. During the meeting, which was confirmed to the Daily Beast‘s Ben Jacobs by multiple congressmen, Cheney accused Obama of “facilitating the Muslim Brotherhood” with his policies. According to Rep. As Congress returns to Washington this week for the few remaining legislative days before the midterm elections, lawmakers will compare notes on what they heard and saw back home. They will also share impressions they gleaned about what will happen on Nov. 4. Democrats´ assessments will be particularly enlightening, and my guess is that those reports will be about as discouraging as they can get. Historically, midterm elections are generally referenda on the incumbent president. President Obama´s latest overall approval ratings are not far above his lowest yet. Public attitudes toward the Affordable Care Act have not noticeably improved. The extent

As the United Nations begins a year-long celebration of the 70th anniversary of its 1945 founding, it is entirely appropriate that we reassess what the UN actually does. The fuzzy notion of continuing World War II’s winning coalition (itself called “the United Nations”) to prevent future wars disappeared long ago. The UN now has an extensive real-world record to evaluate, rather than merely its founders’ aspirations. Some drastic changes are clearly in order. The UN system today is a huge operation, defying orderly analysis, which is precisely one of its biggest problems. In many often-unknown or overlooked UN specialized agencies and programs,

President Obama reportedly is prepared to expand airstrikes against the Islamic State into Syria and broaden the campaign against the group in Iraq, according to published reports ahead of a prime-time address to the nation in which the president will be expected to lay out an expanded military and political strategy to confront the militants who seized large swathes of territory over the summer. The New York Times, citing a senior administration official, reported that the president was willing to order airstrikes against the militants, also known as ISIS, inside Syrian territory. One of the most famous tragedies of the Northwest Passage sea route around the top of North America might have finally been solved. British sailor John Franklin left England with two ships in 1845 in an ill-fated attempt to sail the Northwest Passage. Stuck in the ice of the Canadian Arctic, all 129 crew members perished in 1846. Modern explorers have succeeded where Franklin failed, but Canadians never stopped hoping they would find the lost ships of the Franklin Expedition. On Tuesday, Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced that one of the two ships was found. "I am delighted to announce that this year´s

The top Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee is set Tuesday to offer President Obama a nearly blank check for waging war against ISIS everywhere in the world. The irony is that Obama isn’t asking Congress for formal authorization. Sen. James Inhofe will introduce a formal congressional authorization Tuesday for the use of American military force against ISIS using any means, including using boots on the ground, and in any country, including Syria.

While the current Rothenberg Political Report ratings don’t show it, I am now expecting a substantial Republican Senate wave in November, with a net gain of at least seven seats. But I wouldn’t be shocked by a larger gain. Rothenberg Political Report ratings reflect both where a race stands and, more importantly, where it is likely headed on Election Day. Since early polls rarely reflect the eventual November environment, either in terms of the candidates’ name recognition and resources or of the election’s dynamic, there is often a gap between how I categorize each race (my ratings) and what I privately assume

Arguments for a universal basic income (UBI) — in which everyone without exception would receive an equal stipend — have flourished in policy-centric areas of the internet, including The Week. Advocates of UBI see it as a blunter, more effective means of reducing poverty and shrinking the inequality gap. But even if UBI proponents are right on the merits, Tyler Cowen argues that the politics of the issue are not favorable. Under
