America is poised to ask Britain to support air strikes against jihadi positions in northern Iraq, it was reported last night. The White House believes the UK and Australia would be willing to join in such an air campaign, according to the New York Times. And it claimed officials are on the point of asking the Prime Minister--as well as leaders of a string of other countries including Qatar, Jordan, Turkey and Australia--about it. However, Downing Street sources said yesterday no request from the Obama administration had yet been made, and that UK involvement in air strikes would need ‘a

Obama, having spent the last 6 years developing close personal relationships with America´s allies, should have no trouble securing political cover for what is essentially a re-entry into hostilities which were caused in a large part by America´s hasty and ill conceived retreat.

Right?

Should have thought about something like this when sending back the Churchill bust, giving QE the wrong kind of tapes, ditching the Thatcher funeral, chewing gum at Normandy, etc., etc., etc.

Note the wording: "Help us"? How about going ahead and bombing the snot out of ISIS right now and not waiting?

"...urge Britain". How about "ask Britain"? You´re not very well-liked right now, Dude. You can´t afford to "urge", you need to ask politely, and just maybe Britian will forget your absolutely abominable behavior for the last six years plus.

"poised"? Obama is always "poised" or "considering" or "mulling". How about not waiting for a strategy to blame someone else if it goes south? How about "deciding" right now, Dude? How about manning up?

Geez, what a wump.

In the first place, who would trust this fickle Golfer? He has demonstrated several negative attributes on the global stage of diplomatic relations. His Secretary of State has shown himself to be absolutely incapable of being trusted with secrets or handling himself with sensitive negotiation matters. Øbama will be exceptionally slow to make any decisions, especially the tough ones. He will not be the "go-to" guy, he will delegate responsibility to lackey who he will not give power to deal with crisis. My Goodness! What kind of fools does he actually believe the so-called "Allies" are?

1. Shouldn´t Obama be asking Congress for authorization to go to war with ISIS? Asking allies follows, not replaces the Constitutionally required approval of Congress. Obama said as much in 2008.

2. Since Obama is the "smartest president ever, almost godlike", shouldn´t he be explaining to us what his objectives are with this war, how much it will cost, how long it will last and how we will measure its success/failure? And, as he repeatedly attacked Bush, how he intends to pay for it?? Will Obama reverse layoffs of captains and majors? Will he stop slashing the size of our Army and Navy? Questions without answers.

3. Due to its massive social spending, the UK´s military has been slashed, so it struggles to have even a ceremonial flyover or parade. Will not be of much help in Iraq and Syria. Which countries will contribute more than a salute as we send our young people out to fight the head choppers?

But we are allies of the rebels and send aid and armaments to overthrow Assad. Jihadis are not Regular Army (enlistment, uniforms) but could be any nationality, any social class, mingling easily in any group of people. How do you bomb them, Pres O? Send in my Flying Monkeys (drones) and bomb poor people-ruin their food supply, water, hospitals.

Patricia Mora, a research professor in coastal ecology and fisheries science at the National Institute of Technology in Mexico, has been studying the impact of wind turbines in the Tehuantepec Isthmus in southern Mexico, an environmentally sensitive region which has the highest concentration of wind farms in Latin America. The turbines, she says in an interview with Truthout, have had a disastrous effect on local flora and

Eric Frein, one of the FBI´s most wanted and the man authorities say killed a Pennsylvania state trooper last week, may soon be apprehended. For a second night, authorities on Friday closed roads near a home where a suspect in the ambush killing of a Pennsylvania State Police trooper recently lived with his parents, and this time gunfire was reported in the area. The shots were fired in the area around 6:40 p.m. Friday, a Monroe County 911 dispatcher said. State police told residents in the townships of Price and Barrett to stay inside and asked others not to travel to the area

The failed Scottish vote to pull out from the United Kingdom stirred secessionist hopes for some in the United States, where almost a quarter of people are open to their states leaving the union, a new Reuters/Ipsos poll found. Some 23.9 percent of Americans polled from August 23 through September 16 said they strongly supported or tended to support the idea of their state breaking away, while 53.3 percent of the 8,952 respondents strongly opposed or tended to oppose the notion. The urge to sever ties with Washington cuts across party lines and regions, though Republicans and residents of rural Western

The bipartisan bill, which declares Israel to be a “major strategic partner,” was authored by Senators Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Roy Blunt (R-MO) and had 81 co-sponsors. [Snip] Besides generally elevating the status of the U.S.-Israel relationship, the bill expands the Jewish state’s trade status to expedite export licensing, increases cooperation on energy and other technologies, maintains Israel’s qualitative military edge in the Middle East, and increases U.S. weapons stockpiles in Israel as well as Israeli access to them.

David Cameron this morning skewered Labour leader Ed Miliband with a pledge to introduce ´English votes for English laws´ after Scotland rejected independence. The Prime Minister said Scotland had had its say and it was now time to listen to the ´millions of voices of England´ by banning Scottish MPs voting on English-only laws. [Snip] Mr Miliband ducked the issue in his first response to the ´No´ referendum victory this morning--only declaring that he supported ´devolution´ in England. But Labour MPs are split on the issue, in a stand-off which threatens to derail the Government´s timetable for devolving further powers

Alex Salmond’s dream of independence has been shattered after Scotland voted to stay part of the United Kingdom. Scotland today rejected independence and voted to remain part of the United Kingdom at the end of the most intense political campaign the country has ever seen. The silent majority finally raised its voice on a tense yet utterly compelling night of political history. During a referendum that attracted record numbers of voters and was hailed as a triumph of democracy, the people voted to maintain the 307-year Union. Scotland has voted against independence. Here’s a quick look at what happens--and doesn’t happen--now: The Union stands. That is all. A political union that has lasted for 307 years continues. Scotland remains part of the United Kingdom. Border posts are not thrown up in the Cheviots. Britain’s nuclear-armed submarines remain based in Scotland. The pound, though it may wobble, does not tumble on currency markets. Billions of pounds invested in Scottish banks mostly stays put. As do the banks. The biggest constitutional crisis in British history does not happen. Alex Salmond has some tricky questions to answer.
