Mystery of how rocks move across
Death Valley lake bed solved

Los Angeles Times, by Louis Sahagun

Original Article

The cracking sounds were ferocious. An ankle-deep, frozen lake in Death Valley National Park was breaking apart under sunny skies. As cousins Richard Norris and James Norris watched, a light wind began moving huge floes of ice across the surface of the water and into rocks weighing up to 200 pounds. Propelled by the ice masses, the rocks began to slide across the slick, muddy bottom of the normally dry lake bed, known as the Racetrack playa. (Snip) Rocks of various heft – some weighing 600 pounds or more – leave trails that wiggle like snakes or form complete loops or even

You know, I really don´t want to know how "magic" is done. I did not really want to know how the rocks moved. I love a good "unknown" story. Well, this one is now gone forever. Too bad. I hope they never find out the Loch Ness Monster is just a big seal or a drifting log, and that Big Foot is really just a bear after all. Keep me in the dark. I´ll try not to read those "news" items when they come up. But, my curiosity defeats me every time.

Their photos last Dec. 21 provided the final evidence in solving a mystery of the Racetrack Playa

Now the mystery is WHERE ARE these photos? I looked high and low in this article and didn´t see anything that looked like what they described.

This is odd: I read this story over a year, perhaps two years ago. I not sure the copy is the same, but the pictures certainly are.

I can´t imagine it being this slow of a news day.

That mystery is solved regularly. At about two year intervals.
Possibly they are right, someone surely will be sooner or later.

Studying for a PhD in engineering at one of the world’s leading universities, she might not seem like a prime candidate to enter into a polygamous marriage. But that is exactly what Nabilah Phillips has done, dropping out of Cambridge to become one of three women married to businessman and charity worker Hasan Phillips, 32. And yesterday it emerged that Nabilah, 35, is among thousands of Muslim women entering into such relationships, illegal in the UK but allowed under Sharia law, which permits men to have four wives. A new documentary, The Men with Many Wives, exposes the rise in

Thousands of people have attempted suicide while on an NHS waiting list for psychological treatment, according to a comprehensive new study of mental health services in England. In the latest evidence of a hidden mental health crisis, a coalition of leading charities and medical professionals report that one in 10 patients are waiting for more than a year just to be assessed for treatment, and one in six made an attempt on their life while on a waiting list. GPs report a “huge rise” in the number of mental health conditions, which has coincided with cuts to mental health services

The EPA and environmental groups are exceptionally close for a government agency and lobby groups, with a revolving door and pressure from the groups often shaping EPA’s policies, according to a new report from a conservative watchdog group based on emails obtained in a yearslong battle with the agency. The report, which details what the Energy & Environment Legal Institute terms “collusion” between the Environmental Protection Agency and eco-friendly groups, is also a study in the way E&E used open records laws to force transparency on a secretive agency. The American who coordinates the Islamic State’s online propaganda efforts was caught on tape by the FBI in 2006 plotting “peanut butter-and-jelly sandwiches” from “culinary school” — code for terrorist attacks and training camps. The phone and online conversations give a chilling look inside the head of a homegrown terrorist. The CIA says at least 2,000 of the estimated 31,500 jihadists the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria has recruited are from America and other Western nations. Ahmad Abousamra, the ISIS recruiter-propagandist who sits on the FBI’s most-wanted list, communicated with a cell of jihadists in the Boston area.

There’s a lot of competition for Barack Obama’s biggest lie. The man who could assure the American public with a straight face over thirty times that they could keep their doctor under his health plan, when he knew that to be completely false, is one hellluva fibber. But execrable as that serial prevarication may have been, it doesn’t hold a proverbial candle to his most recent whopper — that the Islamic State is not Islamic — not to mention its corollary, or perhaps subsidiary lie, that real religions do not indulge in murder. Is a mutiny happening around President Obama? It appears possible that the president may not have made two of his most recent decisions with complete free will. The announcement that he would delay his immigration initiative until after the election and his formal announcement that the United States would take military action against the Islamic State could have been coerced. Maybe Democratic leaders in Congress and a few members of the Obama team have had it. Could it be that, after President Obama briefed Democrats in Congress on the immigration plan, they balked? Maybe the president was told that, if he
