Europe´s Slow Surrender to Intolerance
The Atlantic, by Jeffrey Goldberg

Original Article

Posted By:MDMuskrat, 8/27/2014 2:48:25 PM

On the one hand, it is completely unsurprising that Europe has become a swamp of anti-Jewish hostility. It is, after all, Europe. Anti-Jewish hostility has been its metier for centuries. (Yes, the locus of much anti-Jewish activity today is within Europe’s large Muslim-immigrant population; but the young men who threaten their Jewish neighbors draw on the language and traditions of European anti-Semitism as much as they do on Muslim modes of anti-Semitic thought.) On the other hand, the intensity, and velocity, of anti-Jewish invective—and actual anti-Jewish thuggery—has surprised even Eurocynics such as myself.

Comments:
Thank God you´re not being abused like a Christian in the Middle East...or a Jew anywhere in the world.

In an unexpected discovery, hundreds of gas plumes bubbling up from the seafloor were spotted during a sweeping survey of the U.S. Atlantic Coast. Even though ocean explorers have yet to test the gas, the bubbles are almost certainly methane, researchers report today (Aug. 24) in the journal Nature Geoscience. "We don´t know of any explanation that fits as well as methane," said lead study author Adam Skarke, a geologist at Mississippi State University in Mississippi State.

What do you want to be? A jihadist, or to execute a martyrdom operation?"  In the "caliphate" recently proclaimed by jihadists in Syria and Iraq, even young children are indoctrinated, and Sharia law is backed by the gun, according to a gripping documentary offering one of the first glimpses of life in Raqqa, power base of the so-called Islamic State (IS). Part 1 of a five-episode series, The Islamic State, filmed by Anglo-Palestinian journalist Medyan Dairieh was released Thursday by New York-based Vice News. The tone is set early: "Sharia can only be established with weapons," an IS fighter explains

Yesterday, in response to the news that jihadi savages had killed an American journalist on YouTube, the Obama administration revealed that there had been a special forces operation that attempted and failed to rescue James Foley. For the life of me, I can´t figure out why this was necessary information to reveal, beyond the fact that it was a cheap way of convincing the American people that Obama had been concerned about Foley´s plight. Providing political cover for the president so he can get back to hitting the links even as the personification of evil is about to seize control

Americans of Middle Eastern and North African descent, sometimes abbreviated as “MENA,” have a problem: they are white. In today’s world, that is a bad thing, as Pew explains: [F]or the census, since the beginning of the last century, the MENA community has been lumped into the “white” category. (snip) What’s more, some argue, being classified as “white” prohibits the MENA community from taking advantage of the benefits that come with minority status—including local, state and federal programs that give a leg up to minority-owned businesses in awarding government contracts. This brings a whole new meaning to “white flight”!

A grass roots group is running some terrific pro-fracking ads in Colorado. They feature a Middle Eastern sheik and a Russian oligarch pleading with Coloradans to help them stay rich by suppressing the production of American energy. They are funny and true, and therefore highly effective. (snip) Best of all, the ads are accompanied by street art. We have written before about the fact that conservative, anti-Obama street art has been popping up around the country. Democrat Michelle Nunn is running ahead of David Perdue in the race for the U.S. Senate in Georgia. The WSB-TV poll found that Mrs. Nunn has 47 percent to 40 percent edge over Mr. Perdue. The libertarian candidate, Amanda Swafford, received 3 percent, and 10 percent of the respondents were undecided. The winner of the race will replace retiring Sen. Saxby Chambliss. Mrs. Nunn, the daughter of former Georgia Sen. Sam Nunn, is seen as one of Democrats best bets to flip control of a GOP-held seat. Republicans need to flip six seats to win back the Senate.

American black people are being lied to and the lies destroy them. They are being lied to by corrupt people like Attorney General Eric Holder and Al Sharpton Jr. and Jesse Jackson and the leftists in our news media. They are being told that their poverty is due to prejudice and that the police are targeting them out of bigotry. They are being told that the dreadful existence of slum life grew out of slavery and is being perpetuated by hatred. None of this is true. Poor black people are poor because they have no family structure and get little education.

When a federal appeals court ruled last month that a seemingly arcane wording flaw in the Affordable Care Act should invalidate a central part of the law, many of those who drafted the statute five years ago reacted with shock and anger. In 2009, they had spent months piecing together a compromise that sought to create a national system of subsidized insurance — but one run by the states. Now, they fear their work could be undone by what some call a "drafting error" and others portray as a political miscalculation. The judges from the U.S. Court of Appeals for

Amid the hysteria over the shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., it might be lost that most black and white Americans believe they’re not out to get each other. A new Pew Research survey shows that 75 percent of whites and 64 percent of blacks say their groups get along together “pretty well” if not “very well.” It’s a bleaker view for Hispanics, 53 percent of whom say the same. Ferguson fell into the national media spotlight on Aug. 9 when Brown, who was unarmed and black,” was shot dead by Darren Wilson, a white police officer. A St. Louis grand jury is currently deliberating whether to charge Wilson of a crime.

For many students, the unwelcome return to school is often sweetened with a shopping trip for school supplies and new clothes. Not anymore. As college, high school and grade school students begin returning to classes, the Environmental Protection Agency is urging students to use recycled material, even garbage, for their supplies and to shop at thrift stores for “retro fashions.” And don’t even think about taking more than one napkin or salt packet in the lunch line. “Buy smart!
