The Left’s Ridiculous
Burger King Freakout

Federalist, by David Harsanyi

Original Article

Burger King plans to merge with Canuck coffee-and-doughnut chain Tim Hortons and base the company’s headquarters in Canada where it will enjoy the kind of reasonable corporate tax structure that Democrats continue to obstruct here in the United States. And the move has provoked a fresh round of moral panic, faux patriotism and confusion. (Snip for graphic) It’s doubtful there will be much of a real backlash despite much wishful thinking. Most obviously, the majority of fast food customers are probably less inclined than the editors of the New Republic or the petitioners of MoveOn.org to mistake high tax rates

The Dems sound like some retarded rapist whining because his victim cut his favorite rope, damaged the inside of his car trunk and left him sadistically frustrated. And the cost of all that duct tape....who will pay him for that?

Upon further investigation, it appears that Burger King is actually owned by a Brazilian group called 3G Capital. They also own Heinz.
Offices are in NYC and Rio.

I´m all for Burger King or any other business doing whatever it can to save on corporate taxes. I have, however, been boycotting the company for several months, though not for this reason. It was that insane "Gayburger" or "Rainbow Burger" or whatever they called it, that they were promoting in San Francisco earlier this year.

GOP Winning Midterm Intensity

Even the most casual sports watcher knows that winning sometimes comes down to which team wants it more. And by that measure, six weeks away from the elections in November, Republicans are dominating the midterm game. A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Annenberg poll shows that 54 percent of Republicans say they’re highly interested in the upcoming elections, compared to 44 percent of Democrats who say the same. Another way to look at the GOP intensity advantage: Democrats hold a four-point lead on the generic ballot, 46 percent to 42 percent. But among high-interest voters, Republicans have the edge,

Gifu, Japan -- Police said Sunday that at least 30 people have been discovered in a state of "cardiac arrest" on a Japanese volcano that started erupting a day earlier. The description of the people´s condition means they were found without a pulse and weren´t breathing but hadn´t yet been declared dead by a doctor. Rescue teams had begun searching Sunday for dozens of climbers who were caught by the sudden eruption of Mount Ontake. The volcano in central Japan unleashed a huge cloud of ash late Saturday morning that billowed down the mountainside and engulfed hikers in its path.

LOCRI, Italy -- First Italy fought its mafia mobsters by confiscating their wealth. Now judges are taking away something more precious: their sons. Riccardo Cordi´, a shy 18-year-old scion of one of Italy´s most notorious mob families, is a pioneer in a new strategy to fight the mafia by exiling crime clan sons from their homes and families. Riccardo is the first of about 20 sons sent into a kind of rehab away from the mob by juvenile courts in the southern region of Calabria, home to the dangerous `ndrangheta syndicate. FERGUSON, Mo.-- A Ferguson police officer was shot in the arm Saturday night after encountering two men at a community center who ran from him and then opened fire during a foot chase, authorities said. St. Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said at a media briefing early Sunday that the officer approached the men around 9:10 p.m. because the community center was closed. As the officer approached, the men ran away. When the officer gave chase, "one of the men turned and shot," Belmar said. The officer was shot in the arm and is expected to survive, he said.

Republicans are hoarding money in a key race that could determine control of the Senate, leaving themselves vulnerable to being outgunned by Democrats ahead of Election Day. But it could be worth it. Top Republican strategists are quietly preparing to pour money into Louisiana after November, even reserving hotel rooms and millions of dollars’ worth of ad time. If Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu doesn’t win more than half the vote in the general election, she would very likely be forced into a one-on-one runoff with Republican Rep. Bill Cassidy. The situation is similar in neighboring Georgia, where campaigns for both

We’re being had. Again. For six years, President Obama has endeavored to will the country into accepting two pillars of his alternative national-security reality. First, he claims to have dealt decisively with the terrorist threat, rendering it a disparate series of ragtag jayvees. Second, he asserts that the threat is unrelated to Islam, which is innately peaceful, moderate, and opposed to the wanton “violent extremists” who purport to act in its name. Now, the president has been compelled to act against a jihad that has neither ended nor been “decimated.” The jihad, in fact, has inevitably intensified under his counterfactual

When the U.S. military strikes, its leaders often choose colorful code names for the operation that sometimes stick in history, like Operation Overlord or Rolling Thunder or Desert Storm. Not this time. The U.S.-led air campaign against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria doesn´t have a name. "I know of no plans at this point to name it," Pentagon spokesman Rear Adm. Political pollsters have a tough job. They have to create formulas to determine if the person they are interviewing is likely to vote, and it is within this calculation that their reputations are made. Typically, those who are likely to vote in an off-year election are pretty set. They are the people who always vote in elections — with some motivated by specific issues. In a wave election, the number of those motivated by specific issues escalates, changing the electoral landscape as the candidates who are beneficiaries of this increased participation sweep to victory. The 2014 election is rapidly looking like something new
